We have an unbridled free market? huh? are you high Madame Speaker?
Ever heard of the Federal Reserve, the FTC, EPA, IRS, FDIC, NLRB, OSHA, FAA, FCC, SEC, HUD, WPA, TVA, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the Community Reinvestment Act?
And have you heard of former Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines? His fingerprints are all over this mess from the start.
Carter Administration:
he was associate director for economics and government in the Office of Management and Budget and assistant director of the White House Domestic Policy Staff from 1977 to 1979.
Fannie Mae: Vice Chairman from 1991 to 1996.
Clinton Administration: he was the Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, where he served until 1998.
On December 21, 2004 Raines accepted what he called early retirement from his position as CEO while U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigators continued to investigate corruption.
Jamie Gorelik also left the Clinton Administration and went to work for Fannie Mae.
During her 6 year period with Fannie Mae she "earned" more than $26 million!

Just to let you know Nancy Pelosi is one of the richest congressional leaders John Kerry is the richest... This Bitch lies threw her teeth she makes me sick.. her freakin buddies f*cked us with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and she wants to blame the administration... push socialism into a capitalist society and you will f*ck it up... ask Jimmy Carter he was great at it... I can't wait for someone to cold cock this bitch
I cannot believe 40% of Democrats voted against their own Speaker!! Oh yeah, I forgot, those Dems that voted in FAVOR of the bill are sugar babies of Fannie M and Freddie M. Obama especially benefitted hundreds of thousands of dollars from them in return for keeping them irregulated. I'm proud of the Dems that voted against this ridiculous bill.
It's amazing that Pelosi was so stupid as to give the Republicans an excuse they could use to oppose a bill that they are against. Republicans are against this bill because they know they will get stuck paying it. The real reason they oppose it. The Rich are predominately Republican. The Rich oppose taxes. Once we figure out how to get the working people of American to be liable for the loses this Bill will cause, they will pass it.
Bipartisanship? I don't thing so Nancy! You should stop using the same speach writer that George Bush uses.
On balance, George Bush's oratory skill of public speaking is the same as the context of your written speech.
Bipartisanship can also be between two opposite groups (e.g. liberal and conservative) to agree and determine a plan of action on an urgent matter that is of great importance to their voters.
16 Dems in danger of losing their seats in next election were told NOT to vote for it. Almost entire Black Caucus which is not in danger of losing their seats didn't vote for it. Obama didn't make a single phone call before and during the vote. If Dems wanted this to pass, they'd told their caucus to vote for it. They didn't, so it didn't.
Two pieces of paper that was not the reason why I need that large amount of money, followed up by a more detailed memo, but bullet points. As the majority, you all have failed and I pray you all do better, because at least you knew the Republicans would do something instead of nothing.
I sorry Madam Speaker, but we all know President Bush and his Economic team made bad judgment calls, we didn't need you to speak ill when we need bipartisanship.
I am a Conservative Democrat, I am proud of the House Republicans for not going with the President, but sadden the Democrats did not tell the American people, the President sent the request for 700 Billion dollars on two pieces of paper.
Excellent speech, how dare the Republicans try to pin the blame on her for 2/3rd's of their own party rejecting the bill. She speaks the truth, Bush as ruined the USA.
Nice insults to Bush, and you got the bill past. Oh wait the bill did not pass. Thanks for putting country first!!! Oh wait you put politics first. Its good to know that although you been in congress for over 20 years none of the blame for these problems is yours. Keep up the divsion in congress when we need leadership, cause why lose the chance to bash Bush when you could help the country instead. Great job!! keep up the instuls, I really don't care if I lose my job
wall st.. just another Enron in the making.. and of course I am sure George bush Sr is behind it somewhere... and nobodys going to jail... whys arent these fucking pricks on wall st lying to there computers going to jail???
Let another depression start... I dont mind paying 35 dollars for a loaf of bread... we have thiefs all over New York, wall st, Washington... so if these people arent going to jail by god bring a great depression on... I will sleep in the street to help it happen...come on... its out time for the american revolution.
Your hot air partisan comments regarding the bailout legislation helped defeat its very passage. Your criticism of the current president and his asleep-at-the-wheel handling of the economy was right on the money. However, you failed to mention that the legislative branch, controlled by DEMOCRATS, is very inept as well.
I noticed you had a new "do" when you gave your speech, no doubt to look good for the photo-op after the legislation passed.
Further, Mrs. Pelosi, you have the audacity to act appaulled at $700 billion dollars but you werent giving a second thought to earmarks for ACORN in the first bill. Who do you think you are kidding? Get off your soap box you liar and start doing your job. What happened to your "ethical" congress? All lies. Nothing but bullshit and lies. I hope the fine people of California boot you out on your high falootin ass.
Mrs. Pelosi you are a liar. You owe it to the citizens of this country to take accountability for democratic policies that brought us to this point. You owe it to the citizens of this country to begin hearings on the mismanagement of Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac. You owe it to the citizens to have these hearings to address the unethical and fraudulent behavior of certain congress members.
Call Nancy Pelosi @ (202) 225-0100 & let her know you want Congressional hearings investigating the mismanagement of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Tell her you want answers from Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer. Ask her why Franklin Raines and James Johnson were allowed to cook FM books enron style without being held accountable. Ask her why her democratic party refused reform of these entities in exchange for campaign donations
Pelosi is a smart person who keeps the welfare of the American people in mind. If she thinks the bill is bad, it probably is. However, I don't think Pelosi was to blame for the failure of the bill. I think the bill itself was the cause. If there are so many glaring problems with a bill that throws around $700 billion, would you want it to go through? Even the majority of Republicans voted against it. While I agree that something must be done as soon as possible, a better bill can be written.
Incredibly irresponsible! You knew that the country needed this bill and you had to rub your adversary's nose in it just like a first grader on the play ground. Grow up!!!
Why don't we do what Warren Buffet did, purchased preferred shares with 10% interest?
That way they could get the cash they need.
Buffet didn't want to mess around with the toxic assets, why should we? Other than the politicians want to selectively dish out the 700B for political gain.

In 1977 Jimmy Carter signed the "Community Reinvestment Act", which required loans be given to people with low-income and poor credit.
Then in 1995, the Clinton administration, the Democrats added new laws that forced banks to issue $1 trillion in sub-prime loans.
In 2005 John McCain co-sponsored a bill to stop these practices and provide more regulation to Fannie Mae and the Democrats BLOCKED it!
Nancy Pelosi received more than $32,000 in campaign contributions from these crooks!

It's true, what she says... Most of this crap with Fannie Mae/AIG etc. is because of Reaganomics and Republican deregulation...
But now, all the Republicans can say is "well, a few Democrats were complicit so it's their fault... they should have stopped us..."
