Terry Gilkyson and the Easy Riders released an album with a song called Quit Kickin' My Dog Around, in the late 50s. Terry's song was obviously inspired by this song, but his had completely different lyrics. His chorus went:

You can carve me up with a Bowie knife,

You can steal my wife,

But if you love your life,

Quit kickin' my dog around.

My folks had this on a 78 when I was a kid, by Gid Tanner and His Skillet Lickers with Riley Puckett on the Banjo. I loved the name of the group as much as I loved the song. I guess I haven't heard it in maybe 55 years. Thanks for posting.

How appropriate to show this old cartoon! Man, they used to show these "silent" cartoons with music on TV back in the 50's and 60's when I was a kid in Atlanta. But not today, no sir! Most of this stuff is buried under a pile of politically-correct manure.
