  • @healthyaddict Wow, no I didn't miss the point, and you didn't explain why I did, which shows that you're just making empty declarative assertions for lack of a better answer. Stupidity like yours is one reason why comments here are approved -- it saves me the time of having to deal with so many more stupid comments. Sorrowful. Moron. :D

  • Just for clarification:

Customs adopted that arent meant for worship dont break any OT or NT laws, right?

Does the Bible actually refer to such cases or is it a secualr issue and thus not treated there.

  • @d007ization It would be a secular issue, but quite frankly, very few of them would have had time for the sort of trivial stuff that passes as recreation on these holidays, like gathering eggs for fun, so I wouldn't expect it to be addressed anyway. For most of them just finding their next meal was enough of an occupation.

  • @tektontv So like the Bible said (which, funnily enough, even ProfMTH quoted) if the custom doesne't impede on the tradition it's ok (even if it is of more utilitaristic use than gathering easter eggs)...

  • @d007ization Sounds like a fair summary. Though the honor-dishonor aspect is very important to note too when considering their culture.

  • Another good video, brother. Keep up the good work.

  • @CRoadwarrior Thanks....have we met before? You look familiar....I subbed too.

  • @tektontv Not in person, but we have been in email contact for years. I've written for your website. I'm shocked you don't know me. LOL. In the past, I called your style of apologetics "gangsta apologetics. Ring a bell?

  • @CRoadwarrior Ahhhhhh....yes, I have it now. :D Funny, I just got a screwy email about one of your articles for me. It was so dumb I didn't even forward it, but it won a Screwball Award. Drop me a line and tell me more...500 chars doesn't allow for much convo here.

  • I actually own a Sega Saturn. Worth every penny, especially after you get it to play Japanese games.

  • @Konanarian ProfMTH says: "Heathen. Repent!"

  • What does "Hraka" mean?

  • @Konanarian In the novel Watership Down, it is a term the rabbit characters use for their own excrement.

I figured it would give something to Prof and his fans to go "duh what" over.

  • ProfMTH said over on RFD's site:

"And he never answered the question about why he celebrates Easter."

Uh, Mitch? Check my vid. I already said I don't care for any of that stuff. So the answer is, I don't celebrate it -- no eggs. No bunnies. I observe the Resurrection...not Easter. Try again, and wipe that soot off your face. :D

  • @tektontv The whole point of his videos were that Jesus WOULD be offended that you celebrate Easter, which is why he begged the question. So let me reword his question for him: "Why do you support Christians celebrating Easter when the bible obviously says that it is a sin to do so?"

  • @Idontlikelobster And as I showed, his point is wrong, because modern Easter celebrations, while sometimes silly, are not a sin. Do yourself a favor: Try actually watching, and understanding, the vid before you comment on it.

  • I see how this explains the pagan holiday easter (eostre, eastre) it doesn't really speak on how easter got added into christianity to make it easier to conquer people celebrating spring festivals. And it could also address Attis who was born via virgin birth died on black friday and rose again on easter sunday when they celebrated over his resurrection each year. This is where christians got the story and it predates jesus birth by hundreds of years.

  • @terrryg That sure was a funny comment. Way, way wrong about Attis -- see my vid "Dr E Medical Examiner: Attis vs Jesus".

  • @tektontv NIce video you must've got your information from one source, and I got mine from another (historians) Any other topics you'd like to discuss while we're here? Living inside of giant fish(or whales) for 3 days in stomach acids and no oxygen, or living 900+ years, or how we all arrived here through incest twice. (Creation, after ark (Oh the ark thats a good one make that video next don't forget the insects) Stories of giants, talking animals, eating flesh and drinking blood= christianity

  • @terrryg Sorry, no historian advocates such an irresponsible view of Attis. My sources were credentialed scholars, you're giving the term to uncredentialed persons. As for other topics, read my rules -- I limit comments to topics of vids. If you want to discuss Attis you can go ahead and comment there, I'll allow it and watch for them.

  • Enjoyed this thoroughly!

  • This was pretty funny JP! Now if you could just convince the Christian conspiracy theorists of this it would be even more helpful. My video on Holy Friday gets criticism from CCT "Easter is pagan & Jesus wasn't crucified on good Friday" before they bother watching it...

  • That tune is wonderful! Where is it from???

  • @OprahWinfreysGhost I get all the music in that one from incompetech. com.

  • I think it would have helped more if you stated that painted eggs were never part of pagan customs and were added by a christian holy man ~500 years ago, to my knowledge.

I also looked up Semitamis on Wikipedia. She was actually a demigod and they don't talk about rabbits or eggs.

I'm not sure how much Christians "stole" from pagans for Easter, but if any, they likely aren't exact.

  • @Mectrixctic I checked around and found that the dependence is indeed theoretical and subject to debate...but I figured to give Mitch's argument the benefit of the doubt was the best course. And made for a funnier vid. ;)

  • So again, here's how dumb Mitch's arguments are:

    1) It means that eg, because pagans even today give charity as a religious obligation, all Christians must stop giving charity. Once it BECOMES a pagan practice, Mitch's argument REQUIRES that it be given up.

    2) No one "serves" or worships YHWH by coloring eggs, etc. The pagan practices were not recreational and ours are not for service.

    3) Either way, Mitch's idiocy dies on my point re trivializing them, which gives honor to God, if anything.

  • Okay, Mitchy, now it's time for YOUR cross examination.

    1) How much do you know about client-patron relationships?

    2) What is the genre of Deuteronomy?

Answer these or I'll delete your messages in this thread from now on. And don't go slumming on Wikipedia for answers, you loser. If you don't know the answers, admit it like a man.

  • To make it even more clear how dumb Mitch's argument is, notice: By his fundamentalist/legalist reading, pagans could have ground Jewish worship to a halt simply by adopting some of the same worship practices the Jews did!

  • @tektontv "...pagans could have ground Jewish worship to a halt simply by adopting some of the same worship practices the Jews did!"

LOL! Reading comprehension isn't near the top of your skill set. Deut 12:30-31 says Yahweh doesn't want pagan practices imported into his religion, into his service. "Do not inquire after their gods, saying, 'How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?' You shall not behave thus toward Yahweh your god." It's not the other way around.

  • @ProfMTH ROFL, social data's at the bottom of YOUR skill set, Mitchy! It says no such thing at all, except by a very poor reading in English. The "behavior" is disloyalty to YHWH as covenant God -- the "likewise" is "serve their gods". No other reading makes sense of the social and historical data, especially since eg, pagans used temples, tabernacles, sacrifices, etc. which by YOUR dumb reading, would have had to be forbidden too. Once again, you bungled because of your fundamentalism. Too bad.

  • @tektontv "...Mitchy! It says no such thing at all, except by a very poor reading in English."

Here's the passage, Jimmy (Or is it Bobby?). "Do not inquire after their gods, saying, 'How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?' You shall not behave thus toward Yahweh your god." Yahweh expresses no concern about pagans borrowing Jewish practices, but he forbids his devotees from borrowing pagan ones--a prohibition you & most of your coreligionists have opted to ignore.

  • @ProfMTH Poor reading in English, like I said, sucker. It ought to concern you that you're using the same arguments that a Church of Christ fundy uses to ban musical instruments. Doesn't it worry you that that is how dumb you sound?

It also makes you look dumb when you ignore the argument and just repeat back the same crapola that's been refuted like some retarded cymbal-crash monkey.

So answer my questions, little man.

  • @ProfMTH Uh, right...do we "serve" Yahweh with the Easter bunny and Easter eggs?

  • @Dante666 That's a good enough point I'll add an annotation about it just to cover both possible renditions.

  • @Dante666, do you think that celebrating Easter serves Yahweh? Do you think that how you choose to celebrate Easter might be relevant?

  • @DarkMatter2525 No one thinks celebrating Easter with bunnies and eggs serves Yahweh, and certainly not in the sense of the word used in Deut.

  • LOL What a funny movie. Good job TektonTV!

  • This is funny. This would be essentially your response to the Jehovah's Witnesses when they object to celebrating Christmas?:)

  • @ukchristian28 I wrote an article on that once...answer was basically the same as this one. Though they appeal to more bad info.

  • What is a fundy atheist?

  • @iiiiblaze An atheist who interprets the Bible as a fundamentalist does.

  • @tektontv Interprets the bible like a fundamentalist Christian?

  • @iiiiblaze That is correct.

  • "Nothing about present Easter holiday practices serves any pagan deity"

It needn't. According to Deut 12:30-31, Yahweh doesn't want pagan practices imported into his religion, into his service. "Do not inquire after their gods, saying, 'How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?' You shall not behave thus toward Yahweh your god." But who cares what your god says, right? *You'll* decide how you're going to worship Yahweh, his commands to the contrary notwithstanding.

  • @ProfMTH Yeah sure, fundy boy. And WHY were those practices done? As a SERVICE to the deity. "Worship" reflects an act of submission to a superior suzerain/patron. No one submits to Semiramis by coloring an Easter egg. Like I said, your argument is as dumb as thinking you "serve" or "worship" Saturn by buying a Saturn auto. Just drop the mouth-foaming hatred of Christians, Mitch, and use your brain for a change. Also try doing some serious research into ancient concepts of patronage and service.

  • @tektontv, mouth foaming hatred? ProfMTH uploaded an innocuous text video and you responded to it by depicting him being shot. Hatred? Hmmm. I wonder what people would think if I uploaded a cartoon of an atheist shooting Christians during a "Christian Hunting Season". What would you think of that?

  • @DarkMatter2525 Yes, mouth foaming hatred. There's absolutely no reason to make an issue of such things except to try to inspire guilt, or fear of judgment by God in Christians.

What would I think of that? I would think it is a "DarkMatter Production" using a gag inspired by Looney Tunes. Yeah, that's real violence there to Prof; turned him all gray like that. I hate him so much I want him to be gray. For someone who uses animation as a format you seem to not be too clear on its implications.

  • @tektontv. Christian. Hunting. Season.

You never told me how that would make you feel.

Perhaps you are what you hate.

  • @DM2525 You asked what I would THINK, not what I would FEEL. I told you what I would think. As to what I would feel: NOTHING. You expect me to say I'd feel threatened, offended, etc? No, sorry. I'd see it, again, as a version of the LT gag, especially if you had all the other ideas with it is as I did (eg, Elmer Fudd). So there's no reason to "feel" any of that, unless one is insecure or ignorant...and I'm not.

You guys have a persecution complex worthy of Islamic martyrs.

  • @tektontv, fair enough. If that's true, then you're quite unique. I would never make a video with a Christian Hunting Season, because even as a rabid atheist, I would find that quite distasteful. Furthermore, if I were to somehow widely publicize such a video, like on national television, you know for certain that there would be an enormous uproar from the collective Christian community - and I don't think they'd be in the wrong to do so.

  • @DM25 Shrug. If I cared about uproar from the "collective Christian community" -- people who think Joyce Meyer is the world's best theologian -- I wouldn't produce a tenth of the material I do. I know a great deal about the history and use of cartoons and caricatures, including editorial cartoons. What I did is nothing unusual or new. On the side: I appreciate that you at least are original in your productions, there are far too many here who make vids only by cribbing screenshots.

  • Ugh. I'm exchanging comments with him on his video. As Bugs would say, "What a maroon!"

  • Thank goodness! I can keep eating Peeps!

  • @JMcH Peeps? Yuk. Have a carrot.

I notice he won't answer questions even as he feels free to pose them. Mr. Cross Examiner thinks he's hot hraka -- he knows that if he tries to answer, he'll be exposed as a fraud.

I could have added some stuff here about patronage, too, and how no one is entering into a covenant with Semiramis -- but that'd be WAY WAY over his head. :D
