I think that Jaye gave a good performance but not to win an academy award. The people who are saying that Stephen Rea was robbed is WRONG, Al Pacino in Scent od a woman was one of the best performances I've ever seen by a male actor, It's OK if you loved The Crying Game but saying that Rea was robbed? Jaye Davidson sure was great in that role. I guess it's good for him that he didn't win because he wasn't that happy about the attention he got for "The Crying Game." So it must have been a relief for him that they gave the award to a more experienced, veteran actor rather than a newcomer fashion guy.

But he deserved Best Actor in a Supporting role, but Gene Hackman was a more seasoned actor and the Academy votes for that more times than not. well he didnt like the attention from acting. he only has 4 movie credits to his name the last occurring in 1999. It's a shame he didnt really dig acting b/c he was obviously a natural...your 1st movie credit and you get an oscar nomination, there are well known actors who have been in the business for years who've never been nominated. he had stiff competition, but when you fool millions of ppl into believing youre a girl just by stuffing your bra & putting on makeup, you deserve an Oscar!!

He was only credited for 2 movies really. Stargate sucked ASS! His performance wasn't what I wanted. But in The Crying Game he is great. Thing is, he couldn't surpass that owning to the fact he didn't want to. I still think he was great, not perfect like Stephen Rea though.

I think that Jaye totally owned the role of Dil...but Stephen Rea was overwhelmingly effective..and owned the movie.

Rea carried Jaye's character and allowed Jaye to really stretch the role.

The movie belongs to Stephen Rea....Dil belongs to Jaye.
