The "Disney" channel is full of shows about vapid, sneaky, lying children who are materialistic and do everything possible to pull the wool over their parents eyes. i think parents don't even monitor it because Disney has theat kid-friendly reputation. I have personally seen well behaved children act like spoiled snots within minutes of watching an episode of Hannah Montana. A smart parent will boycott that station, and anything with a laugh track.

Disney has a history of propaganda-fabrication for the State (anyone remember Donald Duck and The Nazis?) and is becoming increasingly sexualized towards children. Meaning the media that's released is seducing CHILDREN into becoming more sexual. 7 billion people and counting. The successes of the porn industry and it's moral issues (not the sex, but the woman's issues). People need to reduce reproduction and this obsession with sex (to a more healthy interest in it) and here we have Disney now?

And where there's rich people, there's a poor underclass nearby; Loughman, Campbell, Intercession City, Kissimmee...All those areas have anywhere from 15-20% of the population living below the poverty line, yet here's all these rich people a mere 20 minute drive away. It's shameful.

I believe in the ownership of property, and individual rights. But with rights comes personal responsibility. I think the primary flaw in our capitalist system is not necessarily the profit motive, but in the lack of accountability of the individual shareholders. To treat a corporation (which is property) as a legal person, it is essentially a straw man that takes the heat for the actions of it's share holders, while the share holders go unpunished.

The thing about modern captialism is it reduces the whole world, the whole meaning of life to just buying and selling shit. Isn't it more to life than just buying and selling stuff ? ofcourse, behind most of this are gaint corporations that are hording alot of the the wealth . The richest 1%
It's disturbing and sad that Florida has seen yet another blight on its history by housing a town built by Disney. Sweet Jesus, wasn't Jeb Bush enough of a burden on that poor state?! Disney is highly overrated artistically and more image conscious than anyone or anything I have ever laid eyes on in my life or ever will as long as I live.
Let's face it. Modern capitalism is as totalitarian as the much-loathed communist regimes. In fact it's worse because it has much better technology to spy on people and it uses seduction rather than terror to make people obedient. At least in the Soviet Union people knew what they were dealing with. While here many people think it's in their interest to live like happy sheep.
wooh!! you seem very engaged and against corporations but I think that even if corporations are sometime inhuman since they don't care about others people but only about making profit. They are actually corporations who produces goods for the communities. You shoudn't be so extreme in your reflexion.
You would much rather be terrorized and thrown in the Gulag than be seduced. Even though the jury's out on how effective 'subliminal advertising' is....nevermind that a person's basic civil and political liberties are intact....yes it's totally totalitarian.
@RussianBarbarian - we don't have capitalism, haven't since 1913 with the passing of the private central bank Federal Reserve. we are corporatism. and they want to blame our problems on false capitalism in order to change our country into socialism.
@RussianBarbarian Do you even know what totalitarian means? In capitalism you can boycott anyone (and in true capitalism the government doesn't support any corporation with tax breaks and subsidies).
@FatherTime89 Good question.I may be wrong, but TO ME,its worse cuz it creates monopoly & kills individuality, among other things.Like name brand fashion, for instance.A brand like Gucci can take a plain white t-shirt,slap its name on it & sell it for $200.A less known brand can slap their name on it in the same font/color & its worth crap. And the person who has the Gucci is automatically looked at as a more attractive, suitable mate.
Plus,it puts more value on marketing than makin good products.
Anyone that would even consider living in that horrific Disney monstrosity, let alone actually doing it, has the mind of a child in a brainwashed adult's body (that woman promoting it needs thrashing on the arse with a golf shoe too).
Well it seems that the process of commercialization/dehumanization is complete. Now, we can surrender our identities and move to Celebration, Florida to assume the final prospect of our material culture: the assimilation into a completely artificial environment completely separate from the human experience. This is the future, because we apparently hate ourselves.
Celebration Florida? It is nothing more than a living advertisement for the Disney Corporation--a way of demonstrating the kind of lifestyle that Disney pretends to promote. It is a false-front to hide their real motivation--profit.
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has given corporations the "right" to lie in this manner. To end this charade we need to pass a Constitutional Amendment to abolish "Corporate Personhood" and ban corporations from politics.
The difference is in choice. Slaves were forcefully taken across the ocean to be bought and sold as commodities. They had no say in the matter, they were mere tools owned by their masters. The workers in sweatshops choose to be employed there and the fact that they do it shows that for them there is no better alternative. Are the payment and working conditions horrible by our standards? Possibly, but you would rather take even those few cents they make away from them. The difference is huge.
Whats the point in discussing bullshit labels. We all know that in reality its not a choice. Unless you call a choice between life and death a choice ofc.
The point in this story is that they live in the gutter, so that the shareholders on the other side of the planet can climb a place or two on Forbes.
Some get paid one tenth of a percent of the retail price. Do you understand what im telling you? 1/10 of 1% of the retail price on a product THEY make.
@shine2rust I agree with TheSaltyAdmiral...exploitation is exploitation regardless of the label we give it. The fact that the people working in foreign sweatshops do not have any real alternatives only strengthens the argument that they are NOT free to choose--and that makes them slaves.
@wbaltzley Do you realize that you're both actually agreeing with me in saying that working for nike whatever is the best alternative these people have? Therefore, let them work, if that is how they can provide for themselves, their families. Would you rather the "sweatshops" be closed down and deprive them of even that basic subsistence wage? Would they be better off then?
@wbaltzley Stop buying Nike then. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of the brand since it's too expensive. But let's assume everyone stops buying their s**t. Having no more customers, they close down all their factories and everybody goes home. Is that what you think would be best for those people?
@shine2rust No, I don't think we should "close down all their factories"--rather I think we should create regulations requiring that we treat foreign workers with the same dignity as American workers. Companies should be required to apply the same health and wage standards in their foreign subsidiaries as they do here in the United States.
. I am all for "Free Trade" but I also recognize that we need regulation to ensure "Fair Trade." We need to put everybody on an equal footing.
It's tempting to think we can easily impose rules regulations and restrictions on markets, be they for goods or labour. However, economic realities might not match our good intentions. By saying you would impose rules of conduct to those employing cheap labour you are also implying sanctions if they do not respect (possibly closing them down). Employers that comply will face competition from those that will not.
The extra cost of ensuring whatever conditions you see as "proper" will be paid by who? The greedy owners' bottom line? Most likely it will be by the workers themselves, either through a reduction in their pay (possibly due to the "regulated" shorter hours they would work) or by laying off some of them. The low wages and flexible labour laws are what attract employers in the first place from the rigid and expensive Western countries.
@wbaltzley Basically you would be denying poor nations that competitive advantage by imposing restriction on hiring labour. As living standards increase in these countries (like they did in the West) after years of "exploitation", and workers are less interested in low skilled, low paid jobs (for example Eastern Europe), companies might seek yet again to relocate to other places.
You cannot apply the standards of a country such as the US (which are harmful and restrictive even in the said developed country) to third world nations, which have not gone through the stages of industrialization and development that the US has. The standard of living cannot be artificially boosted, but its future growth CAN be hindered by good intentions.
Hahaha. I bet everybody knows what the Golden Arches logo, the Check and the Apple stand for. :D That's how advertising works. It makes way into your brain and it stays there for the rest of your life. It' s now a part of yourself. That's what succesful companies do. They create unforgettable brands with personality.
AMERICAN REPUBLICAN FASCISM: Nationalism without merit - Constant desire for "rebirth" Military Worship Worship of the ultra rich Corporation & State collaboration - avoiding labour rights Social Darwinism - "Bad things happen to bad people" Inequality is good & necessary Fraudulent Elections Imperialism - Culturally & Militarly Minimal social policies Corporate media manipulation Anti-intellectual Anti-multiculturalism Anti-homosexuality Anti-labor unions Anti-social democracy
It never ceases to amaze me how people lambaste a movie of this sort and say things like, "Liberal fascism" or "left wing zealot" or "Eco Nazi" etc. etc. As if there is a plot to destroy the good people of Monsanto or DOW or Exon. Oh wait, there is. Listen, there is no defense for the behavior of ruthless corporate entities just like there is no defense for ruthless dictatorships or plutocracies or any other oppressive regime. All hail the whistle blowers and freedom fighters!
The problem with your argument is that these companies are not breaking the law, nor are they screwing other people over. So the comparison to dictators is flawed.
@BelieveIt1051 dictators techincally can say they aren't breaking law though right. i mean they make the law and corporations thrive better when they set up factories in dictatorship countries. but that is just my opinion so...
And while I listen to all the corporate commercialism or branding information from the video ... the ads on the page (during my view) are all for Disney Parks and/or Google ... nuff said.
That's because YouTube uses Google ads. Google ads uses keywords of the page content to choose which ads to show. That has nothing to do with this documentary or the people who made it.
The comment I made was tongue in cheek pointing out the irony of the commercialization of ads on the video ... especially ironic was the Disney Parks and/or Google Ads since they are being specifically addressed in the video. I'm well aware that Google ads uses keywords, etc. It was no reflection on the video which is bringing a very important message about the issue and is well done.
Its part of the business strategy. The lady in this movie. Naomi Klein, her book "No Logo" said it was called cannibalization.
Yes the Starbucks shops compete with each other, but they also take business from non - Starbucks coffee houses. The franchise as a whole wins, those at that particular shop take the risk.
Unfortunately, until each individual has the power to open their own shops easily, we'll have to put up with this nonsense.
"The capitalist law proves that something does not make money unless it is right. "
This was a kick in the face. Please, keep questioning things or you'll be jerked around your entire life.
Take some courses in "capitalist law" when you get the chance. The people who wrote the text books you used don't agree with that in every case. Externalities.. the most popular example.
@JoshSitar in high-traffic areas it is not uncommon to put a business location on opposite sides of a given street--so that people going each way can stop without diverting from their normal routine.
Lesser and lesser people dare to talk to strangers if it is not in a corporation controlled environment. It is supposed that we create cultures and cultures are not us, but corporations destroy that detachable relationship. When people leave them, their humanity destroyed and in many occasions people are devastated by their external system after their internal system expanded. A consequence of their lobbyist regime.
spryaing fake snow in the streets in florida? it might not be evil but it sure is fucking wasteful, our fellow human beings live in unspeakable conditions and we spray fake snow for rich uptight white people
So what? What the hell is your problem with freedom? Why can't a town decide to have fake snow in order to attract business so they can earn a living and provide for their families?
And just what the hell is your side's end game? That we ban all advertising and efforts to sell things? That we all have the same kinds of possesions? The same kind clothing, car, house, toilet, lightbulb, etc.?
And what's wrong with branding? What's wrong with production? Nothing. Producing is good!
See this is where the dividing line gets drawn in politics. "What the hell is your problem with freedom?"
Whose freedom? They are making a free choice to do an action, but who is that action affecting? Do the people affected not have freedom? Example: smoking. Conservative argument: "I have the freedom to smoke wherever I want to!"
Sane person argument "And what about the second hand smoke that fills my lungs when you exercise that freedom?" Same goes for pollution.
The freedom of people who want to spray fake snow in the street to attract tourists. THEIR FREEDOM! That's what I was replying to.
And no the conservative argument is NOT that people have the right to smoke wherever they want to. Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins! That's the conservative argument!
Now how about the liberal argument? Your lightbulbs emit a little bit of carbon, so I force you to use toxic bulbs that emit none so that I can feel like I saved the planet!
"Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins"
Sure, but the problem is that many conservatives don't seem to realize the noses they hit. Air quality is not the concern of any one person, but of all of us. And yet corporations perform actions that lower air quality for all of us, then complain that their rights are being infringed when we make regulations for the collective good. We're going to need more than CFL's to get out of the shit-hole that's been dug for us.
Air quality has nothing to do with carbon dioxide, which is a harmless natural gas that plants need to live.
Conservatives aren't against policies that stop REAL pollution, because as I said, their right to dump their garbage ends where my property line begins. But this whole man-made climate change scam is really starting to get out of hand.
It's a hoax. Junk science.
Taxing companies for carbon output is unconstitutional and a violation of their property rights.
@Paladiea You can't. They won't publish anything that goes against the fraud. That's part of the whistleblower e-mails, if you'd bother to check. Also, watch the cloud mystery, greenhouse conspiracy, and the great global warming swindle.
You are and your ilk are the propagandists. I suppose you'll iterate that the emails don't mean what they plainly say, right? These aren't the droids you're looking for. Tool!!! How can you claim the the cloud mystery isn't science. The whole piece is about a scientific study that is suppressed by punk ass liars like you. The other two pieces are a continual parade of scientists and their explanations of why global warming is junk science. You are nothing but a religious zealot with Gore as god.
Huh? You freaking moron! Watch the cloud mystery and the greenhouse conspiracy. There are plenty of scientists and scientific facts there.. Childishly covering your eyes isn't going to make reality go away.
lol well if they made a town where i could live without drugs, fighting, and crime, I would surely move right on in! Some of u people act like bummer, no drugs or fighting, hahahaha
No going outside without children (becuase then it wouldn't promote the family theme), No fighting outside of any kind, No drugs, Everything must be fuzzy and cute, Look loveable....?
I wonder if the town has certain visiting days for tourists?
Corporations are not the problem (and neither capitalism). The Problem is when Corporations get in BED with our Government! Corporatism, not capitalism (which creates facism). America will continue to die and be BAD NEWS for Humanity unless everybody wakes up and does the only thing necessary to improve this country - Pick up where JFK left off and Abolish the Federal Reserve (Destroy Illuminati).
"let the taxpayers decide." that was a very functional idea. Instead of even giving the money to the IRS, before this a portion should be given directly to the taxpayers to decide what it should be used for. Extra law enforcement, hospitals, parks, transport, whatever. A citizens board in each community is entrusted with doing this. good idea yes.
Youtube screws up sometimes, if it says "video not available" when you attempt to play it but it doesn't say it on the description, then it's just a temporary bug. This video plays fine to date.
Revolutions are for those without vision or a voice to share that vision. I urge you to think of a new vision rather than just asking for a revolution.
That which you fear often comes back to haunt you. And a 'revolution' created out of fear of the past does not brood well fot its lack creationist soul (i.e. being created in response to something 'bad') and hence is inherently based on fear. And over time it too will return to a fearful outcome.
lol, bush works for the international banking syndicates. the u.s has the most oppressive public organisations, police brutality is the norm, hence the extreme means in which 'normal' americans arm themselves and have the most killings, as such, a state of perpetual fear of criminals. i think people arm themselves from the police if the shit hits the fan.
ads work only on the feeble minded :) they dont work on me =D i get my news online from forums and vlogs NOT the papers or TV i eat at home - i use everything as long as i can i dont buy the latest shit just cause its... the latest :D be like me and the corporations will die.
Very well put, however, Cuba, and its people have also been isolated, in a sense, to internal idealism. Ergo, relinquishing control (absolute power) to a dictatorship in which ultimately deprives. The neon has been 'replaced' by the internal self/other notions gathered within a Socialist construct.
the wall has been built. how do u suggest to create revoltion as the means for organizing people has been taken. the internet will be off, telephones will be cut. pidgeons will be privatized
It will happen just like it happens on small scales in Bangladesh where a group of 10,000 farmers raided the provincial capital chanting a simple phrase; "We want food." Revolutions have never been to actually advance to another Mode of Production. But simply to address a single problem, which upon being fixed will then open the Peoples minds up to Socialism and Worker ownership of the business that they work in. Cuban Revolution was only a response to agrarian reform for example.
Jehovah? What the fuck? Get this through your head, this exploitation we are seeing in these video clips is looking into our future. You want to find God? You need not look any further than in people. Ok, Ok think about the good Samaritan story. Get it?
THEY want us to fight each other. Left vs. right. Black vs White or vs mexican, its all a parlor game. This is a fight for survival. For civilization. This world will be one big plantation if we don't unite and rise up against explotation and the FEAR propaganda. We still out number the elite.
We are not asleep anymore (Americans) and I know, I believe this is the most Historic time to be alive, a witness and patriot than right now. It is going to be a very interesting election this year. I would love to see Ron Paul and Obama represent US, in the U.S
kind of ironic that you are watching this movie and you support Ron Paul, someone who wants to privatize everything. If Ron Paul was president, this world would be a scary place.
The problem with this town isn't that it's creepy. The problem with it is that it's one of the few places you can walk the streets at night and feel safe, from physical and mental assault. I'll bet you can walk down a street in this town with your kids and not see a brain damaged urchin loping down the sidewalk clutching his crotch at you. I'm moving to NY, out of the midwest, because I want to be able to be out doors with the wife'nkids. Too much to ask?
character assassination? really? i would soooo like to meet you and have tea.... please don't take me wrong... I am not trying to engage you (that would be very internet). In fact, I watched this whole video and witnessed you commenting on EVERY single episode and restrained my self from replying to most of them.... I actually appreciate most of your comments. You are a thinker. I like that. BUT...are you watching these clips? and do you know what a ghetto is or what causes one?
I don't care what causes one. Look at it this way. If I were Jehovah, I'd put everyone in a bad situation. The ones who didn't use it as an excuse to behave badly I would keep, the rest I would toss into the ocean. There isn't an excuse to be ugly. That comes from the inside. The Corp. is at my local lending library, I've seen it a few times, it's why I know about Naomi Klein, whose journalism is the only reason I know anything at all about what's going on out there.

Look I know Disney is evil but beyond that how is branding worse than advertising?
FatherTime89 1 year ago
@FatherTime89 Good question.I may be wrong, but TO ME,its worse cuz it creates monopoly & kills individuality, among other things.Like name brand fashion, for instance.A brand like Gucci can take a plain white t-shirt,slap its name on it & sell it for $200.A less known brand can slap their name on it in the same font/color & its worth crap. And the person who has the Gucci is automatically looked at as a more attractive, suitable mate.
Plus,it puts more value on marketing than makin good products.

To end this charade we need to pass a Constitutional Amendment to abolish "Corporate Personhood" and ban corporations from politics.

shine2rust 1 year ago
@shine2rust
The difference between slavery and working for a sub-livable wage is not that great. It's a difference in degrees, not kinds.
littleumbrellas37 1 year ago
The difference is in choice. Slaves were forcefully taken across the ocean to be bought and sold as commodities. They had no say in the matter, they were mere tools owned by their masters. The workers in sweatshops choose to be employed there and the fact that they do it shows that for them there is no better alternative. Are the payment and working conditions horrible by our standards? Possibly, but you would rather take even those few cents they make away from them. The difference is huge.
shine2rust 1 year ago
@shine2rust
TheSaltyAdmiral 1 year ago
@shine2rust I agree with TheSaltyAdmiral...exploitation is exploitation regardless of the label we give it. The fact that the people working in foreign sweatshops do not have any real alternatives only strengthens the argument that they are NOT free to choose--and that makes them slaves.
wbaltzley 1 year ago
@wbaltzley Do you realize that you're both actually agreeing with me in saying that working for nike whatever is the best alternative these people have? Therefore, let them work, if that is how they can provide for themselves, their families. Would you rather the "sweatshops" be closed down and deprive them of even that basic subsistence wage? Would they be better off then?
shine2rust 1 year ago
@wbaltzley Stop buying Nike then. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of the brand since it's too expensive. But let's assume everyone stops buying their s**t. Having no more customers, they close down all their factories and everybody goes home. Is that what you think would be best for those people?
shine2rust 1 year ago
@shine2rust No, I don't think we should "close down all their factories"--rather I think we should create regulations requiring that we treat foreign workers with the same dignity as American workers. Companies should be required to apply the same health and wage standards in their foreign subsidiaries as they do here in the United States.
. I am all for "Free Trade" but I also recognize that we need regulation to ensure "Fair Trade." We need to put everybody on an equal footing.
wbaltzley 1 year ago
@wbaltzley Sorry for the late reply.
It's tempting to think we can easily impose rules regulations and restrictions on markets, be they for goods or labour. However, economic realities might not match our good intentions. By saying you would impose rules of conduct to those employing cheap labour you are also implying sanctions if they do not respect (possibly closing them down). Employers that comply will face competition from those that will not.
shine2rust 1 year ago
@wbaltzley
The extra cost of ensuring whatever conditions you see as "proper" will be paid by who? The greedy owners' bottom line? Most likely it will be by the workers themselves, either through a reduction in their pay (possibly due to the "regulated" shorter hours they would work) or by laying off some of them. The low wages and flexible labour laws are what attract employers in the first place from the rigid and expensive Western countries.
shine2rust 1 year ago
@wbaltzley Basically you would be denying poor nations that competitive advantage by imposing restriction on hiring labour. As living standards increase in these countries (like they did in the West) after years of "exploitation", and workers are less interested in low skilled, low paid jobs (for example Eastern Europe), companies might seek yet again to relocate to other places.
shine2rust 1 year ago
@wbaltzley
You cannot apply the standards of a country such as the US (which are harmful and restrictive even in the said developed country) to third world nations, which have not gone through the stages of industrialization and development that the US has. The standard of living cannot be artificially boosted, but its future growth CAN be hindered by good intentions.

Lesser and lesser people dare to talk to strangers if it is not in a corporation controlled environment. It is supposed that we create cultures and cultures are not us, but corporations destroy that detachable relationship. spryaing fake snow in the streets in florida? it might not be evil but it sure is fucking wasteful, our fellow human beings live in unspeakable conditions and we spray fake snow for rich uptight white people
Chuckonbass67 2 years ago 3
BelieveIt1051 2 years ago
See this is where the dividing line gets drawn in politics. "What the hell is your problem with freedom?"
Whose freedom? They are making a free choice to do an action, but who is that action affecting? Do the people affected not have freedom? Example: smoking. Conservative argument: "I have the freedom to smoke wherever I want to!"
Sane person argument "And what about the second hand smoke that fills my lungs when you exercise that freedom?" Same goes for pollution.
caelestis356 2 years ago
The freedom of people who want to spray fake snow in the street to attract tourists. THEIR FREEDOM! That's what I was replying to.
And no the conservative argument is NOT that people have the right to smoke wherever they want to. Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins! That's the conservative argument!
Now how about the liberal argument? Your lightbulbs emit a little bit of carbon, so I force you to use toxic bulbs that emit none so that I can feel like I saved the planet!
BelieveIt1051 2 years ago
"Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins"
Sure, but the problem is that many conservatives don't seem to realize the noses they hit. Air quality is not the concern of any one person, but of all of us. And yet corporations perform actions that lower air quality for all of us, then complain that their rights are being infringed when we make regulations for the collective good. We're going to need more than CFL's to get out of the shit-hole that's been dug for us.
caelestis356 2 years ago 2
Air quality has nothing to do with carbon dioxide, which is a harmless natural gas that plants need to live.
Conservatives aren't against policies that stop REAL pollution, because as I said, their right to dump their garbage ends where my property line begins. But this whole man-made climate change scam is really starting to get out of hand.
It's a hoax. Junk science.
Taxing companies for carbon output is unconstitutional and a violation of their property rights.
