You say that as if you have proof that all game companies will honor this kind of deal or more that their lawyers care, your nativity makes me kinda want to cry... this has a chance of ruining LP's and it goes beyond that, If you put a full band over on youtube you could face jail time, when before that covers were protected. This bill is far too reaching and extends way beyond just LP, it needs to be re-worded.

Cover songs would be covered under this law, 12 years olds doing karaoke on youtube would be effected and LP-ers could be effected as well go to the Video Hundar spoke of if you want a more in depth break down, much more in depth than what I can fit in a character limited box. He speaks on the subject for like 15 minutes, also Shiryuken(dot)com did an article with a gaming lawyer detailing the laws far reaching effects.

@ByronicWriter I understand. The video that was referred to in the video was alarmist and extrapolating "what if" scenarios. I have watched that and read the article you mention. I've also read the exact wording of the bill.

To be blunt, people crying about the sky falling get a lot more attention than sane reasoning. The bill doesn't change what's considered copy-written material, it makes it criminal and extends it to "public performances." It doesn't change any wording that attacks gaming.

@ByronicWriter I did read the bill, in fact that's what was on those sheets of paper's in front of me in the shoot. All I saw was 2 amendments that basically add the wording of making pre-existing violations "criminal" instead of civil, and adding "or public performance". All info was pulled from opencongress org.

It doesn't change any right companies already have to claim right to their material. It doesn't add any wording that changes a demonstration to a public performance.

Unlike current copyright infringement cases, which are Civil and require some entity to suffer damages, by making the act Criminal, you do NOT have to prove damages to convict. No company has to be hurt for you to still commit a felony, and be arrested for it.

Just because the Bill is not aimed to cause copyrighted infringement for video-game letsplays, it can also damage the karaoke style videos of people preforming songs, to songs that are copyrighted as well. This Bill will cause unnecessary lawsuits, not from the companies who own the copyright, but from the government itself. There will be cases of unfair lawsuits/criminality for people who post a video dance to a #1 seller, or a video of a gameplay.

@Cowpwnz First of all, there's no need for derogatory terms for no reason. When you go to the Emerald Dream it's just part of a quest line, not the actual patched maps for it. I was talking about an expansion dedicated to the storyline of the Nightmare that exists inside of the Emerald Dream (which is an actual historical part of the lore), not the quest-line that involves it. It is patched over, but the Emerald Dream is actually a place that has been made, but barely anybody's been there.

The point that I got from DSP was that no-one actually knows how to interpret the law in the current state. It is so hard to determine how much financial damage is done. Basically, no-one knows what will happen in the end, and we'd rather not risk this one possible outcome. Also, With a criminal offence, is it up to the violated person to prosecute?

From a gaming perspective, I see this bill have 0 impact. The music community should be up in arms, not gamers.

At present the law has very little effect because it actually does very little. This will, at the very least, make people panic and worry, especially if they are uninformed, and might slow or stop their uploads out of fear.

What we need is fewer vague definitions and more clarity in what it will do. Uncertainty, if not genuine risk, may well shut down good people.
