  • I love it when the judge uses the "ding" or the "buzzer" in order to actually speak with Dick after the round is over.

  • how bout a spinoff, what not to do in password

  • @trent100100 I think it's already on YT, provided by Blackwood Company. Check it out.

  • Does anyone else think she actually said "cold cut meats?" It sounded just now like I heard that.

  • The category was PEOPLE we elect/vote for. A referendum is not a person so it didn't fit the subject

  • @jirehop908 : If off-topic, is the clue disqualified?

  • Bullshit. What did he do at 1:50?

  • I never liked the Donny Osmond version of Pyramid. To Donny: "Don't give up the day job, especially if it's singing and touring alongside your sister Marie and your brothers".

  • @tyrese3745

It's better than Card Sharks 01 which was even worse.

  • 3:42 is one of the funniest illegal clues ever, in addition to being one of the rare times on 1980s/1990s Pyramid where someone got zapped for a visual clue.

  • I thought Edie got zapped for showing her teeth.

  • @danbarker39 I don't think that's it....it's probably that dentures ARE teeth. False teeth, to be sure, but still teeth.

  • @danbarker39 Actually, I think it's because dentures are a kind of teeth. One definition in the dictionary is "a set of teeth".

  • What was wrong with the category People You Elect (Vote) when they said referandum?

  • @CoreyD1086 A referendum is not a person.

  • @CoreyD1086 : Off-topic is disqualified. Or if you say the synonym of the word, that disqualifies the clue.

  • You noticed that most people messed up on the $250 category?

  • Too bad the constestants can't swear out of frustration when they screwed up.

  • The judges do seem to have some humour once in a while. In the last clip, I like the reaction to what Nathan Cook was saying.

  • I hear CBS is serious about reviving Pyramid so you will be hearing more illegal clues!

  • @MrBennetzen I just read CBS decided to go with a talk show this fall. I'll be adding more of these as soon as I can get more footage. Right now I only have enough to make about less than half of another montage, which is what's been holding me back for so long.

  • Comment removed

  • @excuseyou77 it's called the talk

  • What celebrity said "Musicians," for "Things That Make Music"?

  • Need I say more?

  • This is total Pyramid failure!

  • I thought she got zapped for TEETH cause she showed her TEETH whilegiving the clues.

  • Plus dentures is the same as Teeth.

  • @jmjfanss So that's a synonym I believe.

  • Just a noun is not a tool so they DQed that one.

  • @Zduffy88 I still think they should have given her credit for toolbox since the essence word (tool) was said even though it was in a different word.

  • @ten96lt yeah, they should have. the judges were waaaaay too strict with the answers in the winner's circle

  • In "Things you tell", I would've said "a fib", "a lie", "a story", or "the time".

  • Oh boy, Henry Polic II was worst off in the bonus round - 1:32 - in describing "THINGS YOU TELL," he said, "Secrets, on your neighbor," which was a prepositional phrase - if he were to describe like "Your Fortune," "Your Spouse," "Your Family," "Your Best Friend's," or even "Your Personal Secrets," - I'm sure it would've been O.K. And in describing "COLD CUTS," - 2:57 - he didn't just made a repetition by using the word, "Slice," in the name, but I think he was being too darn descriptive!

  • Slice or Sliced or slices are synonamous for cuts

  • I have always found the schmucky judges on this show too strict. Some of them must work for HMOs now.

  • "Just the noun" is too descriptive and/or a prepositional phrase, hence the DQ.

  • at 0:56, is that Ed Begley, Jr.? if its not, please tell me who it is

  • Yes, It's him.

  • And on Cold Cuts, I think "sliced bologna" was illegal because "sliced" is a synonym for "cut".

  • your exactly right on that one

  • And a referendum is an illegal clue for "People we Vote for (Elect)"?

  • Yes, it's not a person.

  • Yes, because the words "referendum" and "vote" are both synonymous.

  • No, a referendum was illegal, because it's not "People" we vote for. IT does not fit the subject.

  • Thank you for that. Even so, I found that out in later videos.

  • That illegal clue sound effect for Donnymid is RIDICULOUS, it's not loud enough, or even noticeable enough to make the contestant KNOW they've done anything wrong. What the hell were they thinking? Buzzers are out of style?

  • I think someone I know describes the sound effect perfectly: "the cuckoo going through the garbage disposal." LOL

  • @excuseyou77 There's nothing wrong with a good old buzzer. America's Got Talent uses one, right?

The least they could have done is use the garbage disposal cuckoo only for the main game and use a real buzzer for the WC. I guess this is why I'm not a TV producer, I'd actually do things that made sense...

  • It's the 21st century, the buzzers are finished.

  • What about The Price is Right?

  • Love this stuff excuseyou77!

I would like to know who the celebrities are that screwed up on "Things That Make Music", "People We Elect (Vote For)", and "Things You Put On With A Brush"....

  • To help you on the first two, they are Anita Gillette and Paul Kreppel.

  • "things you put on with a brush" was Heidi Bohay.

  • @videochis For "People We Elect (Vote For)" it was Paul Kreppel - the word "Referendum," is absolutely illegal and does not fit the clue, while "Things You Put On With A Brush," it was Heidi Bohay. The word "Mascara Wand," is a variation of "Brush," hence, they're synonymous.

  • @Italianlover07 Not to mention "Mascara Wand" also doesn't fit the category, since I'm no makeup expert, but I'm pretty sure you don't use a brush to put the wand on.

  • @videochis Anita Gillette was "Things that make music" and Paul Kreppel was "People We Elect (Vote For)

  • On "The $100,000 Pyramid" episode where Edie got buzzed for saying dentures, the contestant won $900.

  • On "People We Elect or Vote For", I'm not sure he should have been zapped for saying "a referendum". It's a wrong clue, but is it necessarily an illegal clue? Also, as to Nathan Cook for kinda dancing on the "belly dancer" category - I don't remember ever seeing anybody actually zapped for a movement.

  • The buzzer was correct. A referendum is not a person, and thus doesn't fit the category. That's one of the rules.

  • Adrienne Barbeau was disqualified after the commercial for a movement. See "bizarre pyramid end."

  • If you would look at the first bunch of these clips, someone got buzzed for holding her hand up in the air, because it was "Parts of the Statue of Liberty".

  • Dick: "Let's hear it for the judges"

    Audience: "Booooo"

  • Did Edie McClurg get buzzed because dentures pretty much are teeth?

  • Dentures and teeth=synonymous.

  • What was wrong with "Stacked Things"?

  • Stack is a synonym for pile

  • Also the word "Things" was in the category.

  • What was wrong with REFEREDUM?

  • A referendum is not a person.

  • But referendums contain things that will effect the person voting in office, such as a Referendum for a recall. There within the referendum is the opportunity to vote for a new person.

Though he shouldn't have left no doubt to the judges by saying a 'recall referendum'. Hence, he shouldn't have been buzzed, referedums fit the subject.

  • A referendum is not a person. Even if it involves a person, it's not a person itself.

  • You're right, But I would have tested the judges on that, because of the "(Vote for)"

  • For things with teeth, I would have said a comb.

  • I would disagree with Poor Persons buzzed for PEOPLE YOU HELP at 3:08. The key word is HELP and not PEOPLE. It's the same thing as Lauri Hendler saying "the coin part" for PARTS OF A SLOT MACHINE.

And poor Henri Polic II could not get catch a break with Marilyn Evans.

  • Soupy could have used the euphemism for Poor People and used "Economically Disadvantaged" or "Hurricane Katrina Disaster Victims"

  • What's with the buzzer for "A Belly Dancer Says it"? He did not say Belly Dancer.

  • Listen to the rest of the clip. Dick clearly explains it.

  • He used his body to convey the essence of the category, and thus he got zapped.

  • @KidsTVCentral Dick will explain at 3:52.

  • 1:48 was a great clue. too bad it was PEOPLE and not THINGS you vote for

  • 2:45 - this is one of the reasons why I never liked Marilyn Evans as a contestant. She'd just bury the celebrity with answers and fluster them. I was actually disappointed that she won the tournament that year.

  • That is somewhat true, but her answers were usually intelligent. I also believe that a superb celebrity would not be distracted by that.

  • I agree, she was so aggressive in her responses that it gives few clue givers very little leeway to think of new clues.

  • I know it's been said before, but not accepting "things in a toolbox" for "tools" is just plain lousy ruling.

If and when Pyramid ever resurfaces, let's hope the next producers learn from the mistakes made by those that ran Osmond's show.

  • What did that lady say to get that clue disqualified?

  • Arianna said, "just the noun." Basically, she said something that wasn't on the list of "things in a toolbox."

  • Besides, what else would you put in a toolbox?

  • 3:31

Dick: As soon as you said "elastic," they said, "That's a synonym for flexible," ZAP!

    (judge goes DING!)

    (audience groans and boos)

Dick: See, they have confessed their guilt in there! Let's hear it for the judge!

    One audience member: NO WAY!

    The judges are really notorious.

  • The judge should have buzzed the audience!!! LOL!!!

  • I intially disagreed with the judge's call, but after researching the word elastic, I have to agree with their call; they were correct. Now, had the clue been "Elastomer", which is an elastic polymer, then it would have been OK, though I doubt this would've helped the contestant in knowing what the heck an elastomer was. *lol*

  • Was it "blusher" that got him zapped at 2:27?

  • I think it was the fact she said "mascara wand." I believe "wand" was too descriptive.

  • Mascera wand is a brush. a synonym

  • You put on mascara with a brush. You don't put on a mascara wand with a brush, the mascara wand IS the brush, and therefore describes the category instead of fitting into it.

  • Such an awesome gameshow, but I'd be on broken glass in the winner's circle especially if $100 000 were up for grabs; one wrong word...pressure!! Just one of the reasons this game rules.

  • Why did they get buzzed from 1:48-3:10?

  • A referendum is not a person.

  • And except for "Poor Persons" (Persons == People), the rest were synonyms.

  • "people" is a form of "person"

  • Those clues can be tricky. The judges are very meticulous.

  • DING DING

  • True; It's also synonymous with election.

  • What's with the ding at 3:35?

  • When Dick Clark was talking to Howard Norton, (from "Gimme A Break") he gave elastic for flexible, it was a synonym and the moment he said elastic, Dick said "Zap" and clapped his hands, the judge was right.

  • Bill Cullen, on the $20,000 Pyramid used that same clue on the same category and this resulted in a win. Did they have different judges perhaps?

  • Here is the link to that playing....

    watch?v=1TflK6CVcQk

  • David Michaels, the judge for the show, would only communicate with the bell and buzzer. He sounds the bell in situations like this to confirm his reasoning for a DQ.

  • LOL, and then there's how he barely even said elastic before the buzzer went off. It was like "elasti--" *BUZZ* *SLAM*

  • I wonder...For "Things in a Pile," would "Raked Leaves" have been buzzed?

  • Not only would it not be buzzed, it would be the perfect clue.

  • It's a good clue, but raked and piled might be synonymous. I'm not sure.

  • Stacked and Piled were the synonyms there. That's why they got buzzed.

  • That is a legit clue because racked leaves is in a pile. Just like Dirty laundry would be a legal clue. However if you said 'Mounds of leaves' or 'stacked cards' Mound and stack are synonymus with piles.

  • Can you make Pyramid What not To Do 3?

  • Include Betty White when she said "It's not the Billionaire; but the.." (cuckoo)

  • Not sure if I have that, but if I do that will certainly be there. :)

  • It'll take a while to compile new footage but there will definitely be one soon enough. :)

  • great news

  • I love 1:37 "No Henry, next."

  • Henry Polic II was great in the front game, but awful in the Winner's Circle. He may lead the universe in illegal clues.

  • I am not sure if Henry Polic II was worse than Dick Cavett. But, it is definitely between the two of them for the most frequently buzzed celebrity.

Both gave some very strong clues as well.

Henry Polic II would have been one of the top players had he been buzzed less often.

  • I recognize the receiving contestant beginning at 3:44. Didn't she eventually win the big money later in that same episode thanks to the officials reversing an illegal clue?

  • Yeah I believe that is true. She won $25,000 with Mary Cadorette on a judge's error.

  • "Poor.... persons."

    Nice try there, Soupy.

  • I will explain a rule not in the description and that can be very confusing.

One cannot use clues that lead into the key word but do not fit the whole category.

The key word in "things you put on with a brush" is "brush";"a mascara wand" leads into the word "brush", but one does not put on the wand with a brush.

One votes for a referendum, but the referendum is not a person.

Dentures are a type of tooth, they do not have teeth.

  • Actually, I agree with you 2/3 of the way there. You're on the right track-- You don't put a mascara wand ON WITH A BRUSH. A referendum is not a PERSON YOU VOTE FOR. But I believe dentures are fittings, like braces or mouthguards, that HAVE TEETH on them.

  • You are absolutely correct in your reasoning, dentures was indeed a legitimate clue, the judges made a bad call.

  • According to the dictionary, the definition for denture is "a set of teeth", so it's synonamous.

  • Comment removed

  • Dentures I believe is a synonym for teeth.

  • I did not see "denture listed as a synonym for "tooth" in microsoft word, though it is possible some thesauruses would list it as such. Regardless, a denture is a type of tooth; it does not have a tooth.

  • Comment removed

  • You need not be sorry. The clue was still unacceptable for the reason I named.

  • For "tools", what did the celebrity even say that got her disqualified (not just the reason, I actually cannot make out what word(s) she said).

  • When the contestant said "Things in a Toolbox", the celebrity said "Just the Noun". I'm thinking on the 80s version, that would've been accepted.

  • Just to clarify, I think the contestant's response would've been accepted for that category.

  • No. "Just the noun" is not something you'd find in a toolbox.

  • Touche' sir. :-)

  • I keep lots of nouns in my toolbox

  • I am not sure what the problem was with "sliced.." for cold cuts. Sliced turkey is still a cold cut. Did he say something I did not hear?

  • Sliced is a synonym for cut.

  • I cannot believe I missed that! I certainly would have not have made the error for "things you cut."

Well, I guess this shows why even the most experienced celebrities got buzzed occasionally.

  • excuseyou77 is right in saying that sliced would be a synonym for cut. Find that buzzer at 2:58.

  • No one disputes that. Microsoft word lists them as synonyms. I use that as the final authority.

  • Sliced and cut are synonyms...hence the disqualification.

  • I remember on the Final Episode with Dick Clark, The clue was things in a Flea Market and someone said Dogs Bugs.

  • The contestant who got cuckooed on "Cheerleader" looks like the same person who would receive a very obscene clue for "Erect" from Vicki Lawrence on an episode of Super Password.

For the "Tools" one, if that was any other pre-2002 version, I think the judges would have accepted "Toolbox." It shows the lousy judging that plagued that version, they had to have an exact guess.

  • Whole-heartedly agreed on the "tool" thing. I think Dick himself had a say on what was good during the 80s run, and she got the essence of the subject. The judging on Donnymid was atrocious all over.

  • at 1:35--Things you tell: on your neighbor?

  • The clue was too descriptive. It wasn't a good one.

  • Comment removed

  • no it wouldn't, it's still a preponsintal phrase

  • I'm confused here.

  • This is funny

  • That last one was funny.

  • IIRC, the Winner's Circle playing that began at 0:53 was where no money was won.
