  • Always wear a glove, you can see in my later video, that I do. Thanks, very good advise and a example of why it is important!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No thumb guard or glove? Ask Pete LeClaire, CCA member, about the blood infection that landed him in the hospital after those micro skin slices allowed enough bacteria in to almost kill him!!! New carvers, always wear thumb protection and a glove....foolish behavior.

  • Hey, I have to ask what could you make with a pocket knife and a stick? I am interested in woodcarving and would like to start.

  • Hello, you can make a walking stick with a snake on it, I show this in one of my vids, Make sure the knife is sharp. Have fun and be safe.

  • @brycle u could make an arow for a bow

  • Interesting carving video .)

maybe u can learn another stuff from me??

  • Amazing chain saw carving.

  • Hello, glad you are interested in carving. I started carving a long time ago with a pocket knife and a stick. Having a sharp knife is the key. Also, I have made fixed blade knives from hack saw blades. Good luck and be safe carving!!

  • Hey I just found out I have a tiny bit of Irish in me (but I'm 98 percent Mexican, Spanish and Aztec) and decided to start whittling, but I see lots of videos of people using "store bought" looking wood and also using a bad saw and a whittling specific knife. Is it alright if I randomly see a piece of wood on my mile walk to high school and pick it up and us that? And also if a use a Swiss amry knife?

  • Thanks!

  • If you are carving a stick. I like to use something strong like walnut or hickory. But if you can not get these. Go to a lumber yard and get a piece of poplar and start just rounding it off. Use a piece that is about 4 foot long, 3/4 x 3/4 inches. And start carving some grooves after it is rounded. This will give you an idea how the wood will cut in relationship to the grain.

  • do you need certain tpes of wod for carvig? or can you grab a decent looking stick and start working on it

  • Thank you very much for this video. :) My grandma was a great woodcarver as well as artist, and I inherited the artist in her, but of course I will probably never meet or pass her in skill. Still, lately I've really wanted to try my hand at woodcarving as she did! I still have all her tools but I'm a bit nervous to start. I will def. start with something simple like this video. :)

  • @Danasapirate USE A CARVING GLOVE AND THUMB PROTECTION,GO SLOW.YOU CAN DO IT

  • What kind of wood are you using?

  • Thank u! This video is very helpful because I just started to try woodcarving and this helped a lot

  • @Eksteven4321 Sounds like a good idea, thanks for watching!!

  • Where did you get your knife thing?

  • @MeAreMeGoesMOO , the wood carving knife is a hand forged knife. You can get them on ebay .

  • Cool video :)

    I try it

  • Thanks for the comments!!

  • yeah, the other thing about the glove is that it protects your project from the nasty stuff that comes out of and off of your hands. this can cause your item to anywhere from get dirty to completely change the color of it. then it may not stain or paint properly. an easy beginning project is to carve a ball out of a square block. this will teach an important lesson about learning about the round of everything!!!

    great job, keep it up!!

  • Nice Video my friend .. Iam so proud of you ..

    Gene
