I plant pumpkins too before and that is what we call direct cross pollination, but when we chose the male flower, we choose the one that is almost opening. I haven't tried the flower that already opened if it works
That was very informative - do I also dispose of unwanted pumpkins to reduce the stress on the vine? In other words - Do I limit the vine to one fruit?
@Wicka1957 good ? when you have ur main pumpkin established, yes remove any other ones right away i even pluck the female blooms they rob alot of your nutrition, say u pulled 5 little pumpkins off and look at ur main pumpkin and think of how much bigger ur main one could of been if those didnt grow...
What are the soil requirements? Ph levels? Feeding levels ? etc Any good hard specifics? I just bought some Atlantic Giant pumpkin seeds...I'm going to give this a try!
@best333WillC Hey, I just read your comment, and I know that its from 7 months ago... but, Im thinking about trying to grow some Dill's Atlantic Pumpkins, and after reading your comment I was a little curious if you had any success with the ones you grew? So, any luck and or advice? Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks....
I live in New Zealand and have recently grown an atlantic giant pumpkin. It grew to 29 kgs which is no where near the size of this pumpkin.how can i grow a monster for next years pumpkin comp.thanks
This is wonderful info, I am in love with Giant pumpkins, I made the news here in Spain with mine although it was my first time! LOL! They weren't as large as this one , they were rather long:)
When should I start getting rid of the extra pumpkins. Also which one should I go with, the first one (biggest so far), or wait until the other ones get growing?

Mine grew fast, and my Ph is 5.5. So keep it a hair acidic, not as much as me though x_x

That is an awesome pumpkin! Wish I had the space in my garden for that. Good tips on manually pollinating them too!

Dills Atlantic Giant is the variety to plant. The little pumpkins about baseball size you pull off are delicious sliced, battered and fried.

Very helpful thank you for posting. I live in Sacramento CA we get temps over a 100 in summer. How can I keep the fruit from getting sun damage?
