  • gotta love that boiling water sound.

  • Steve Albini is HOT.

  • Amazing!

  • shi-bi-re-ru!!!!!!

  • the hand waving "nononono" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • this song should be the only thing under the definition for PUNK

  • Are those Telecasters those two boys are playing? My Telecaster doesn't sound like that. Bruce Springsteen's or Brad Paisley's Telecasters don't sound like that.

  • @PrincePurple I do believe those are Travis Bean guitars they are playing : )

  • @Putyourknifinme

Thanks. Never heard of Travis Bean guitars. To get that sound they must be made of plutonium.

  • @PrincePurple Solid Aluminium bodies, steel strings and steel plectrums = Bliss :-))

  • @Putyourknifinme

No, Albini has only used the Travis Bean with shellac.

Here he's using what looks to be a double cutaway tele.

  • I hope downtown Louisville, KY likes this song, I blast it every morning from my car on the way to work!

  • @kevpark21, HA, just like I hoped Sacramento, CA liked this song back in '89. I is so happy Big Black is still reaching ears.

  • Holy shit balls! Geeks on fire.

  • ahhh increíble, hay alguna banda así actualmente?

    sensaciones extremass

  • It sounds like he's murdering that guitar with a piece of sheet metal.

  • That man is Buster from Arrested Development.

  • @smurf88 Heyy brother

  • there's no word to justify how intense these guys are... inelevense? (sorry.)

  • fuuuck this is so awesome on every level

  • holy crap how is he making that noise?!

  • never hung a darky not even a big one FUCK YA

  • crushin'

  • i can pull on a rope

  • that's the craziest tone ever!

  • Guess they know Im not no company man

  • That guitar tone is due to Albini using notched metal picks.

  • @anarchopaperclip

And the fact he uses Travis Bean guitars which are made with aluminum necks instead of wood.

  • @Punk93Metal Not during the "Big Black" days he wasn't.

  • @orangie1

    Honest mistake.

  • I love the Albini guitar sound. It's the "Anti-tone" in the best possible way.

  • Music to have sex with Camels to....

  • Sounds like the guitar is torturing some small robot like R2- intro

  • the rustiest guitar ever

  • My favorite Big Black song

  • I FUCKING LOVE BIG BLACK

  • 0:00-1:20= top 10 I dont give a flying fuck guitar solos in history

  • Why is everybody interested in the guitar sound when it's the filthiest ( By that I mean the best!) bass sound ever produced!!!

  • Disagree, Albini's guitar sound was one of the most distinctive aspects of Big Black's music. Love them or loathe them, Big Black were highly original and innovative.

  • they're so fuckin tight

  • you have to be to play with a drum machine, it's something i'm learning with my little drum machine project

  • One of these best CD's (remember those?) to screw by.

  • Yes no one remembers CDs. You must be old!!!

  • this shit got suggested to me by youtube, and thank god for it

  • nasty

  • can anyone tell me (knowledgeable answers only plz) what gives albini and durango that 'buzzsaw' guitar sound?

  • Pretty much just a shitload of treble, no mids or bass, and driving their amps really hard. IIRC, Albini uses a rare solid state preamp and power amp with an old Fender Bassman, but no effects pedals other than a tuner.

  • good call, fembot....nobody else has brought up the Bassman.....

  • I *think* he might also have a very VERY tight delay (so tight it's almost flanging) as well. You can sort of hear it on "Steak and Black Onions" (Rapeman).

It's one HELL of a sound though.

  • he used a metal guitar clip that he carved ridges into with a pair of needlenose pliers.

  • yeah, thats something i've heard

  • He also makes a pedal that was discontinued now. You can find him talking about it on youtube somewhere. Runs for about $300 I think. He also plays with metal picks. Steve Albini also eat uranium. That's really the secret behind his sound.

  • nutty, crunchy, chocolatey uranium

  • @HappyTimeCycles im pretty sure he uses a pedal called an interfax harmonic percolater now being remade to original spec in america by theremaniacs

  • to: wilson2810 a "interfax harmonic percolater"? sweet zombie jeebus, that sounds dangerous, haha.

  • 2:35. Damn Albini, you got a trem. Use it. haha, good stuff anyway.

  • I have always been intrigued by Big Black since I first heard them when I was 16... to me it was never about great song writing... Albini was innovative, he produced music that just didn't sound like anything else, but was dark, kinetic and unusual.

  • Nothin like drinking a fifth of lord calvert and listening to this.

  • teh bass is so beastin

  • kick ass

  • happy days ... ya'll yanks? well this and the Minute Men made early eighties US music worthy of a cause, oh that and Black Flag )

  • Two nerdy guys team up with Santiago Durango, do horrible things to guitars and make hardcore goodness.

  • I would say less hardcore & more Noise rock, but that's just me.

  • Been listening to non stop Big Black and Rapeman for the last few weeks. Brutal as fuck and blows away nearly everyone.

  • Shit...after the early warm up they get their shit done....Steve....one of a kind......Shelac ......great memory!

  • amazing these guys can still hear anything in the upper register.

  • Oddly the other day I was listening to big black and my friend was watching a movie trailer called "SOULPOWER" It is about the concerts and musicians who played a show right before Muhammad Ali fought George Foreman, and there was a band named "Big Black." haha! Just two things were different with these guys, they were black and they were funky music. I am not saying they were bad, but it did make me jump up and think "really!!!! Big Black!"

  • Who would make souch a pointless film?

  • Isn't their name obviously a cropped phrase with male genitalia missing?

  • Dammit mom, I thought i told you not to touch my Big Black records

  • Isn't that what its coming to anymore. The older gen is loosening up.

  • big black what can i say there were big black what can i say they were big black badassed song

  • Best rock band ever.

  • I love the way Dave takes his bass off and towels himself down when he realises Albini's doing a Steve Howe. Get well soon, Dave.

  • big black f'n rocks, listen to this once and you will replay

  • @topless1975scout Yes, I listened once in about 1991 and still replaying!

  • The guitar tone from hell! Damaging to say the least!

  • @jp28hc I just wish I knew how to get it.

  • dont fuck around! haha

  • they should be credited more.

  • I guess they know I ain'nt no company man...but I tug on a rope-kill-a-cow...best as any other fucker can

    poetry

  • I've always thot it woz: I guess they know, I ain't no company man...but I c'n tug on a rope 'n' kill-a-cow...fast as any motherfucker can

I get the idea I know who slaughtered the cows that made the beef that made the burger that made the "Hamburger Martyr"...

  • My favorite album in college....got ripped a few hundred times with this song!

  • Atomizer!

  • steve albini is god

  • It's pointless to say anything clever about Steve Albini or Big Black, so I won't bother. It rocks like your house is actually on fire

  • I miss my friend Grey.

  • HAHA at 0:35, did anyone hear the "Don't Fuck Around" from the audience

  • Does anyone think that Santiago Durango(dude on right) looks exactly like the dad from Calvin And Hobbes?

  • Yes and he ruled!

  • Hahaha that is the most amazing call I have ever heard. He sure does.

  • how does it sound like living in minnesota? maybe Jordan, Minnesota is what you mean...

  • Steve Albinis from minnesota, this song is about him and his friends going to the local slaughterhouse because they were so bored living in rural America.

  • Jordan Minnesota is a song about a small town where everybody fucks each others' kids

  • Hug from Jesus!

  • Hi Alan.

  • Love this song, sounds like living in Minnesota. They all look so threatening,Riley looks like a disgruntled office worker on a shooting spree,Durango looks like a really,REALLY angry Kevin Spacey and Albini just looks like an average American,a really dangerous and mentally unstable. nerd

  • it looks like he's rewiring the pickups at the start which is impossible...but still, it's kind of weird. but fucking awesome.

  • The Men of all men.

  • one of the best songs EVER

  • fuck yeah!!!!

    big black were the shit!!

  • I was hooked on Big Black after [earth] Atomizer [go]. F'in great.
