Why a man can have four wives while a woman can not have more than one husband?

I am in my dads youtube account and i think he'll be shocked to see that i watched this. I am a woman myself and when i heard about man having four wives i thought it was ridiculous. but when i realized that there are more woman than men on this planet then a man can marry more women. i think this because if every man only has one wife and there are more women than they would become gay.and nobody wants gay females so man can marry more wives.

Islam is all about RIGHTS - Children have the right to know who there father is, and to inherit from him.

How is this possible if a woman is sleeping around with different men?

if a man has four wives and sleeps with each one of them and they become pregnant he knows that those are his children, if a woman has four husbands and she sleeps with all of them and becomes pregnant who can she say for sure is the father of her baby? She can't, she'd be a whore. that is my opinion.

a man is allowed to have upto four wives if he can support and be equal to all of them which is extremely difficult I dont know anyone that has four wives and i dont see why someone would want that many I think one would be enough lol

Just curious, I'm happy to hear that Islam may have contributed to society strength especially in familial relationship & bond in general. However, some nation like Malaysia shows statistic that the highest divorce cases were the Muslims compared with the other races/religions in percentage. Does that means that Malaysia is not classified as Muslim nation despite they claim themselves as one?

Wow... I'm very amazed on how this Scholar present Islam. Truthfully speaking, I grown up in an Islamic Country but I know nuts about Islam & often felt that Islam occasionally contradict with themselves. Thanks for lifting up the fog & explain the religion. How I wish the Religious Teacher here in my country would be more open to us non-muslim so we can understand this beautiful religion better rather than closing the door & raise confusion, worst case, fear which is common.

The answer to this question is pretty easy to give: what purpose would a woman having four husbands wouldserve really? She couldn't possibly carry the babies of all four husbands at the same time. On the other hand, a man can easily impregnate all four wives, so for every baby he would have in a western country, he can have four in an islamic society. Therefore, this law wasn't made to suppress women, as many naive would reckon, it was made to enhance the islamic population.

Amazingly Estes does not answer the question, he just babbles on and on about marriage but refuses to answer why women are not allowed more than one husband. If he doesn't know he should have just said so.

@goblin003 Are you serious? is the answer is that difficult to ask about? before Islam and even now in the west some women made relations with more than one man so if she had a baby who will be the father of this baby?

Scientifically it is proven that when a woman make a relation with more than one man she suffer from psychological problems. What if these two or more men are their husbands and she makes relations with them regularly?

It sounds to me that there is an element of selfishness and lust here. You say you believe in Jesus but yet you don't acknowledge his teachings.

My questions is this, Why do you need more than one wife? I will tell you why, sex. Is that what Islam is based on, sex? Jesus said that 2 become ONE in marriage not 5 become 1.

How about you come back to the reality and stop brainwashing people to follow a religion based on selfishness and lust. Where is the balance? Where is the blessing of Christ?

Let me explain it to you in simpler terms...hopefully you won't miss the boat this time. There have always been more women than men...sometimes with a ratio of even 3:1. In a perfect world 1 man would marry 1 woman. But clearly thats not the case. Now you tell me...what should become of these women who are left? This uneven ratio opens the doors to some of the biggest problems we face in society: sin...adultery...affairs...mul­tiple sex partners...prostitution.

yes muslims know that but u know why ? coz there was alot of groups of people in the suadia arabia .. in arabic when u marry a girl from any family u mean that u r an important person for them coz u 've married there doughter so they will supprt u :) thats why our prophet has more than 4 wifes :)

When people hear that the prophet had many wives they conclude without much thought that the prophet was a sensuous man. However, a quick historical review of his marriages, proves otherwise.

When he was twenty-five years old he married for the first time. His wife, Khadijah, was fifteen years older than he. She remained the only wife of the prophet for the next twenty-five years, until she died.

Now, it is obvious that if the prophet was after physical pleasure he did not have to wait until he was more than fifty years old to start marrying more wives. He lived in a society in which it was quite acceptable to have many wives. But the prophet remained devoted to his only wife for twenty-five years. When she died she was sixty-five years old.
