Feeling pain for a character merely means that you have fallen under the creator's spell. How many people out there cry when reading a sad book or smile at a good part in the movie. Feeling affection for a character is what is supposed to happen. (Unless you like start talking to him all the time or something and believing he is real)But feeling pain for them is nothing weird. It just means the creator has done well in his work.
