The Thief series paved the way for games like Splinter Cell and Assassins Creed and even in the way games like Skyrim use sneak elements. Back in its day it was a really smart game and also scary as fuck to play.

I've been playing Deus Ex and Half-Life a ton lately, and oh my god this game has amazing visuals. Half-Life looks great but very clean and the polygons are too noticable, Deus Ex... well, it kinda always looked visually bad, but this game is just stunning. The art really shines through, polygons be damned. I'm definitely going to start this one up soon.

ppl have made fun of the guards in thief screaming every thought that brushes their cerebrum but i always imagined the main character just had incredible hearing after all the years of sneaking around, and the guards are just speaking at a normal level.

this would also explain the fact that it sounds like he's wearing tap shoes when he walks.

@DementedBoosh This is the first mission (so it's fairly easy), and i know where all the guards are, but new players don't know where they are, so it's a very challenging game!

@BlueCap86 are there any stealth games with a level editor? completing hundreds of different stealth missions without knowing where the guards are, that would be awesome!

not that i'm saying assasin's creed is bad becuz I got those games two becuz it's not but Thief 1 & 2 will alway's be classics really good games I remember making Garrett Jump to move faster and my uncle use to tell me why is he skipping lol I was like i'm jumping. I love how they made the servants voice sound gay lol.

I see people talkin about this series hasn't hit the next-Gen Console only Thief Deadly Shadows made it to the Xbox and yea Garrett's foot steps are really loud but this Game is one of it's kind it can't be touched and becuz of this game look how many wonna be Thief Games are out today where do you think assasin's creed came from no company can ever compare to Looking Glass Studios it's a shame they closed down I got all 3 Thief Games I don't care what people rate them but to me they get 5 stars

@IGNsucks Yeah, I agree. I mean I can hear Garret's footsteps when he walks up behind a guard to knock him out, but the guard doesn't (unless we're talking about tile/metal). This is one of the things they're addressing in The Dark Mod. You actually have to *sneak* up on them to knock them out in TDM.

Still though, Thief's atmosphere is amazing after all these years.
