I got really worried being short a few months ago. Ben just dumped money in to set the rate higher - obviously my short got rocked - but his plan has failed and it has dropped huge.
Bonds aren't supposed to move 10% in a month - it is not like a company missing earnings.
Keep an eye on the bonds for China pulling back more and Ben searching for someone to buy $2Trillion this year.
The doomsday talk does seem to have come down a touch but I don't really know what has changed. I am sure in the background the big guys are unwinding the derivatives market - not too sure what other business is going on.

Very true.........not too long ago MOT got caught up in the exitment as the DOW went down and he predicted the DOW at 5,000.......never happened, not even close.
I am talking with respect to specific predictions and spreading fear. At the time of MOT's statement, the DOW was heading down fast and his prediction was to fall to 5,000....no, even 4,500 was mentioned. The gong show may or may not be over, but MOT was wrong on that account, that is what my comment was all about.

I'm trying to assist two men who were in the service during the Vietnam war. Not wanting to judge them or their past efforts; just wanting to understand how they find themselves in the situation they're in.
With expenses around $400 and no where to spend money, they could save between $12,000 -15,000. Three years of service would give them as much down payment on a house as I did after 27 years of working 70 hour weeks. Not a bad way to go for a three year commitment.

All things considered, MOT seems to be in a good mood. I find it interesting that the media seems to be looking for some way to cause a panic. Now, it's the threat of pandemic from Mexico. In a few weeks, it will be something else. Of course, all of this is meant to keep everyone off an even keel, causing many of us to run to the state for relief in times of crisis. That's not say any relief will be delivered, however. The state of the world is quite a mess. This is only the beginning.

Well MOT, as a recently retired army soldier, I would have to ask you, have you ever been in the military? You say joining the military is not "service"? well, if you think a private being paid $1400 a month, to sit in the destert for 12-15 months wondering if they will ever get home, no car, no girlfriend, no night clubs, movie theaters (real ones) no freedom, no civilian clothes, what do you call that for $1400 a month, not know ing if your going home? But don't slam the military, they are the least paid, with the hardest job. In America, there's really no true "service on any scale according to your definition" even church's pay thier employees. Please spell them out so I can get a better picture of what that compensation means. how many years do they serve for lifelong entitlements? my neighbors have been evicted and I'm giving up my main house to them for an affordable rent. They are ex-military on SSI, military retirement pay, and Fed housing assistance. Just wondering how much I really need to subsidize them even more in these times?

Well, I think your being cynical, I mean, if you want to spend 15 months sweating in the desert, with your life threatened, away from friends and family, and consider $1400 a month in disposible income something to get excited about, then the rest of your question is not worth answering, so I'll just say this, no they have to buy thier own toiletries, clothes, footgear, cigarettes, ect. Yes, they can probably get by with $400 a month because food and shelter are free...maybe you should join them

I'm trying to assist two men who were in the service during the Vietnam war. Not wanting to judge them or their past efforts; just wanting to understand how they find themselves in the situation they're in.
With expenses around $400 and no where to spend money, they could save between $12,000 -15,000. Three years of service would give them as much down payment on a house as I did after 27 years of working 70 hour weeks. Not a bad way to go for a three year commitment.
