@zander392 No, it was a competition at my undergraduate school. However, not long after, I did play this at the NTC. It was much better at the NTC... Smoothed out the rough sections and circular breathed through the long mid section of the piece.
@zander392 - I don't! I wish I could... especially now that I'm working on the Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. It's so much harder! If you listen carefully, I just omit a sixteenth note here or there and sip the air.
Because it's the tempo at which most cello players play it at. I tried to stay true to the music. Those intervals are definitely easier slow, though :-P
What are your favorite YouTube flugel performances? I'd be grateful if you could favorite a few or maybe make/reference a playlist. Thanks for a wonderful performance here.
Honestly... my favorites are ALL Segei Nakariakov :-) He's such an amazing musician! Anyway, just check out all of his videos to start. From there, all I can say is jazz jazz jazz :-)
Haha, I'm working on that part now, actually! I've figured out a spot or two to sneak in some circular breathing. But Sergei is frustrating... he can circular breathe WHILE double tonguing! :-S
Wonderful job! Great technique, intonation, and long phrases. Your Flugelhorn sound is mellow and thick. What kind of Flugelhorn are you using? Courtois?
Thanks! I play it on the flugel because that's how I heard Nakariakov play it. Also, as it's a cello piece, the flugel's rich sound is (in my opinion) more appropriate. Thanks for the comment!
I like the interval double tonguing. nice job, I was surprised by how low it starts, it must take quite a bit of air, especially on your flugel. peace
It was written for Cello, so breathing wasn't even factored into the compositional structure. It takes a bit of air and many hours of practice! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you! :) It's a bear of a piece to play on the flugel/trumpet, but MANY MANY hours of practice were put into it. Still, if you listen to Sergei Nakariakov play it, it's 100 times better! Thanks for the post!
que pulmones Dios, que interpretacion, hermoso...... me encantaria verlo en vivo..... es dificil ver esto.

I have the same flugel, I love it! Sounds great, but why play it on flugel and not Bb or Eb? Just curious.
