Dallas was the best soap ever made!!!! Where did all the writters in Hollywood go for Christsakes????Nothing but Cops, reality shows and bullshit.Network television is officially fucking dead!!!!!!
Why on earth did JR go heading for the window? In typcial JR style it wasn't him that fell out of it.The next season opener is a classic when Sue Ellen says ''you mean that bastard is still alive''
Dallas collapsed when Pam awoke... season 9 plots were stunning (a fake Jock, the loss of the company, etc.) but so improbables: by a merry coincidence, Jock and his fake shared the same wounds, same height etc.... Jock told his whole life to that men, who remembered every detail... And did the writters know the characters?? Sue ellen hardly gave a damn about Pam's crash (she never went to the hospital!) of for Nicholas death! How could Cliff accept Pam's decision when he found her?? etc.
My favorite part of this cliffhanger is the "fake" freeze on Pearce's body, as if the identity of the falling man would be the unresolved issue. That kind of outside-the-box thinking was rare during the show's later years.
Where does Pearce get off accusing JR of being a "sorry excuse for a man"??? His own father is a former mafioso!
It seems to be law that in a long period in the soap operas that some character is revealed as Mafia contacts especially when the writers don´t have a better idea.
i have a dallas book written in 1985 titled "dallas: the complete ewing family saga, including southfork ranch, ewing oil, and the the barnes-ewing feud-1860-1985 and if anyone wants to buy. i will sell at any price b/c i am not doing this for money.
After this episode, the rest of the show went downhill fast. Sue Ellen had really nothing to do in the next season, which is why she left. She rarely interacted with the Ewings after this. JR married Cally, which really ruined the show. JR and Sue Ellen had better chemistry.
The producers of Dallas foolishly thought this awful music score by John Parker was actually gold, when it served to further cheapen the show, post-Bobby in the shower. They used John Parker often and in every season finale, in the last 5 seasons. The score itself is a ratings destroyer.
I just undeleted it. Initially, it appeared as though the comment went in the general section, so I was confused and removed it. I like your suggestion for that cliffhanger. The music score in general isn't so bad, I just liked the more traditional music, better. Thanks for responding.
This was truly the last great Dallas cliffhanger but...
...wouldn't it have been a wham bam shocker if...after we see the body going over the balcony and falling, they cut back to the apartment with a close-up on Sue Ellen and then....
Nicholas Pearce turns around to face her!!!!!!!
JR could have landed in a pool or a window-washing cradle hanging below or something (I know that sounds crazy but this is Dallas)
That could have been even better than Who Shot JR?
I do like that ending you propose, but the resolution does pose a problem: How could J.R. survive without a conrny thing like landing in a garbage truck or something.
I stopped watching by then, the first 5 years or so were good. THEN they started competeing with DIE NASTY. I truly hated DIE NASTY it was pure trash and hell they couldn't even get it right if the homo was a homo.
@crassyfrake 50 Cent? A nobody crap product and his manager that uses getting shot fiction as a marketing ploy? Someone's selling. Don't interfere with the mighty Dallas please.
Yeah I noticed the same thing, on the Return to Southfork, the showed this scene and she does indeed say "Where is my son, you BASTARD?". Strange how the line disappeard.
Splat!!! Jack Scalia played a slimy bastard really well.he was also in Red Eye with Rachel McAdams,he was Homeland Security Director Charles Keats.his wife played Tracey, the pool hustler who turned out to be Carter Mackay's daughter, who also had a short fling with Bobby during season 11.she returned later for her brother,Tommy's funeral.
She is reporting the murder because she is a GOOD PERSON, and announcing her name right away gives it extra dramatic tension, since this after all, Dallas.
I can assure you, kind sir, that I was not in fact drunk out of my gourd when I watched this clip.
I was not referring to the amount of times he was shot in this instance, because he was quite clearly shot thrice. I was in fact referring to the instances in which he was shot throughout the series. I am aware of two instances - here and the imfamous "Who Shot JR?" cliffhanger.
You sir, were not justified in calling me an imbecile. Oh well, can't help having silly people in the world.
Jr was shot by an old enemy of Jock's in the Dove Hunt episode of season 2. He was shot by Kristen, by B.D. Calhoun, by Sue Ellen, and by Carter MacKay's crazy assistant in the Last T.V. movie. I think that's it.
Sue Ellen kicks ASS!!!! I never bothered to watch "Dallas" again after Sue Ellen and Pamela left. I never even knew it made it as far as the 90s till I learned how to use the Internet, LOL!
Whenever I see this cliffhanger, I always remember the pause of Nicholas Pearce falling. Was that just a little gag by the producers to fool the viewer into thinking who was the one falling and the season ends there. I always thought that was funny.
The last good cliffhanger of Dallas! Also, Ray Krebbs and Jenna left, more blows started by the dream season. Some didn't like Pearce, though. That's the closest to murder as JR got.
@Dallas70
Why leave it out?, its one of the best lines.

How the fuck does a guy fall off the edge??? Even though it was obvious the camera was put there for that reason. Really shit directing.

In true dramatic style, they would have to fight their way to the balcony, where someone is either dangling or falls.

In order to save DALLAS after the dream sequence they needed to do something drastic; how about....
Sue Ellen falls in love with another woman and discovers she is a lesbian after all.
Miss Ellie shoots and kills an intruder at Southfork and goes to prison for murder.
John Ross and Christopher are both killed in a fire at Southfork leaving Bobby and JR desolate and inconsolable; meanwhile Ewing Oil goes to ruins.
Bobby eventually marries Phyllis and at the wedding ceremony Pam arrives!!!
