Well, he is a pretty unique Piranha Plant, being the only one with a humanoid body. Plus I beleive the comedic introduction he had in Sunshine had something to do with it. That scene where Petey and Mario look at each other when the roof of the windmill gave way was hilarious.

When you get to the final, save and quit. Then copy your save file onto an SD card. If you lose the final, just erase your save data and copy your old file from your SD card. You can now retry the final.

NOTE: This will delete your online record I think, as they are not copied when you copy your file.
