First saw parts of this show on my local PBS (public television) last year and had to buy the DVD when it came out. In fact I pre ordered it two months before it was actually released?...lol. The whole show is just a glorious tribute to classic American roots music done magnificently by Beck, Imelda, and her crackerjack band. Not to be missed on the DVD is the bonus interview with Beck himself. A rare treat since he rarely gives interviews.
>Inferalanding: "Wait till I catch you mean little Tiger" is what Mary Ford said on the original version. This utterance sounds somewhat similar I think!
Great video. I'm having trouble understanding the words on the part where Imelda May shouts out the sentence starting at 1:41. Can anybody supply the correct words?
To the poster of this video . You need more correcting. This performance was based on Les Paul and Mary Ford's version, nearly to the letter. Lyrics and all. Not Imelda's lyrics and not no Original Dixieland Band arrangement. This was performed at Jeff Beck's tribute to Les Paul show, and Beck stays as true as he can to Les Paul's guitar parts.
@Tiberius0001 I love this cover, NEARLY perfect, except I believe she starts singing "where's THE tiger" instead of "where's THAT tiger" during the beginning.
@Barb5001 Don't think so. She explained it was her own voice pre-recorded. Should be the reason why the drummer uses ear phones despite he never does usually. He must listen to the pre set tempo in order to syhnchronise the choirs.
@Barb5001: On the original some 60 years ago which this is a copy of, Les Paul set up multiple 1/4" reel to reel mechanical tape recorders upon which his wife, Iris Summers sang multiple part harmonies. Here, digital recording devices were used in an analogous way.
@Tiberius0001 Click on the link in the description box called "Tiger Rag" and you will see where the song originated. That's what i mean when i said "Based On".
BRAVO ! ! ! ! !

It didn't say it was the ODJB arrangement. It's based on the song by them. It's also a bit slow compared to some of the 20s and 30s recordings.

Brilliant! Funny and impressive at the same time. Les Paul was a genius, and these people take him seriously (while having fun)...

@Tiberius0001
I think Imelda's vioce was feed into electronics that spilt her vioce into various pitches and combined them in real time for the harmony.
All her live vocals from that gig's perfomace that reproduce the Les Paul sound were in too perfect sync for her to be singing to/with a tape.

they nailed Les and Mary's arrangment! Imelda must be singing with a tape of her harmonys like Mary Ford did. Amazing.

@craigoog She did actually. I watched this special on PBS and she made a comment about that when she came on for "How High The Moon"

@craigoog She doesn't try to hide that fact. Did the same thing on How High the Moon.
