I like the old pistol model, and I found that smg (refered to as the 'Jaytest' in my copy of the hl2 beta, materials, models, and even I think there were sounds, but I didnt find any script. odd that they would port that into the hl2 beta.

Possibly a left over from old development, as Source engine has some data from Half-Life 1's engine. For example the Combine elites in the Beta have exactly the same AI as Human Grunts from HL1. There are also sounds from Barney anf Human Grunt voice clips fro HL1, and even some of the Hazard suit sounds.

The Jaytest looks like an mp5k in my beta, the comment there was old. It was my misinterpritation, go into the models folder and there should be a screenshot of v_jaytest, youll see what I mean.

He was originally just a low level enemy but one of the coders was testing pathfinding with him by making him follow the player and they enjoyed that test so much they made him an ally. In the beginning every character that appeared was an enemy just like every other FPS at the time.

There's google. There's the Half-Life wiki. The most informative source is a booking called "Raising the Bar" published by Prima games, that was a "Making of Half-Life" type book. But unfortunately that's out of print and goes for a lot on ebay.

Just because the visual were poor quality doesn't mean the gameplay/code was. In many ways it out did the retail version; scientists could swim & climb laders, the game included a co-op mode etc.

In the same period another game used the quake 2 engine: Sin.

Quake 2 Engine is a evolution of Quake Engine..not the same thing.

Wow this early version really looks like Quake but in modern times. Good thing they decided to do something original.

This is the planned release of Half-Life in 1997. Due to delays and technical problems, they had to rework the game. 70 percent of the game engine was remade. If you've played HL, you notice alot of diffirences here. The security guards are on the military's side, the weapons look way screwed, and the level design is diffirent. I read that during the year delay Valve rewrote 70 percent of the game.
