  • Lovely playing - thanks. I note that much of this is not in the published score. Do you have a more detailed score which includes Towner's more improvised sections, or did you inprovise it yourself?

    Thanks

    Sean

  • Hey, great playing, best cover I have seen of this beautiful piece by Ralph. Where did you get the sheet from ¿?, I have been looking for it and only found one with the first part....

Any chance you might be able to email it ¿?

    Anyway, thanks and congrats !!!!

  • @remoreno thanks!

I cant find the sheets right now, will have a look at it.... cheers, ww

  • I can play the tune itself now, next is the solo, my right hand is not going to like this...lol

  • I just started working on this tune, I can't read music, but thanks to your excellent video I CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!

  • @TheTony1058

thanks! have fun with the tune! cheers, ww :-)

  • In every classical guitar method (see Aaron Shearer books) you see a lot of exercises for all combination if i-m-a, so I don't see any problem with your right hand technique in that regard. Maybe Towner plays is with just i-m, but this is definitely not the standard technique. Quite the opposite, i-m-a is the standard. This is very nice performance you do here. Of course - Towner's dynamics and the quality of tone is a DREAM hard to reach! :-)

  • Great video, are you sight reading TAB of sheet music? If it's TAB could you share the source?

  • @TheTony1058

Thanks! Its Sheet music, no Tab, sorry ...

  • Hey you can take the criticism or leave it, but trust me, it's constructive. Look at any video on here of any professional player, and you'll quickly see what I mean.

  • very nice attempt on this piece. i play this one myself....

one comment -- your right hand technique is making things harder for you. in general, in classical guitar one never uses the ring finger except for chords. the melody generally will be fingered entirely by your index and middle finger in an alternating fashion. try playing this way for a day or two and you'll see a big difference in how smoothly you can play...

  • Thanks, especially for putting all these RT videos up on your channel! :-)

I'm not happy with this one here anymore, but mostly because the guitar is not tuned well....

  • ...

Your comment about right hand technique & 'Wechselschlag' seems very strange to me, and also a bit funny. Are you stuck in Sor times, technically?! Lots of things have changed since then ... :-D

Today, all combinations of i-m-a are absolutely common for all kinds of melody runs etc.

I'm not saying that my runs are perfect here, but ... well ... anyway ... thanks for the laugh!

    all the best, ww

  • Not really. Watch how Ralph plays on the videos I've posted. He's not alone in this. It's pretty much standard.

There ARE, however, exceptions (Michael Hedges comes to mind), but playing your ring finger over and over for the melody is just silly. I think maybe you learned to keep a given finger on a given string, which won't get you very far if you have to play more complicated pieces, and doesn't work too well on the less complicated ones...

  • well, sure its standard, and of course I do both, depends on the tune ... and this one is pretty simple, compared to other 'classical' compositions. If you hear problems on that particular recording ( that was made pretty quick after learning the song for one or two days ), it surely doesnt come from playing i-a-i-a instead of i-m-i-m.

  • Sehr schön gespielt :)

  • andre again...by the way, are you into Carlos Barbosa Lima? He seems to be the master in playing Jobim, and has a superb book with CD on his tunes...

  • Beautiful! *****

  • Beautiful, Pascal! You are so inspirational!

  • When I listen to you Pascal, I feel so fortunate to call you friend. You are an amazing talent!

  • aw ... thanks Bobbie!!!

  • Wie immer sehr beeindruckend! Und 'zu schnell' finde ich gut... B.

  • thanks laurie!

  • meisterhaft

  • danke!

  • really cool

  • I could listen and watch classical guitar being played allday, a just love the simplicity and delicate sound, but i know theres nothing simple about playing so proficiently at all but that really was fantastic. Dam you good, Major respect to the waits!

  • nice comment, thanks a lot!

I think I played a bit too fast, but then its at least another view, compared to the original.

  • The original will always be the original but thats what makes this such a great tribute, thanks waitswatcher, because you introduce us to so many artists that are so very often overlooked these days. Again thank you, your works are greatly appreciated.
