2) I know I'm going to hell.. oh! wait a second... I'm an atheist...
There is something I still don't get... who come people can believe in hell or heaven...
The all knowing... shouldn't he know all your doings beforehand? doesn't he has a purpose for you like you being a killer, rapist, thieve, etc... right? Isn't it a blatant paradox?
@cluengas2k Not when you understand that the Creator has given each individual free will otherwise we would be machine like in our uniformity . It would appear that here is both heaven and hell contained within the human consciousness . "As we think so it shall be."Litterally our fate is in our own hands ; this is the great gift of the the Creator . there are no accidents in this world all things come to each of us as a result of our own personal thinkingness... good or bad , evil or righteous .
@fabianstraregy One can't prove the existence of free will, but ignoring that, the implication of a resultant uniformity doesn't follow. Consider soap bubbles, their size, shape, etc. is deterministic, yet no two bubbles—no matter how similar—may be identical. Similarly the starting conditions of all humans is different, so it could be that human behaviour is deterministic, a foam of humanity. Free will or not, it looks the same.
@thedrakeman I'll have to get back with you on all the concepts you just threw at me , but I will say that free will is most definitely demonstrable . Thusly as follows : We are, most of us , all moving thru existence in a similar manner caring for our bodies, starting and raising families plus acquiring all the things that are needed to make such endeavors successfully occur .We are similar but not identical .We are not automatons because if we were there would be no descernible differerence.
@fabianstraregy Indeed it's tricky to be concise in YT_char_lim :) The problem with saying no discernible difference is that we live in a chaotic world and deterministic processes can lead to unpredictable results in a chaotic system. The nature of having a self aware conscious mind is that it "feels" like we have free will, but the problem arises when you want to test this, is that once you go down one path you can't revisit it and take another. This problem is hard to avoid in chaotic systems.
suvarenee... another serious mistake. Mankind has not been described as God's "children" universaly. Mankind has been described as an enemy saved alone by grace then ADOPTED as sons and daughters. Also... the doctine of hell is aligorical. We can get into that sometime if my thoughts may be seen of some curious interest.
I don't agree with the bible so I'll make up my own truth. You can do anything that you chose as an atheist because you believe you are a God. If there is no devil then why would our government hang out at the Bohemian Grove worshiping an idol owl? Atheists are merely in denial that either good or bad exists. Sure many Christians play the damnation card when God teaches us to love each other. Atheists assume they "get out of jail free" card for choosing not to believe.

@chinngis83 I think people are offended because she showed them her pussy...and let me say her pussy, while very cute and all, isn't even 1/10 as attractive as she is.
@svdlmf Heh heh, fair enough. But that's in keeping with many only wanting to look at her, not listen. She might wear a tight, slightly low-cut shirt sometimes but I try to take in the entire package (poor choice of words).
If it weren't for Luke 16:19 I would be 100% convinced that hell is what athiests think death is. Dead in the ground forever. Spirit dead with the body. THE END.
I think that John 8 and John 3:15-17are excellent examples of what JESUS thinks of sin, condemnation, hell etc... JESUS is LOVE!!!!!
@suvarenee 1. Mainline protestant christians (for the most part) also believe that Jesus is coming back to earth soon, and will wreak havoc on the supposed evil in this world, yet they fail to accept Jesus' words in Matthew 16:27-28 or Matthew 24:30-34 when Jesus explicitly says that He would come back in His Kingdom, before some of His 12 disciples tasted death, and before His own CONTEMPORARY generation passed away.
@suvarenee 2. In Isaiah 19:1, it says that the Lord rode into Egypt on a SWIFT CLOUD. This event took place over 2500 years ago, yet there is no evidence of a SUPERNATURAL BEING riding into Egypt on a cloud. This is metaphorical / analogous language that represented God coming into a place in JUDGMENT. The same is true for Jesus saying He would return on a CLOUD in the New Testament (I'm going somewhere with this, just bear with me).
3. The Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21), as well as the book of Revelation, were seemed to have a lot of apocalyptic, world shattering words. But Jesus said that all of those judgments would fall upon the Old Covenant Jews of the 1ST CENTURY (not the whole world, nor a century thousands of years in the future). You can see Jesus clearly explain that in Luke 21 and also Matthew 23 (before Matthew 24).
4. I bring these eschatological points up to show you that mainline christians have ignored such simple exegesis of scripture, and have held onto traditions of men, passed down to them throughout the centuries. They listen to their pastor preach, and they just accept what is being told to them. The same reason they are unable to accept that Jesus already came back in the 1st Century, is the same reason they can't understand that 'hell' (which is ambiguous), is not an eternal torture chamber.
5. They've been indoctrinated by mega-preachers, pastors, and teachers that Jesus is coming again soon, and 99.9999 percent of people are going to fry for all eternity. They never do their own research. They never study on their own (which the Apostle Paul tells us to do in 1st Timothy 2:5, and he also commended the BEREANS in Acts 17 for studying the scriptures on their own to see if what Paul said was true or not).
6. Jesus spoke in metaphorical / allegorical / 'figure of speech' language. You cannot take a metaphor literally. Jesus was using the illustration of the trash dump outside the city (Valley of Hinnom) where trash was burned, to relay that this in the same way those who didn't come to Christ would also merely PERISH. John 3:16 is pretty clear on that as well. There are many scriptures in the new and old testaments that christians take out of context to get their silly eternal torture doctrine.
7. But I digress, I say all of that to say this, that people (on both sides of the fence, believer and non-believer alike) have made the most crucial mistake of all. They never go research anything for themselves, thus causing many to turn away from God and Christ altogether, or they come to God begrudgingly, simply because of localized pressure by friends, family, etc.. Open your minds, and simply seek TRUTH. If you are seeking TRUTH and the highest good, you will find it. It worked for me.
8. The same way that the majority of christians believe that Jesus is coming back soon (2nd coming), despite Jesus clearly saying He would come back in His own contemporary generation (Matthew 16:27-28 ; Matthew 24:30-34), is the same reason why many believe in a place of eternal torture, in spite of Jesus being perfectly clear in John 3:16, that they would simply PERISH. People would rather listen to the words of John Hagee, Hal Lindsey, or some tele-evangelist, than they would Jesus Himself.
9. In regards to why many christians can't accept these TRUTHS, is because they have gone through a lot of cognitive dissonance, believing that accepting these TRUTHS will marginalize, polarize, or compartmentalize them from their contemporary cohorts. I'm a living witness to this fact, that when you do start accepting the realities of what Jesus said, not only will you be severed from the outside world in most cases, but you'll also be severed from other 'believers.'
@markymarkuss777 But when WAS this? Never? "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all...-- so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. On that day, let the one... not come down to take them away... I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left."
@StratMatt777 A. Jesus was using the illustration of the days of Noah to represent what it would be like when the Romans came and surrounded Jerusalem. The Jews started revolting against Nero Caesar around 66 AD, so Nero sent Roman Centurion Cestius Gallus in to quell the rebellion. Jesus warned His disciples that when they saw the abomination of desolation (or as Luke puts it, the armies that will make Jerusalem desolate) to flee to the mountains of Judea (CONTINUED BELOW)
@stratmatt777 B. Cestius Gallus was advancing all the way to the Temple in Jerusalem, when (as the Jewish Historian Josephus put it) he and his Roman legion turned back to Rome. This was no less an act of God, because it was the sign that the christians needed (which they remembered Jesus say that when they saw the armies surrounding Jerusalem to flee to the mountains of Judea), to flee the city. The Romans then came back under Vespasian and his son Titus to finish the job. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@stratmatt777 C. Just like the Jews had no clue that the Romans would suddenly surround Jerusalem and destroy the city and their Jewish Temple in 67-70 AD, is the same way the people of Noah's day didn't recognize that the floods would unexpectedly come and wipe them all out. The 7 bowls, 7 vials, 7 trumpets, 7 seals (judgments) in the book of Revelation were all of the forewarned judgments given to the Israelites through Moses in the Old Testament. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@stratmatt777 D. In Leviticus 26, God told the Israelites that if they continue to disobey Him, He was going to punish them 'SEVEN' times over for their sins. God says this 4 different times in Leviticus 26. The 7 fold judgments being poured out by the Angels in the book of Revelation are the fulfillment of what Moses said back in Leviticus 26. These were not worldwide judgments, these were judgments upon the Old Covenant Jews specifically (see Matthew 23 for another reference). CONTINUED BELOW
@Stratmatt777 E. In Matthew 23, Jesus told the Old Covenant Jews that He was going to send them wise men, scribes, apostles, etc.. but that they (the Jews) would scourge them, persecute them, chase them, and even kill them. Jesus said that because they were going to kill and persecute His Disciples, all of the righteous blood spilled on the earth from the beginning of creation (Abel) up until their own time period (Zechariah) would fall on their head. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@stratmatt777 F. In Matthew 23, Jesus explains that the Jews of the 1st Century were going to be held responsible for the murder of every single righteous person who ever walked the planet. That was obviously going to be a pretty hefty judgment don't you think? That's why all of Jesus' language seemed to be apocalyptic or world ending. The world wasn't ending when Jesus came back, rather, the old system was ending. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@stratmatt777 G. In Matthew 21, Jesus also explains that the Jews would be held responsible for murdering the Son of God (Jesus Himself), in the parable of the Vineyard Owner. I'll let you read that for yourself. This all ties into the parable you quoted from Luke 16:19-31 about the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man had 5 literal brothers and was rich. This rich man represented Judah (or the Jews). He was wealthy, because he had the oracles of God, the covenant, lineage of Abraham, etc. (CONT.)
@stratmatt777 H. Judah also had 5 literal brothers (Reuben, Levi, Zebulun, Simeon, Issachar) just like the rich man in the parable. The beggar was named Lazarus and ended up in ABRAHAM'S BOSOM. In Genesis 15:2, you'll see that Abraham's servant was named Eliezer, which was the Hebrew transliteration of the name Lazarus in Greek. Eliezer was a GENTILE. The Kingdom of God was going to be stripped from Judah or the Jews (In Matthew 21 of the Vineyard Owner), and given to the GENTILES. (CONTINUED)
@stratmatt777 I. This is why Lazarus ended up in Abraham's bosom. It had nothing to do with the AFTERLIFE, but had everything to do with the Gentiles being grafted into the Kingdom of God, so that it was no longer exclusive to the Jews and Israelites alone. A lot of people mistake Jesus' parables for the end of the whole world, or for the afterlife, when that couldn't be further from the truth. To spiritually discern these parables, you can't take them literally. (CONTINUED)
@stratmatt777 J. Jesus was using symbolism to illustrate spiritual concepts. The mainline christians of today made the same mistake as the Jews did of their day. Jesus explains why He spoke in parables in Matthew 13, and it was to reveal how blind the eyes of the Jews were. He explained the deeper meaning of everything to His disciples privately, which is why Jesus told them (the 12 disciples) that their eyes did see, their ears did hear, and their heart did understand. (CONTINUED)
@stratmatt777 K. Because they not only received an understanding of the parables Jesus spoke to everyone (Mark 4:33-34), but they also understood that every story in the Old Testament was a PARABLE / METAPHOR / SHADOW OF Jesus Christ Himself! After Jesus rose from the dead, He stayed with the disciples for 40 days and explained to them how all of the writings of Moses and the Prophets of the Old Testament were all shadows or parables about HIMSELF (Luke 24:27 << read that).
@markymarkuss777 I did. Thank you! A while back I remember seeing some web page that claimed that the end-time events were fulfilled in 66AD. "the abomination of desolation in the west wing": The Romans entered the temple from the west wing?
What about the image that was made to speak? Is there any historical record of these plagues coming on Jerusalem?
Ahmidenijad wants WW3 to bring the muslim Mahdi who makes a 7 year agreement with Israel. The Revelation beast makes 7year agreement too!
@markymarkuss777 VERY interesting what you said about Luke 16 and the 5 brothers! Wow! And also John 3:16 mentioning Jesus coming to redeem, not condemn (since we will lie dead in the dirt anyway if he never came or if we don't believe Him).
A couple things don't fit though:
Matt 24:7 "Nation will be against nation, famines pestilences, earthquakes in various places... you will be hated by ALL Nations for my name". In 66AD numerous kingdoms and "ALL Nations" were not involved.
@markymarkuss777 And especially Matt 24:21 says there will be " great tribulation , such as has not been seen since the beginning of the world... after the tribulation the sun will be darkened and the moon red, etc..
Matt 24 and Revelation are FULL of world-wide events. and "if they were not cut short no flesh would survive"... that sounds world-wide, not just Jerusalem being taken over and destroyed by Rome, which I agree Jesus did refer to in places. That did not rock the entire world.
@StratMatt777 (I posted a few comments on how the gospel being preached in all the world, so go read those as well). As to the sun being darkened, moon turning to blood, universe collapsing type language, you can see the same metaphorical / heavenly language being used in Isaiah 13 in regards to the Babylonians (under King Nebuchadnezzar) falling to the Medes/Persians. You can read Isaiah 13 for yourself to see it. This wasn't literal obviously, otherwise the world would have ended back then lol
@markymarkuss777 Yeah, both of you having 777 in your name seemed a little too coincidental. But what really made me wonder was how much both of your posts sound (read) alike. Must just be my imagination, eh? Aha, ha...
@markymarkuss777 Because of all the references to all the nations and tribes seeing Jesus and worldwide calamities when Jesus returns in the clouds contained in Matt 24, Rev7:9 says that these end events will not happen until ALL Nations have received the gospel, and the rest of Revelation- I don't see how revelation or the (final) second coming (eg:not Jesus appearing to 500 after resurrection) has occured.
There are things in revelation that are not symbolic that have not happened yet also.
@markymarkuss777 Within Matt 24:7-30 are references to "ALL the nations" (repeatedly), "Preached to all the World", "all the tribes of erath shall mourn and will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds".
:31 "and his angels shall gather the elect". This worldwide stuff has not happened.
I've long been curious about Jesus' "This generation" & "you will not taste death before you see me", but think that he was telling those men that they would see him 3 days after his crucifiction & 500 did!
@StratMatt777 Hey Matt, I wasn't ignorin ya, just got busy the last couple days. I want to set the precedent with this first before I delve into the intricacies of what you've asked. I also had the same questions. Many words in the English Translations of the Bible are not as black and white as they seem. Some words in the Greek and Hebrew were ambiguous, because they held many different meanings. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@stratmatt777 With that said, in regards to the ambiguous nature of words in the Bible, a couple of the most misconstrued words would be 'WORLD' or 'EARTH.' An example of this is found in Luke 2:1
Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Obviously, the Roman empire didn't own the WHOLE WORLD, they only owned the KNOWN WORLD at that time, which spread throughout Europe. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@stratmatt777 This also ties into what Jesus said in Matthew 24:14 when He said that the gospel would be preached in all the world, then the end (of the age) would come. Well, was this fulfilled in the 1st Century? Let's see what what Paul had to say in Colossians :
Colossians 1:6 that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. (CONTINUED)
@stratmatt777 Not only did Paul say that the gospel had been preached in the whole world (while Paul was still alive), but he also said that it had been preached to every creature under heaven.
Colossians 1:23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. (CONTINUED BELOW)
@markymarkuss777 Wow! You and I are strangely at the same point in our quest for the truth of the Bible. Well, maybe it is not strange- we are just reading the Bible instead of listening to MEN!
Jesus spoke of gehenna or sheol where garbage is disposed of. The only reference to hell I have found is Luke 16:19(24), which refers to "Hades", of which Strong's says: "properly unseen, that is, “Hades” or the place (state) of departed souls: - grave, hell." Jesus is talking to a selfish rich man.
@markymarkuss777 Luke 17:20- He answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed, nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or 'There!' for _the kingdom of God is in the midst of you_." ... "The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.... For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day..."
I disagree. It makes sence. Sometimes we just need the right example: Murder is wrong. Lets say I kill a bug in my front yard just 2 see it die. Am i in trouble with the law? Nah, but what if I walk down an ally and kill a hobo? Now I'm in some trouble, but lets go one step further...what if I assasinate a queen or president? Now I'm in deep! And so on up the latter the same offence becomes more serious as to whom the offence is commited. We know right n wrong, our sins are in direct rebellion
@sgapplebee Modern day Americans...? As opposed to what? Ancient Americans? ...lol
My reference was to atheist males who only wanna see a hot girl but wont listen to the same person with the same ideas because they can't see her tits. THAT'S shallow.
Considering the time period in which the New Testament was written and the local of it's authors, it is no wonder, that the early Christians, chose to depict the afterlife for most mortals, as one that strongly resembles the underworld of the Greek god Hades. If you were to look honestly at the New Testament, you would find that it is ripe with plagiarism, stealing bits and pieces from any religious doctrine that these newly converted people came into contact with.
well acutally its not because of the image of God we have souls But because God put his breath of life into us, in the afterlife, their is either great rewards that you never expericened in life of great pain that you never expericed, there is no way around it even a slighty evil person is still evil and has no good in him and if he does do good its always for himself or for his agenda thats why he dosnt go to heaven, all people are evil and can only become good through jesus's struggle on the
intresting thoughts, hell is in my view created by oneself, lets imagine that after death time isnt relevant any more and we have an ternity to examine all the decisions we made in life and their consequenses . see it as a tree your born at the stem and every choise you made will be a branch. After death you examine also the routes you took and didnt take. If you lived your live well it will be pleasurable, if you lived bad it will be hell.
(Supposedly) 500 zillion years ago there were no beings to suffer pain for eternity. So God, knowing the outcome, created humans knowing full well that they would disobey him and then not accept his son and suffer forever in Hell. So why should he go ahead and create us if he knew we would mostly suffer forever? Would you go ahead and create some sub-atomic form of life knowing they would mostly suffer forever? Not morally right, eh? And all this from an all-knowing righteous moral giving"god".
@suvarenee The easiest way to defeat the doctrine of hell is to simply think how much a person is concerned about the hell defined by a different faith. Muslims are not the least concerned about the christian hell as well as christians are also not concerned about the muslim hell. Apply that to all the different faiths and denominations and you'll quickly see how this "doctrine" falls apart universally. Great video, for a cat : )
@jacko87me Haha, well what do you expect? She is an extremely attractive, articulate women, who just happens to be wearing low-cut shirts in a few videos. In all honesty, I need to find a woman of such caliber.
Since there is increasing evidence that our innate morality appears to be ancient drives handed to us by our evolutionary ancestors the belief in hell, what it represents and what it has done to society becomes less and less tolerable to me. Excellent video. Subbed.
Hell never bothered me when I was young. I simply didn't believe in it and considered it nothing more than a scare tactic to control the faithful and threaten everyone else. It wasn't until much later, that I started considering the moral implications. Not just the morality of a god that would do this, but what it says about ordinary people that would deem everlasting torture to be just punishment for anything other mere humans are capable of.
... points about hell (lR72G8dRh4k if you haven't seen it).
I also consider teaching children the doctrine of hell to be child abuse (Dawkin's in an interview related to a pastor a story a woman told her, that two traumatic experiences happened to her in her childhood. 1. That she was sexually abused by her pastor, and 2. She was told her best friend who died was in hell. She says without hesitation that the second was the more traumatic of the 2).
Yeah, I struggled with the doctrine of hell as well, around 13-14 I kept repeatedly asking myself how a loving and all powerful God could not only condone, but be the designer of such a system (ie eternal torture for all non-believers).
1:06 That was my experience (ie many Christian's had a strong sense of schadenfreude about hell, as a kind of "You'll realise you were wrong, it will be too late and we'll have the last laugh").
The other side of this hidious belief is the loophole of salvation. When I finaly read the bible for myself, one of my objections to the teachings of Jesus was that setting up a moral system that hardly anyone could live up to and then offering absolution only if they begged for his mercy, seemed like the manipulative and self aggrandizing behaviour of a cult leader. I think adding the threat of eternal torture with fire on top of that was the most despicable thing that Jesus ever did.
I agree with what you say. Hell is such a piece of unbelievable garbage, straight from the mouths of frustrated disciplanarians, and the undoing of Christianity. And Satan? Did the bible say anything about God having rival gods to contend with? Isn't there supposedly just ONE god? Then how can there be a Satan? As I have said before, the concept of Satan is just a shield for people to hide behind, rather than accept responsibility for what they do. Blame it on the goat.
Hi Renee, I also think that seeing you gives your words more presence, and personal. If the comments of some young men are unpleasant to you, simply dress without decolletage. As for Hell, where did that comcept come from? If I were to quote the bible, in the beginning God did whatever, AND HE SAW IT WAS GOOD. No mention of Hell or badness. All is good. Did Jesus mention Hell? Even if the NT quotes him as such, who can trust the text with their 3000 yrs of piously amended "improvements.".
Renee, don't be to harsh, Imagine a world without Hell? No South Park Sadam and Satan, Rockand Blues would be limmited to songs about girls. My favorite phrases left meaningless. No hell yeah, hell no... , They are correct, they do see through a glass dimly, but they do perpetuate some good scary ideas that are really fun this tiome of year, and Hell houses make them look like the rediculously un critical thiners that they are. I say bring on the crazy, it makes our case for us.

I think that John 8 and John 3:15-17are excellent examples of what JESUS thinks of sin, condemnation, hell etc... JESUS is LOVE!!!!!

@suvarenee 1. Mainline protestant christians (for the most part) also believe that Jesus is coming back to earth soon, and will wreak havoc on the supposed evil in this world, yet they fail to accept Jesus' words in Matthew 16:27-28 or Matthew 24:30-34 when Jesus explicitly says that He would come back in His Kingdom, before some of His 12 disciples tasted death, and before His own CONTEMPORARY generation passed away.
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@suvarenee 2. In Isaiah 19:1, it says that the Lord rode into Egypt on a SWIFT CLOUD. This event took place over 2500 years ago, yet there is no evidence of a SUPERNATURAL BEING riding into Egypt on a cloud. This is metaphorical / analogous language that represented God coming into a place in JUDGMENT. The same is true for Jesus saying He would return on a CLOUD in the New Testament (I'm going somewhere with this, just bear with me).
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
You can see Jesus clearly explain that in Luke 21 and also Matthew 23 (before Matthew 24).
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
4. I bring these eschatological points up to show you that mainline christians have ignored such simple exegesis of scripture, and have held onto traditions of men, passed down to them throughout the centuries. They listen to their pastor preach, and they just accept what is being told to them. The same reason they are unable to accept that Jesus already came back in the 1st Century, is the same reason they can't understand that 'hell' (which is ambiguous), is not an eternal torture chamber.
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
5. They've been indoctrinated by mega-preachers, pastors, and teachers that Jesus is coming again soon, and 99.9999 percent of people are going to fry for all eternity. They never do their own research. They never study on their own (which the Apostle Paul tells us to do in 1st Timothy 2:5, and he also commended the BEREANS in Acts 17 for studying the scriptures on their own to see if what Paul said was true or not).
markymarkuss777 3 months ago

It worked for me.
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
People would rather listen to the words of John Hagee, Hal Lindsey, or some tele-evangelist, than they would Jesus Himself.
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
9. In regards to why many christians can't accept these TRUTHS, is because they have gone through a lot of cognitive dissonance, believing that accepting these TRUTHS will marginalize, polarize, or compartmentalize them from their contemporary cohorts. I'm a living witness to this fact, that when you do start accepting the realities of what Jesus said, not only will you be severed from the outside world in most cases, but you'll also be severed from other 'believers.'
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@markymarkuss777 But when WAS this? Never? "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all...-- so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. On that day, let the one... not come down to take them away... I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left."
StratMatt777 3 months ago in playlist More videos from suvarenee
@StratMatt777 A. Jesus was using the illustration of the days of Noah to represent what it would be like when the Romans came and surrounded Jerusalem. The Jews started revolting against Nero Caesar around 66 AD, so Nero sent Roman Centurion Cestius Gallus in to quell the rebellion. Jesus warned His disciples that when they saw the abomination of desolation (or as Luke puts it, the armies that will make Jerusalem desolate) to flee to the mountains of Judea (CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 B. Cestius Gallus was advancing all the way to the Temple in Jerusalem, when (as the Jewish Historian Josephus put it) he and his Roman legion turned back to Rome. This was no less an act of God, because it was the sign that the christians needed (which they remembered Jesus say that when they saw the armies surrounding Jerusalem to flee to the mountains of Judea), to flee the city. The Romans then came back under Vespasian and his son Titus to finish the job. (CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 C. Just like the Jews had no clue that the Romans would suddenly surround Jerusalem and destroy the city and their Jewish Temple in 67-70 AD, is the same way the people of Noah's day didn't recognize that the floods would unexpectedly come and wipe them all out. The 7 bowls, 7 vials, 7 trumpets, 7 seals (judgments) in the book of Revelation were all of the forewarned judgments given to the Israelites through Moses in the Old Testament. (CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 D. In Leviticus 26, God told the Israelites that if they continue to disobey Him, He was going to punish them 'SEVEN' times over for their sins. God says this 4 different times in Leviticus 26. The 7 fold judgments being poured out by the Angels in the book of Revelation are the fulfillment of what Moses said back in Leviticus 26. These were not worldwide judgments, these were judgments upon the Old Covenant Jews specifically (see Matthew 23 for another reference). CONTINUED BELOW
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@Stratmatt777 E. In Matthew 23, Jesus told the Old Covenant Jews that He was going to send them wise men, scribes, apostles, etc.. but that they (the Jews) would scourge them, persecute them, chase them, and even kill them. Jesus said that because they were going to kill and persecute His Disciples, all of the righteous blood spilled on the earth from the beginning of creation (Abel) up until their own time period (Zechariah) would fall on their head. (CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 F. In Matthew 23, Jesus explains that the Jews of the 1st Century were going to be held responsible for the murder of every single righteous person who ever walked the planet. That was obviously going to be a pretty hefty judgment don't you think? That's why all of Jesus' language seemed to be apocalyptic or world ending. The world wasn't ending when Jesus came back, rather, the old system was ending. (CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 G. In Matthew 21, Jesus also explains that the Jews would be held responsible for murdering the Son of God (Jesus Himself), in the parable of the Vineyard Owner. I'll let you read that for yourself. This all ties into the parable you quoted from Luke 16:19-31 about the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man had 5 literal brothers and was rich. This rich man represented Judah (or the Jews). He was wealthy, because he had the oracles of God, the covenant, lineage of Abraham, etc. (CONT.)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
(CONTINUED)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 I. This is why Lazarus ended up in Abraham's bosom. It had nothing to do with the AFTERLIFE, but had everything to do with the Gentiles being grafted into the Kingdom of God, so that it was no longer exclusive to the Jews and Israelites alone. A lot of people mistake Jesus' parables for the end of the whole world, or for the afterlife, when that couldn't be further from the truth. To spiritually discern these parables, you can't take them literally. (CONTINUED)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 J. Jesus was using symbolism to illustrate spiritual concepts. The mainline christians of today made the same mistake as the Jews did of their day. Jesus explains why He spoke in parables in Matthew 13, and it was to reveal how blind the eyes of the Jews were. He explained the deeper meaning of everything to His disciples privately, which is why Jesus told them (the 12 disciples) that their eyes did see, their ears did hear, and their heart did understand. (CONTINUED)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 K. Because they not only received an understanding of the parables Jesus spoke to everyone (Mark 4:33-34), but they also understood that every story in the Old Testament was a PARABLE / METAPHOR / SHADOW OF Jesus Christ Himself! After Jesus rose from the dead, He stayed with the disciples for 40 days and explained to them how all of the writings of Moses and the Prophets of the Old Testament were all shadows or parables about HIMSELF (Luke 24:27 << read that).

markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@markymarkuss777 I did. Thank you! A while back I remember seeing some web page that claimed that the end-time events were fulfilled in 66AD. "the abomination of desolation in the west wing": The Romans entered the temple from the west wing?
What about the image that was made to speak? Is there any historical record of these plagues coming on Jerusalem?
Ahmidenijad wants WW3 to bring the muslim Mahdi who makes a 7 year agreement with Israel. The Revelation beast makes 7year agreement too!
StratMatt777 3 months ago
@markymarkuss777 VERY interesting what you said about Luke 16 and the 5 brothers! Wow! And also John 3:16 mentioning Jesus coming to redeem, not condemn (since we will lie dead in the dirt anyway if he never came or if we don't believe Him).
A couple things don't fit though:
Matt 24:7 "Nation will be against nation, famines pestilences, earthquakes in various places... you will be hated by ALL Nations for my name". In 66AD numerous kingdoms and "ALL Nations" were not involved.
StratMatt777 3 months ago
@markymarkuss777 And especially Matt 24:21 says there will be " great tribulation , such as has not been seen since the beginning of the world... after the tribulation the sun will be darkened and the moon red, etc..
Matt 24 and Revelation are FULL of world-wide events. and "if they were not cut short no flesh would survive"... that sounds world-wide, not just Jerusalem being taken over and destroyed by Rome, which I agree Jesus did refer to in places. That did not rock the entire world.
StratMatt777 3 months ago
@StratMatt777 (I posted a few comments on how the gospel being preached in all the world, so go read those as well). As to the sun being darkened, moon turning to blood, universe collapsing type language, you can see the same metaphorical / heavenly language being used in Isaiah 13 in regards to the Babylonians (under King Nebuchadnezzar) falling to the Medes/Persians. You can read Isaiah 13 for yourself to see it. This wasn't literal obviously, otherwise the world would have ended back then lol

ole9421 3 months ago
@markymarkuss777 Because of all the references to all the nations and tribes seeing Jesus and worldwide calamities when Jesus returns in the clouds contained in Matt 24, Rev7:9 says that these end events will not happen until ALL Nations have received the gospel, and the rest of Revelation- I don't see how revelation or the (final) second coming (eg:not Jesus appearing to 500 after resurrection) has occured.
There are things in revelation that are not symbolic that have not happened yet also.
StratMatt777 3 months ago

(CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 With that said, in regards to the ambiguous nature of words in the Bible, a couple of the most misconstrued words would be 'WORLD' or 'EARTH.' An example of this is found in Luke 2:1
Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Obviously, the Roman empire didn't own the WHOLE WORLD, they only owned the KNOWN WORLD at that time, which spread throughout Europe. (CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 This also ties into what Jesus said in Matthew 24:14 when He said that the gospel would be preached in all the world, then the end (of the age) would come. Well, was this fulfilled in the 1st Century? Let's see what what Paul had to say in Colossians :
Colossians 1:6 that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. (CONTINUED)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 Not only did Paul say that the gospel had been preached in the whole world (while Paul was still alive), but he also said that it had been preached to every creature under heaven.
Colossians 1:23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. (CONTINUED BELOW)
markymarkuss777 3 months ago
@stratmatt777 Another few instances where the word 'WORLD' is used, is here :
Romans 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.
Acts 24:5 "We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene sect.
So you see, the gospel had been preached in all the KNOWN WORLD at that time. The World or Earth didn't mean always mean the whole planet.
markymarkuss777 3 months ago

Considering the time period in which the New Testament was written and the local of it's authors, it is no wonder, that the early Christians, chose to depict the afterlife for most mortals, as one that strongly resembles the underworld of the Greek god Hades. If you were to look honestly at the New Testament, you would find that it is ripe with plagiarism, stealing bits and pieces from any religious doctrine that these newly converted people came into contact with.

intresting thoughts, hell is in my view created by oneself, lets imagine that after death time isnt relevant any more and we have an ternity to examine all the decisions we made in life and their consequenses . see it as a tree your born at the stem and every choise you made will be a branch. After death you examine also the routes you took and didnt take. If you lived your live well it will be pleasurable, if you lived bad it will be hell.
ysvry 3 months ago
(Supposedly) 500 zillion years ago there were no beings to suffer pain for eternity. So God, knowing the outcome, created humans knowing full well that they would disobey him and then not accept his son and suffer forever in Hell. So why should he go ahead and create us if he knew we would mostly suffer forever? Would you go ahead and create some sub-atomic form of life knowing they would mostly suffer forever? Not morally right, eh? And all this from an all-knowing righteous moral giving"god".
baldone46 3 months ago
@suvarenee The easiest way to defeat the doctrine of hell is to simply think how much a person is concerned about the hell defined by a different faith. Muslims are not the least concerned about the christian hell as well as christians are also not concerned about the muslim hell. Apply that to all the different faiths and denominations and you'll quickly see how this "doctrine" falls apart universally. Great video, for a cat : )

Smart 12 year old.
I think TheAmazingAtheist raises some good...
