Think this song on the album is good? See them live=incredible! If this was all they played it would have beenworth the price...did anyone else see him in Philadelphia?
if you tilt your head to the left sideways it looks an alien talking about its home planet. Chris Potter is amazing see him people will at Monterey Jazz Festival. What is this group called and what album is this song, "The Wheel", on?
i think you're thinking of that thing where he does the same thing over all the things you are...you can get that on the internet somewhere if you dig a little
chris potter is an unbelievable. This solo in this video and in the next is unbeliable. It is so good I don't care how bad the video quality is. You won't find many jazz saxaphone players that are this good and this hip!!
It's not ENOUGH to just read music. You have to know it too. Just because some don't benefit from reading a lot of music doesn't mean it won't help you. Most benefit from reading. Knowing the music comes into the picture but does not eliminate the usefulness of written music. If you are going to read a lot of music, it is important that you strive to understand and get a feel for it. It's more than notes on a page. This doesn't mean you should throw out your books.
he definitely does not own an omnibook...he says its not about reading the stuff, but really KNOWING the stuff, and playing it with the right feeling...I personally am gonna take that advice
I don't want to turn my comments section into a debate but I would like to point out that although I agree wholeheartedly that it is about knowing it and feeling the music, most of us don't have the immense natural gifts/talents that Chris has (and had at a young age apparently) so it won't hurt you to get an omnibook.
My sax teacher told me that he saw Potter playing basically the entire Omnibook memorized at the age of 13...rediculous. Unfortunately these cats go overseas alot. If they were more appreciated, then maybe they'd tour around the midwest states more so I could get a chance to see guys like him.
He is pretty incredible. I saw him at the saxophone symposium on Saturday, January 6, 2007. My friends and i heard him play three times. What a virtuoso
then what...

i've got a recording of him playing All the things you are by himself. 12 minute improvisation through the chords, no backing. It's amazing.

He has it memorized. He doesn't need it.
Him, Adam Rogers, Craig Taborn, Scott Colley and Brian Blade are playing at the 55 Bar in September. Have to go Check that out.

It shows you just how good he is when people will watch a sideways, half-obscured video of him shot from under a table and not complain.

Potter is surely one of the most gifted tenor sax players since Michael Brecker. His sound is amazing. Thanks for the video.
