  • Sorry, but this sort of thing has been going on for years. Kids probably see that orch musicians are "real people" too-- not exotic. But would we be excited if a visit by author coming by to read a book to the kids were considered the school's' reading program for "these kids." But these kids are our kids, I want them to have more. Did the DE lobby for a music program after their visit?

  • ...so what have the kids and the school learned: that a drive-through demo is enough music instruction for them? that their music is not what musicians value. The director even says "We bring music to them" as if the kids have no music. Sounds like colonialism. This is an one-way outreach, not a musical exchange. The school administrators are happy because they can say they provide "something" without having to provide a comprehensive, sequential music program.

  • You guys rock! Thanks brother will for expanding my appreciation for classical music

  • As David St. George says, the vibrancy of the players is compelling, engaging, enticing for young people who have never hear classical music. Courtney Lewis' conducting is great - especially with musicians as responsive and willing to have fun like this. I hope these guys get the support they need to keep doing this great work with kids!

  • it's been a lot of fun playing with this group both in workshops and performances! keep your eyes open for our next concert in january!

  • Fascinating... The Conductor and Musicians have a wonderful interaction with the kids who are obviously thrilled and greatly enriched by the novel experience.

This kind of cultural enrichment on such an easily accessible level for young students is just as important to the learning environment as the "3Rs".. It is nourishment for the soul and should be a requirement in every school.

BRAVO to the virtuoso musicians and the brilliant conductor.

  • So so so so cool! I especially enjoyed the selections the musicians chose to demo each instrument... I mean, who wouldn't recognize Star Wars?! This is exactly what these kids need!
