Being the regular Messiah that John Frusciante is to many people in his generation, he was born again. This guy is not today's John. As he says in 'Today', today's John was sleeping while this guy was doing this, and he learned his lessons.

See, he went through a horrible struggle. If you're downgrading the use of drugs for musical expansion, you're indirectly discrediting Fruscinate's experience. See, HE IS THE ARTIST, NOT US.
So why don't you shut your mouth and open up your ears, since we would never be strong enough to overcome this. Embrace his struggle. He's great, not us.

To say there is a cause and effect relationship between his addiction and success is romanticizing substance abuse - which is likely part of why Frusciante got to this point in the video.

@dmonkeyland i get what youre saying. a lot of artists express themselves because of the pain they have been through. john was a genius when he joined the band. he had to fight against addiction to be the great musician he is. i think he had pain but he buried it in drugs instead of music. getting rid of drugs helped him put his pain into music. do you know what i mean?
