@schulwitz I would quibble about whether such an approach would actually be in line with the US Constitution (one of the reasons the thing was written was to create a government that could actually collect taxes), but that's just a historical nit to pick, and I totally agree with the sentiment.
I think Federal taxes should be 15% of everyone's income, and we should be able to portion out that 15% to whatever part of it we feel is most worthy of our hard-earned dollars.
Do you have any idea how hard it would be for the military to accomplish anything if it relied on voluntary contributions? Even if it raked in the same amount of funding, the total unpredictability of how much money it would recieve and when would cripple any cohesive military effort, or force the military to keep incredible amounts of cash in reserve, meaning money would be used far far far less efficently.

@schulwitz I would quibble about whether such an approach would actually be in line with the US Constitution (one of the reasons the thing was written was to create a government that could actually collect taxes), but that's just a historical nit to pick, and I totally agree with the sentiment.
I think Federal taxes should be 15% of everyone's income, and we should be able to portion out that 15% to whatever part of it we feel is most worthy of our hard-earned dollars.

Do you have any idea how hard it would be for the military to accomplish anything if it relied on voluntary contributions? Even if it raked in the same amount of funding, the total unpredictability of how much money it would recieve and when would cripple any cohesive military effort, or force the military to keep incredible amounts of cash in reserve, meaning money would be used far far far less efficently.
