i used to be in the us army as air defense and noone should ever question the capabilities of any armed whether french, german, etc.. if you have not served on the force than you dont know what they can do. trust me when i say most civilians dont know the own capabilities of their own military especially the us armed forces. there are things i know that would put most of you at awe.

@mbj73 The Marines were in the frontal assault on Kuwait through the minefields. If they had been ordered to cover the flanks we would have. You do not have to falsely belittle another service to enhance the Legion; they are legend on their own.

@retek666999 What is important in French Guyane? This is the ONLY European settlement for our Space Program at Kourou. The European Space operations are totally dependent on us because there is no other country in Europe which has such facilities near the Equatorial line. If we lost Guyane, we will be totally dependent on the US or Russia to send our stuff up there. There is eventually gold in the forest but the French are rather fighting the traffic than enjoying from these treasures.

There are two regiments in Guyane: the 3rd Foreign Infantry regiment (only tasked with securing the Space facilities in Kourou and supervising the Legion training in rain forest) and the 9th French Marine Infantry regiment. With the French Gendarmerie, they are fighting against immigrations and trafiquants.
Most of those pictures are from regular French Army units. For instance, helicopters are in the ALAT, transports planes in the Airforce. This video is good but rather about French Military than the Legion itself.

@mbj73 Seriously? We parked a Marine Division in the Persian Gulf as a decoy, because Saddam knew he would get absolutely destroyed by a division full off bored and pissed off Marines. The Main body of the coalition drove north and swept through south west iraq and then pushed east, creating a pincer, isolating the iraqi ground forces. There were no large iraqi military defenses in the far west or iraq. Not dissing the Legion. I know anciens and have worked with them, respect is well deserved!

@mbj73 The Marines were in the frontal assault on Kuwait through the minefields. If they had been ordered to cover the flanks we would have. You do not have to falsely belittle another service to enhance the Legion; they are legend on their own.

I am not going to criticise anybody for what they did or did not do in Kuweit. From what I've read, all the allied forces did a good job. As far as @mbj73's way of expressing himself is concerned, I suppose he only talks like that because English is not his native tongue.

I always pay attention to the small red line indicating a misspelled word and appeal for help to the dictionary, if it's necessary. No "hit or miss" when you use a foreign language(not tongue, as you say. LOL).
I think we all should act like this, respect each other and this world could be a better place to live))

French legion does not work with other armies,legions. It's like a family,and you will never know where they are. But there is some BASIC information where they are,google "french legion"

I'm a patriot and I like all about military (from France and elsewhere, I'm not narrow-minded lool). But I'm not in the army (one day? God knows) and I've never been in Guyane but my uncle is Gendarme and was already sent there. He just hated the place: mosquitos, heat, and one of his friend has the marsh fever despite vaccination.

@retek666999 I don't know about the busy and dead seasons for the Legion ^^ But go to my friends list and look for PATNOCO, he is an former Legionnaire (from the 2nd Foreign Engineer regiment), he will answer you far better than me.
Anyway congratulations for your project, this is a hard line to follow, but nevertheless, the bravest one.

The truth is that i wanted to be jetpilot but i was be busted on the final health test ("long-term focusing and balancing and etc in one" test). The above mentioned school is the strongest middle european business school but i'm feel shit so I wanna blow out the shit of my mind at the Legion :-).

I live in samar islands one of Npa strong hold . There is no media reporting there but there are lots of ambushes by NPA., and overrunning the military checkpoint. But hope new government will solve it in a peaceful solution. God bless (kabayan). Im also half-pilipino and chinese

well indeed they experience in Brazillian jungle, but southern Philippines (mindanao) is much worse than Brazilian jungle and more rebel than Brazil . it is a home of Different Muslim group. 1. MNLF Moro National Liberation Front (15,000 rebels), MILF Moro Islamic Liberation Front (30,000 + rebels), NPA New Peoples Army (10,000 rebel), Abu Sayaff Group Terrorist, Jamiah Islamiyah..This is the true battle ground..... and the training ground of Jamiah Islamiyah..Maybe you can help us....

@jungoico Mindanao is nowhere as intense as the Brazilian jungle. I'm half philippino, i lived in philippines for a while. I know the area and watched the media. The media/news in the philippines constantly make mistakes. U.S. forces are deployed out in the mindanao region. I have info on this but cannot release more.

Also dont forget the NPA strong hold Davao, nueva ecija, samar island..Rebel scattered all over the philippines even in bulucan 10 kilometers from Manila.

@retek666999 What is important in French Guyane? This is the ONLY European settlement for our Space Program at Kourou. The European Space operations are totally dependent on us because there is no other country in Europe which has such facilities near the Equatorial line. If we lost Guyane, we will be totally dependent on the US or Russia to send our stuff up there. There is eventually gold in the forest but the French are rather fighting the traffic than enjoying from these treasures.

@retek666999 Not the gold. The French State doesn't exploit it itself but the "trafiquants" (don't know the word, people doing illegal business) are spoiling the forest looking for gold. There are two regiments in Guyane: the 3rd Foreign Infantry regiment (only tasked with securing the Space facilities in Kourou and supervising the Legion training in rain forest) and the 9th French Marine Infantry regiment. With the French Gendarmerie, they are fighting against immigrations and trafiquants.

Most of those pictures are from regular French Army units. For instance, helicopters are in the ALAT, transports planes in the Airforce. This video is good but rather about French Military than the Legion itself.

Good idea, but its HARD, I joined almost 40 years ago and served for 8, The ranch is a nightmare, the lieutenants didn't let us sleep the first week, i think we slept an hour or two, the only funny moment was the hazing to the newbies, they make us strip and walk in line grabbing each other dicks, if someone gets a boner the other guys beat him up, fortunately I didn't get one so I has the chance to beat other guys.
