The song was recorded on April 20, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia by Blind Willie Johnson and is included in the Anthology of American Folk Music.[1][2][3] In this version Johnson's first wife Willie B. Harris performs the response parts of the song.[4] The Golden Gate Quartet performed and recorded the song a cappella in the 1930s.[5] Son House also recorded several a cappella versions in the 1960s.
@TheGreatTactician I'm afraid you are: this was first recorded by Blind Willie Johnson. However, this recording sounds more like Son House's version than BWJ's original; so I guess we can't completely rule out the possibility that Robert Johnson might have performed it, even though he seems to have taken more inspiration from the netherworld than from spiritual revelations, in contrast to the 'holy blues' men. Worlds apart spiritually, but with a musical kinship.........
White rats could care less about this crapp! The writing is on the wall! BORING!! the Black Rats dont care about this crapp either......Do they.........D'umbass!
where can I get more of this kind of sound? Who else plays like CTK in this video, Heavy; raw; blues. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
He's a great guitarist but a lot of the lyrics are lift from RL Burnside and Son House (or Blind Willie Johnson.) I'm not too into this hip hop blues.
Chris Thomas King is the New Blues. I for sure am one of the many true believers in his massive New Style congregation. He never plays a song that does not move me.
I had the privlege of seeing CTK in a small venue in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I don't think we fully appreciated his talent before the concert, but were true believers at the end. 21st Century Blues is in good hands.
