@LydeckerFan Yes, of course it's CGI. But in animation we use virtual cameras that operate almost identically to real-world cameras to stage the scenes. Hence the description. :)
@Sandor123 Many of Irwin Allen's vehicles (Jupiter 2, Spindrift, Seaview) are "larger" on the inside than the outside. The original Jupiter 2 - at 50 feet in diameter - could not possibly have two full decks as shown in the series. Similarly, the Flying Sub cannot reasonably fit into the Seaview submarine and still have space leftover for the control room above. It has been a fun hobby among modelers to reconcile these ships.
@Sandor123 The original pilot episode of Lost in Space used a different ship - The "Gemini 12 ." It was one-story and could have fit the interior set easily. When the show was picked up by CBS, the ship morphed into the "Jupiter 2" with 2 decks. The 2-deck interior was far too large to fit inside the old Gemini 12. But they had to re-use film footage from the original pilot to save money and so the design team slightly altered the Gemini 12 so fans wouldn't notice the differences.

@Haselius00 Oh I see. so he kind of umm cheated...lol. Thank you for the information. I always wondered how the landing gear and the space bus and the space pod AND the crew quarters could all fit Also looking through the window of the ship from the outside-in I thought the people were to tall to fit on 1 deck....lol. One other question. Weren't there 3 decks on the ship? I vaguely remember seeing an episode where there were 3 decks.
Um, you do realize that the bubble thing at the top of the ship was actually the bubble shaped flight navigator device that was lifted up through the roof of the saucer. Don't you?
I've always said that going up against 'Batman' was what ruined 'LiS'...they had to "dumb down" the show...which killed it. And, yes, J-2 had to be made larger..otherwise, you're flying a sardine can...too much equipment in too small a space.
I wish you folk well...you're off to one helluva great start!!
Super. The Jupiter Two is still one of the best looking space crafts around. Something to be said for 'less is more'. Land of the Giants Spindrift is my next favorite...
I Love It! Boy! I have to say, You did a good job on this video, I like how you had the crash doors open up showing the front view ports, Allso on the upper corner the NGS scanner even came up out of the hull of the Jupiter 2, As well as another instrument on the opposite side of the hull, Great Video!!
@JupiterProject1 Thanks! The new Jupiter 2 for the upcoming web series has been increased in size to nearly 100 feet. Go to LostInSpaceTheWebSeries to see the plans, photos and introduction video. Free site, but you just have to register to see the images.
@JupiterProject1 Yes, that never made sense to me, what happened to the lower level when they landed on soi lof a planet? and why didn't they use the pod to slow down the jupiter when they were about to crash into the sun, and how can you send a family into deep space and not have cities already on the moon with regular ships in orbit that could have rescued the jupiter? that show.. like much of the sixties... just didnt make sense .
Excellent work. I love the sound of the Jupiter 2 lifting off from inside the ship on Space Derelict. It to me is still the coolest space ship sound from any show. The visual effects of the Jupiter 2 entering the atmosphere and descending on Island in the Sky are still as cool as anything today. Star Trek couldn't touch it. Keep up the excellent work. If I wanted to buy a Jupiter 2 model that could be complete with lights which should I buy?
All of these videos are fantastic! I have never seen such percise modeling as yours. I am a huge Lost In Space fan, and one of the moderators at "Uncle Odie's Collectibles".
It's a website dealing primarily with all the Irwin Allen show (Very heavy on Lost In Space). You should really check us out. We'd love to showcase your excellent videos!
A new animation - the Launch of the Jupiter 2 - has been posted. It utilizes many of the clips I've already posted but adds quite a few more to tell a brief story of the ship's first flight. Click on my name above the video to find it. Thanks!
@Haselius00 That is just really nice, man. A friend of mine watched it yesterday, and while he said LIS wasn't a big fave of his, he always liked the J2 and he was floored by your animation, even more wowed that you used the original sound FX (which wows me too!) Oh I also saw your new video of the launch, as did my friend, and again, WOW! Keep up the good work!
I love the Jupiter 2 surface details and textures, not to mention the various sensors you created! Also your depth of space effect is awesome! It almost looks 3D!
Excellent! Very well done. Brings back great memories of the show when I was a kid. THANK YOU HASELIUS00!!!

Is it me or does the outside of the ship seem to be smaller than what it can hold inside?
Sandor123 5 months ago
@Sandor123 Yes, that's the famous "Irwin Allen Effect" LOL. I've developed a variation of the ship that works both inside and outside.

@Haselius00 Sir, why would Mr Allen not make the ships in the right porportions? This is just facinating

@sddweller I liked the Spindrift as well. Too bad it hardly ever flew in the show. I think my next favorite Irwin Allen ship was the Flying Sub.

Great job! The only thing I think the Jupiter Two needs to be twice the size of the original in order to accomodate the power core, shuttle craft.
