Actually, I think this narrator appears in Pale King, talking more about his father being some kind of insurance agent or writer, but it was really brief and felt like a cameo and didn't expand the character. And yeah, the book felt way more unfinished than his publisher claimed.
I've just finished "The Pale King" and it was speculated that this story from his book of short stories 'Oblivion' would reappear in the novel, but it wasn't there. Of course, he wasn't able to do the final edit , so I guess we'll never know what he might have intended.

This was great to listen to...
