  • Using the stopwatch of my Casio calculator watch and my Samsung Series 5 Chromebook (plugged in) with a 25+ Mbps connection from Shaw Communications. All times start from one New Tab open and end until all flickering and loading completed. I am logged into associated accounts:

    5.46 secs YouTube

    15.5 secs Google News

    14.12 secs Google+

    6.7 secs Facebook

    2.6 secs Google.com

4 secs search of "chromebook" from omnibox

1 sec open New Tab (making two open)

    12.25 secs Gmail

    Google FAILbook

  • @evilturtle999 they built a c version and its faster than windows 7 lol bhahah your stop watch can be thrown in the bin now

  • @krishang3 "c version"? Are you talking about the Celeron? I hear the Chromebox is going to have an i5. Is this what you're talking about? The real problem is that Google didn't care enough to get it right the first time they released their product. But I don't think you're worth explaining to, by your reply. I have wasted too much time with Google and one of its Ninjas, hours and hours trying to "fix" my Chromebook. Google is fucking incompetent. I fucking hate them. I wish a Chromebook on you.

  • @evilturtle999 yeah thats kind of true but on the bright side its mainly made for people which stay on the internet half the time :) wndows 7 ultimate is just right for me:P but i also boot into android ics sometimes too:P

  • The real Chrome OS is...totally different. I've never seen so much grey in Chrome OS ever...And Chrome OS doesn't have that many animations...

  • I know a better idea for Chrome OS, Start making Android for desktops. Android is a big success so why dont use Android on a PC?

  • @pspatapon That's a really sucky idea.. Android and iOS and such operating systems are well adjusted for small mobile devices. But as a developer you are completly locked to a very small number of things, like programming language. The programming language used for Android is java, and the one for iOS is Objective-C. For android for example, there is very strict how activities work and its not suitable for a normal computer.

  • @stonetwig Not to mention there already is a lapdock OS. It'd be a little redundant.

  • how are you recording this ?

  • Android Honeycomb > Chrome OS, sorry.

  • é estranho, e talvez inovador

  • Zzzz Zzzzz zzz

  • thumbs up if you preffer windows 7 !!

  • @deiu9000 haha looks like they prefer chrome OS!! lol!!!

  • GLENS FUCKING Lauren!

  • I C SPAH!

  • ''Coffee with Big Boss"

    LoL

  • ...but what about the rum?

  • Erm.... how is Google dominating the world doing anything different to what Microsoft did throughout the latter part of the 90s and the early parts of the 2000s? Oh wait, they're offering practically everything for free. Ha. Besides, most people who use computers these days who aren't specifically designers or developers will benefit tremendously from this.

  • Perhaps this could be called Chrome Lite OS and they could bring out a more indepth full operating system that let's graphic designers, programmers and the like to rival the likes of Mac and Windows. I like Ubuntu too.

  • Does chrome os is acceptable with norton internet secuirity..?

  • Good luck google. Dominate the world.

  • love it.

  • Comment removed

  • @fuzzytweezers yes 90% of the market...

  • gay

  • @awesomestarish You know what? GET A LIFE, GO MESS WITH SOME OTHER VIDEO. >:(

  • This video was made before Chrome 11!

  • i have a window based netbook at the moment which i use to watch youtube and email ..basic stuff...i hate when it take for ever for my 1g/ram netbook so long to boot so i can be on the net (i never use it offline) this chromebook is perfect for ME. if i wonted to play game id get a desktop to do that.. its not a game machine or an office computer..you have all miss the point...and to poeple saying use linux..what netboook can you buy that comes with more the 1g of ram in it

  • Preliminary requirements from Chromium.org

"you must have Linux to develop Chromium OS. Specifically, the environment is: Ubuntu Linux (v10.04 -Lucid).

LOL They are just Taking something FREE and selling it to you!! And you can't even save your own data. And what happens when you DON'T have internet access but you need that essay or document?? Hahaha.

This is stupid. Just fancy advertisement/marketing.

PEOPLE USE LINUX. IT'S FREE. AND THE BEST. DON'T FALL FOR MARKETING GIMMICKS.

  • @DimitrisMPapadakis um... chrome os is also FREE

  • @INT41O don't bother he is greek witch automatically makes him a faggot

  • @oliball123 okay... that is both racist and offensive to gays

  • @bowpronouncebow exactly

  • @INT41O Linux, is also free

  • @DimitrisMPapadakis Dude, look into the future, you are a few years away from worldwide WiFi access, payed from taxes in every country.. And the future appears to be open-source, which is Chrome OS as well: FREE

    (Noob)

  • Yeah fools. Put ALL your personal Files and details on Google's servers. Yeah...

BTW this is just a very well marketed Linux Distro with Google's logo on it. You don't believe me? Just check out Wikipedia and even Google in the Chrome OS documentation admits it is Unix-based on linux... HAHAH blah... I'm goign for Ubuntu. And I Get to Keep my Files. And It's free. Plus I can do about a billioin other things with my computer, should the need or desire comes. YOU'LL BE STUCK.

  • @DimitrisMPapadakis the OS is free

  • So all these demos of Chrome OS show you how you will have the ability to read your emails and view a calendar, something I can just do in Yahoo Mail!

Can I open iTunes in Chrome OS, what about play Call of Duty or my old Football Manager games? can I use Chrome OS with Eclipse to do my Java development, what about Apache Tomcat or mySQL?

Or can I just use it to browse the Internet and read emails?

  • @kpsuk It's the beginning of something new. To be honest, it makes absolute perfect sense for everything to be web based.

What's the point in having so much dedicated memory/hardware locally, when internet speeds are making it more efficient to have a concentrated source of technology that we can all tap into. For example, it's not unrealistic (and I think I read somewhere) that we could have a dedicated server that just streams the video/audio of a computer game to your browser.

  • @kpsuk (cont.)

in response to your controls. This would be identical to playing it locally, but removes the need to have a beastly graphics card.

The possibilities are endless, and I for one will embrace the change if it is to occur.

  • @kpsuk why the fuck would you want to open itunes in anything?

  • @ignika98 I wouldn't but a lot of people do, just trying to understand what this OS (which looks more like a glorified website of menus) can actually do if nothing is stored locally.

If all it's good for is browsing the internet & reading emails, it serves no purpose.

  • Guy looks Asian... cool

  • Maybe bartoszbudz needs a stronger imagination. The point is, you're not going to be offline between the wifi and the 3G.

  • beside from the fact that you need a constant internet connection, this looks really useful on netbooks with 3G. Rather than those useless "tablets' that are meant for... well I don't rly know tbh xd

  • @umairyc i heard that in the chrome OS comps, you get like 16 Gbs worth of space to save it on your own computer. The rest of the stuff is saved to the cloud. or something across that line, i don't quite remember :)

  • Well i would be reluctant to store all the porn collection i have ... on the web!!

  • @umairyc isnt it already on the web :P ?

  • is this the future? everything stored on the internet? you don't have privacy anymore? Theres no more cd, memory cards, hard drives? lets say someone hacks google's network all of your data gone in seconds and no proof that you bought this or that. So in the future, the whole world will be a wifi zone or else your phone, laptop is useless

  • @WhatThePresidentSays anyone who could hack chrome DESERVES your information, simply for being the shit

  • Hi Glen.

  • @Bens4ever lmao I was going to say that !

  • here you can see tabs i had open today. SHIT porn -_- emmmm..... okay, fuck am fired

  • I wantz one. Chromium for business. PC for games. Mac for production. Fair game, y'all.

  • It's a good though but I don't think it will be a hit. personally I just got to have a desktop where i can change the pictures and stuff like that. Great video thou.

  • *who are not "more advanced", sorry ;)

  • WHAT IF YOU HAVE NO INTERNET?

  • @jakeo96 lol another point that chrome OS IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE USELESS !

  • @jakeo96 its useless

  • @jakeo96 you always will have internet

  • you're better off to get a decent linux distro like ubuntu or mint than chrome because if you're offline then you won't be able to do anything like listen to music

  • If I had Chrome OS, I would spend all of my time looking for the minimize and close buttons.

  • if you want fast boot with decent features.... use linux...

but I think Chrome OS would be a nice 5th OS on my laptop. I will definitely install it.

  • Is like money if an automatic moneyspenderformbank (cajeroautomatico) you wont be able to buy things.

When money that were save under our bed pass to the banks. :)

but money is the same for everyone, our information is not the same...

i am fine the old way :D

    sorry my english

  • thumbs up if you got here by looking up

    "evh v3i 23i c2v uic"

  • @qharjo naah. chrome ftw.

  • I'm using my CR-48. What happened to being able to go into overview mode? Or move panels to the side of the screen?

  • If Chrome OS could incorporate something like Firefox 4's Panorama organizer, it'd be a lot cooler. TabCloud is a pretty good extension for similar functionality, but it just isn't as slick as Panorama's "Tab Candy". Also, if you're missing the application tab, load up the AppJump extension, which sticks an app button in your extensions area, and also allows you to group your apps logically. Only problem with AppJump is that the groups don't sync between computers :/

  • Is it better than Mozilla?

  • I'm sorry but this is just stupid, Google should stick to being a search engine, let apple, Microsoft, and Linux work with software, and let me keep my local storage.

  • @iPoder9008 Google Chrome OS is not actually a operating system, it is a software system where the Linux is the operating system. And Google Chrome is open source and it can be developed by F/OSS community as well in Chromium project, from what the Google takes snapshots to Google Chrome.

  • @iPoder9008 Dear god no. Microsoft Windows simply SUCKS from a design perspective. The underlying architecture is horribly laid out, prone to errors and security vulnerabilities.

Mac is better coz it's based on the BSD kernel, but Apple's ONLY goal is to make money so they take technology backwards.

And as for chrome the browser, it was the best thing to happen to the Internet. And their work on V8 and NativeClient was so damn impressive and ingenious that they SHOULD lead the world everything!

  • @shocklateboy Sorry but i disagree like one person said on here what if you don't have internet then it's pretty much useless not that the idea is bad it's just impractical i mean i can see why people would want to use this but overall it just doesn't work for every one like me who has weird internet it wouldn't work for me

  • @iPoder9008 Okay I'll admit the use cases are slim atm. Netbooks are meant to be portable and that means the internet won't always be available. But I'm sure they'll implement *proper* offline support for everything before this is released. (keep an open mind)

I defended this so much is because of how impressed I was with what they've done 'under the hood'. And I'm sure if Google does decide to create an OS that would compete with Windows/Mac, they would kick Apple/Microsoft's ass!

  • @iPoder9008 I know, that was a big problem for me when the removed support for google gears. But it's okay they seem to be bringing proper HTML5 offline support soon, so a lot of their services (eg. Gmail, Google Docs) will run without internet.

And once you do get reconnected, it'll sync your changes to the cloud completely transparently.

And trust me, I'm a full time Linux user and personally, I very much prefer Client Apps much more than Web Apps, but that doesn't mean they are *stupid*.

  • @MatheusMK3 but the question is if i will be able to log in to the os without access to the Internet

  • coffee with Big Boss

  • all linux OS boots faster than Win or Mac. On my HP I boot Ubuntu in just 15 seconds

  • @gnze796 Debian with KDE 4 boots in 10 seconds, Linux Systems are not beatable

  • @JETBLAST88 citiation needed here. kde 4 takes 10 seconds to load at least, you can't boot that fast. if you can, please let me know how.

  • @sonay1986 under 10 seconds to boot (maybe 6?) PLUS load KDE

  • @JETBLAST88 ok, how do you do that? I am using e4rat, even that it is not that low?

  • LOLOL 1:20 MAC OS X ICONS XD

  • watch?v=GwBO_VSd4dY

  • I would like to see some of these featured that got put on the shelf be implemented in Chrome OS.

  • Comment removed

  • Can someone please make this concept a reality?!

  • It is an insult to windows, Mac OS, and linux OSes. Poor thing, they all thought OS is not just a browser. So as rest of the world. How dumb are we, I am glad that Chromium is coming out and opened our eyes widely and talking about booting time of a "browser" and comparing it with Windows and other OS platforms. How lame.

  • How can he do this stuff? Why does it look like that? I'm using a two-day-old dev channel build of Chrome OS on my Cr-48 and it looks and acts in a manner COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from this! This would be awesome! Why don't they use this instead?

  • @proxythe1337 You can pin a tab by right-clicking it(two-finger click). I don't know how to sidebar a panel though, which is something I'd love.

  • Thank you google for my new laptop. I'll make sure I provide lots of feedback. When I get it!

  • I don't like how they got rid of the chrome menu, by moving "apps" to the new tab page, for two reasons.

    1) it's inconvenient

    2) it makes my chrome laptop look like an iPad, and i hate apple!

  • @Koman92040 How is it inconvenient? The new tab page is just as many clicks away as a Chrome menu would be, and the actual page looks more or less the same. They put a lot of functionality into a single page, and the two have identical uses, so why two pages for the same thing?

  • The end of useful client software is nigh. Long live the bareboned, reduced and slow APPPSSS. People get so used to Internet, that they don't know what a good application is.

  • WOWOWOWOW!!! IT'S FAR BETTER THAN MAC OS X!!!! THAN WINDOWS!!! But unfortunately, it isn't offline OS, it is cloud OS... BUT IT IS VERY VERY EXCITING OS!!!

  • @aryatololHTF you know you can use it offlinee o_o

  • But can you use apps made by other companys??

  • I find it ironic how the cursor looks a lot like Vista / 7's cursor.

  • This is the first non-unix based computer OS ive ever seen!

  • @Branuelmo wait... how do you know it's non-unix based? it's based on the linux kernel, and linux is unix-based... right?

  • lol 1:10

    "Critique random people's cupcakes"

"Pretend to go to the gym"

    XD

  • What's with your mouse?....It moves perfectly lol

  • @qaz474 probably programmed the mouse to move that way in the making of the video.

  • @dmonopoly But how?

  • I buy it except for the argument that cr-48 is "built around the core tenets of speed, simplicity and security" - yes, but if cr-48 defines a cutting edge, we've got big problems with cr-48 which needs a significant hardware upgrade. Ppl like developers, architects, computer gamers and the like are looking to the GOOG / ATI / Global Foundries trio to provide. The only real product on the gaming market alone is Steam which remains greatly lacking + we haven't even put up a security suite... .

  • google is going to take over the world in about 8 seconds

  • Linux is for nerds. loljk

Most games are made for windows and i dont like unnecessarily messing around so I stick with something simple. I do mess around for fun but using linux as a primary os is just plain silly.

  • @SPARTANB064 I've been using Linux (Ubuntu) for years and I don't think it's silly at all. Games are way better on PS3 or XBox360, so I really don't see the need for windows.

  • @Eikus89 haha console tard. jk Games are better on pc, have you ever heard of Crysis? or Halo Custom Edition? Games are NOT "way better" on consoles (most of the time) so basically Windows is the best choice. Or some crappy laggy Windows emulator for Linux.

    hohoho

  • @Eikus89 oh and I forgot photoshop, flash pro, and CAD programs and various other applications.

You'll need 3dsmax or milkshape to mod halo.

  • @SPARTANB064 There's "Gimp" for photo manipulation, "Blender" for 3D graphics and I know I've heard of a linux CAD program (I've never used Flash Pro, so I don't know what it's for). But why the fuck would I want to mod Halo? I may be nerdy, but I'm not THAT nerdy. :P Besides, I don't play Halo or Crysis, and I don't want to either. But the main reason I don't want Windows is because I don't want to support a non-free operating system (btw windows is, unlike linux, very buggy and annoying).

  • @Eikus89 since when was windows buggy and annoying? I have xp and it's fine unless you do something really idiotic and screw up. Linux has driver issues. Plus everyone knows GIMP sucks. Photoshop is better.

    However, blender is cool.

And how the FUCK do you not know what Flash is for??? Animation, ads, games, web apps, etc.

  • @Eikus89 well, i dont pay for my copys of windows. hell, the major university of my country doesnt buy thier copys of windows, they just burn them from torrents!

  • I hear Chrome OS is linux based. WOOT!

  • love to see this in a nettop ie a really small low energy desktop . would be great as cheap home pc as cheap hardware and no software like word needed, would also be great in libarys , and stuff too love to see a nettop what do you think?

  • This demo makes Chrome OS look better than it really is. (yes, i have a cr-48)

  • @masterchief3k How is the cr-48 and chrome os?

  • new and better idea...BING OS,

  • they have just integrated some of the linux stuff into Chrome

  • Well, I can't imagine that my netbook is offline and I can't listen to music or watch the video. Chrome (browser) is really cool, but as an OS it sucks. I can't imagine that I can't store data on MY OWN COMPUTER.

  • @bartoszbudz but redundant backups on servers on a cloud... would in effect be better in case your Hard-Drive explodes. I'm sure there would be an implementation for storing music and videos on the device. And if not, an app that works in chrome can access the local storage on the device.

  • @Adromeda90210 Of course there are some advantages of the presented solution but I'm not sure if I will get used to feeling that device that I paid for isn't really mine.

  • @bartoszbudz In theory, you can, just as we saw on the OS demo, it recognizes USB devices (like cameras, etc), so we just have to get an External HDD and be happy! =D

  • @bartoszbudz What makes you think it can not store data? Perhaps you do not understand that it only hard stores the main components such as browser and etc. You can still save anything you like. The fact is, for most people, this makes computers a whole lot more powerful, even though its simplified. For folks like gamers and developers, that is another store, but they are not the masses. What COS does is make a computer, out of the box, that does what 90% of people do, without all the overhead.

  • @N0rthwestRadio So the best way to be sure that your data will be available when it's gonna be needed is not to use the feature that makes COS different from any other OS? So what's the point of having it? For people who are "more advanced" users it is another thing to worry about (Is my data on my HDD or in the Internet now?). It is simple, that's for sure, but I'm just not convinced that it's the best solution. And what will you do when particular server with your data will be down?

  • @bartoszbudz you could always store some music on a flash drive, or on your phone, this OS is not meant for people who do important things outside the web, the facebook, youtube crowd

  • @bartoszbudz You have it COMPLETELY wrong. CrOS supports---and has supported since its inception--the playback of local content, e.g. saved PDFs or downloaded MP3s and videos. At the same time, it maintains a progressive outlook with its forward-thinking concepts and UI, to name only a few areas in which Chrome excels.

  • @bartoszbudz of course you can!

  • if you cant store video and music and play that without online connection..

then this will be fail simuliar as in Google wave.

also this looks like a rip-off from JoliCloud 1.0 (linux)

except they realized that ppl. want "My documents folders" and also to use it on more than just netbooks.

  • My name's Brett Domino and I'm 26 years old from Leeds, and I want to show you Chrome OS.

  • running on a netbook, would this require internet access at all times, or can we run it offline as well?

  • Google.

    You're awesome. I love you.

    -James

  • it will be better as only a web browser than a operating system

  • sorry but people who say apples are better are right...i dont use apples because they are ripping off the users but still Mac OS is still a far superior UI over google os...might be bloated but still looks nicer...image is everything with apple so its easier to use...price is okay with pcs but windows is becoming too expenssive now...might settle for google os because of price not because its better...clients arent savvy enough for linux sorry...google os might win next if they sell G'OS cheap

  • if i lose internet for a period, what should i do with this os?

  • critique random people's cupcakes lol

  • *cough* sony *cough* quickboot *cough*

  • @bmw2go11 it was still garbage and friggen slow compared to this.

  • oops can't run ms office~

  • @mgood2 Google docs are better anyways

  • i want to buy this may i know the release date of the notebook in Singapore? :D thx

  • Have fun with a useless computer when you cannot acces the internet.

I'm not the most informed person about this, but this is just igoogle the OS version for me

  • I don't get it.. I use photoshop for creating webbpages everyday.. So how the fuck am i going to do all this if i can't store anything on the computer? Say that i want to play some game's, like, COD.. How can i do that, if i can't store the program on my computer? Is the idea that Chrome OS is the computer that i use when i just want to sur or samthing, and when i have to work, or play games or something, i use my PC?

  • @FreddiefredFredfred so means chrome os isn't for you this is not a full OS

  • @FreddiefredFredfred chrome is just for people who browse the web, check emails, and other media. its mostly for on-the-go people

  • @FreddiefredFredfred No worries, well there are some concerns...there is no real hd on the chrome os,yes. however the concept is to essentially get rid of all the things that slow down your computer and have you work and save your work on a network, i.e the cloud. All your work documents, word, access, notepad, excel ect, including games and other programs are save on a network. This allows you to access your files where ever you have the chrome web browser installed...hope that helped!!

  • @FreddiefredFredfred Then Chrome OS is not for you. This is mostly for mobile people who use netbooks. Nobody said Chrome OS will replace Windows or Mac completely, just in the mobile netbook market. Not everyone uses Photoshop or play CoD, so this is perfect for them.

  • @TeraPeoPunjabi Microscum rules in making an new visual cover to an operating system that has existed for 10 years. Microscum is a dead company Windows is on its way out deal with it.

  • Ewww...its so....UTILITARIAN! Gah! Wheres my Ubuntu!

  • to me if something in my IT world is not synchronised with all, it is of no use.

I would rather have a simple system that is integrated, than one with various different platforms, translations, downloads. Everything before google looked complicated but was was micky mouse Whilst google might look micky mouse it strives for function over form. I can use google to build a LIFESTYLE with IT as a tool not an annoying thorn I can't quite do without.

  • Eh...I prefer Ubuntu to this:/

  • wow Apple's Lala

  • Yawn, meh, feh...

Watch the pretty colors folks... oh and for the person below Fuck Microsoft as well.

Microsoft: the company that taught Google how to be an asshole.

  • Chrome OS is really only for people who don't know anything about computers. My Ubuntu 10.10 boots-up in about 7 sec, and i can use it when there is not Internet connection XD. I wanna see someone use Chrome OS without Internet connection, does it even boot without a Internet connection?

  • @Shift035 Lol. This is whats going to be in all the school computers in a couple years.

  • @Shift035 actually yes it does! Google chrome os also includes google gears. And with a Solid state harddrive you still can act as a normal computer would... save, load, download anything you want too it. When an internet connection isent detected it will use google gears... This allows you to basically save to the google servers as soon as a connection becomes available! So... Thank google for thinking of everything. And this is not a Microsoft solution... its more of a newer way to compute.

  • @Shift035 Some parts of it can be used offline, like Google Docs. More offline apps are going to be made before the launch of Chrome OS.

  • So weird that the UI is completely different to the demo video that was posted a day after this xD

  • Cuando salga me avisan ehh! jajaja

  • i dont get it. isnt it basically just ubuntu apps?

  • How do you screen record in chrome os? :\

  • @TipsfromTech ever heard of screenjelly? an online screen recorder so yea

  • @thetechanator oh..ok thanks :D

  • Me want

  • @McIntyGames e\u wan wat??

  • @scarshealedbymusic yes if you dual boot ur computer with ur current os and chrome os then they will still be accessible when ur on ur first os. But if ur talking about a full os replacement you probably wont be able to do this unless Google adds a sort of transition helper or allows files to be stored on your computer (while using the internet for backups of course ;) )

  • if i was using a computer for nothing but business work i would choose this
