A lot of women have adverse effects from HPV other than actually developing cervical cancer. Many women become very stressed out when they have abnormal cell development in their cervix and have to undergo procedures such as colposcopy, repeat Pap smears, LEEP, cone biopsy and so forth. I'd rather take my chances with the adverse effects of the vaccine rather than the adverse effects of HPV.

Types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, and 59 are the high risk types that are consistently found associated with CC. This is a small number of strains compared to the 100 strains that can be contracted. The fact that a fraction of HPV strains are associated with CC is not coincidence but correlation. Which has been shown hundreds of times meaning high reproducibility and validity.

HPV does not cause cancer. The HPV most commonly found with cervical cancer (CC) are called high risk, less common, low risk
ALL HPV have been shown alone in various CC, 20% doesn't have HPV
Over 90% get rid of ALL HPV, even warts & dysplasia. HPV is a VERY COMMON mild infection & CC is VERY RARE
Cell Mediated Immunity (CMI) fights both cancer & HPV. Chronic HPV proves CMI isn't working properly, yet only 1 in 1000 chronic infections result in CC. That's not cause & effect, just coincidence

You are more likely to get the adverse side effects of the vaccine than get cervical cancer. Also, this vaccine prevents HPV infection which is sexually transmitted and known to be only ONE contributing cause of Cervical Cancer. Other causes of Cervical cancer are NOT prevented by this vaccine.

Reality check: There are usually no "obvious" signs of HPV infection. There are NO VISIBLE SIGNS of the high risk strains of HPV. The types of HPV that cause warts--which may or may not be visible--are not associated with a higher risk of cancer. Go read up. You are stunningly ignorant.

HPV is an STD. This commercial is for sexually active women (I suppose they don't care about penile cancer resulting from HPV). As most women showed here are little girls, or "deligent-looking" women, this commerical is stating that "girls and young women ages 9 to 25" have sex like there's no tomorrow. Gardasil is only a marketing tool. HAHAHAHA, what else is new?

That being said, I don't understand why having a sexual relationship before marriage is considered so inevitable in this country like sex is the plague you fall victim to rather than a choice you make. That opens a much bigger can of worms, but I just think this way this vaccine is portrayed as necessary and subsequently pushed on young girls as if virginity has a time limit is ridiculous (don't let my sign in name fool you, I am a woman so I have a vested interest in this subject).

HPV is spread by skin to skin contact. Not sexual contact alone. The HPV virus lives on the skin AROUND genitals and other places on the body. It's not simply unprotected sex that spreads HPV. That's why it is important to get vaccinated regardless. THAT, shannonsamuelc is not rocket science.

@ sarah: I dont know where you get your information, because HPV CANNOT be transmitted EXCEPT through SOME kind of sexual contact, you cannot just shake someones hand and get it, (check out HPV and "How do people get HPV" on CDC's website which confirms this), but its not JUST sex that can spread it, its any sexual contact, so youre right about that.

HPV is not present in all cervical cancer, but is so common it is present in most. Less than 1% of women chronically infected with HPV get cervical cancer. That is definitely NOT a cause and effect relationship

Please help me by viewing videos and spreading the word on these vaccines, in light of the recent death of Natalie Morton having had cancer jab, though they say it was malignant tumor, I maintain she would have been alive 2 leave school that day instead of dying in hospital only 2 hours & 15 minutes after receiving the jab, she collapsed after only 1 hour & 15 minutes.
My continued research shows she is not alone, with other deaths and thousands upon thousands of serious adverse reactions.

There is a very simple explanation for the "link" between HPV and cervical cancer (CC)
Chronic HPV only occurs in people whose cell mediated immunity (CMI) is compromised (Karolinska Institute, press release 2008). CMI not only attacks HPV it also attacks cancer. Cervical cancer (CC) appears very rarely (0.5%-0.8%), while HPV is comon
Chronic infection causes a lot of virus in cervical tissue. CC forms through mutation. CC cells are still infectable. This explains the link

You will have to give the actual paper that suggests this is coincidental, because the Karolinksa Institute in 2008 awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery that HPV causes cancer.
The basic failure in your postulate is that other forms of infection expected to be found in these tumors, such as herpes, are not.

Cervical cancer is cervical cells that won't stop growing. These same cells, when normal, are infected by HPV. Turning cancerous doesn't prevent the cells from being infected with HPV.
If these cells can be infected with other virus, they will be, if any are present. It is believed HPV infects cervical basal cells. I don' believe Herpes infects that type of cell, but is dormant in nerve tissue
