this is so awesome! i've always been quite the quintesential English rider, i started in a school doing showjumping and cross country, then trained primarily in dressage for about 3 years before just recently starting work at a reining competition yard. i'm going for my first lesson today and thought i'd look up dressage-reining, and found this! so similar yet so different... and the horses look like they're enjoying themselves :) i love the warmbloods big paces compared to the nippy QH.
both are beautiful disciplines and are great. dressage is beautiful and fun and western is and useful! (not bashing any discipline but really would you use dressage on a cattle ranch?) They are both beautiful and take so much skill! Wonderful!
@gryphonkeen yes, i agree but it has transformed into quite a fancy sport from what it would be like on the battle field. it would be cut to the chase on the field. But they are both very hard and fun disciplines. (i have tried them both) i like western better not saying that western is better it just what i like. that is my personal opinion!
@Haydensc10 Yea I'm an "eventer" I guess by preference, but I ride dressage, tricks, trails, jumper, natural, and have even done reining, sorting, gaming, and some gaited riding. They are all really fun of course, horses are amazing no matter what discipline! And each have their merits and flavors... for example, I ADORE saddlebreds, but I like them for dressage and eventing! you can imagine how few people agree with me on that particular flavor!
@gryphonkeen I have to fully agree with you on that horses are awesome no matter what! I love them! My room is covered in them. (i know what you are thinking oh some other crazy horse teen) to that point i am. i love them wish i had my own, i really dont care what breed as though you favor saddlebred. but im just happy if i get to ride! :)
@Haydensc10 trust me horses are great to ride but when it comes to owning horses it can be difficult. I have just brought a mustang from texas and had it brought to England and it is brutle to look after it but when it comes to riding, it is like a dream. My daddy said dont under estimate the power and soul of a horse.( quoted by my daddy, in memory of his life)
where in that statement was there any bashing of any discipline? It simply says that the poster felt one discipline looked better than the other. It didn't say that western riders are worse riders, or anything to "bash" anyone. You, cowgirl4lyfe999, are the one giving riders of a certain discipline a bad rap.
@angie2174 ::: i apologize....i must have had a horrible day wen posting this because it was a while ago...let me revise my opinion;; both of these types of riding are great, and take skill to preform correctly. while all disciplines have a bad side, we need to focus on bettering ourselves.

The cowboy rides the dressage horse better than the dressage rider. She should take some lessons.

@Haydensc10 Maybe not on a cattle ranch, but dressage was developed in the military, reining wouldnt have helped much in battle.

What a great idea! It really demonstrates the similarities between the two disciplines. I wish I'd been there to see it live.

Harvey's horse is sooooooo nice.
Kinda reminds me when i got on my mom's Prix St. George Horse, So many buttons and sooo much fun to ride, they are sooo sensitive to weight
