  • Jeffery Tate looks like a fat Stephen King.

  • Mitsuko Uchida is performing this concerto and 2 other Mozart works at Symphony Center in Chicago in late March! I have tickets and I cannot wait!!!

  • @PineconeDryad I'm right there with you. And then tickets for Kissin later in April. What a great month.

  • christina yang from gray's anatomy looks like her ROFL

  • Mozart's music is really awesome!!! It is often easy to forget the brilliance of classical music mixed up with the oddities of some current music.

  • is Peter Griffin from Family Guy the conductor?

  • HAHAHAHHA check out the pianists face at the beginning

  • @horseburger ???

  • @horseburger lol

  • I'm here because I'm trying to study. They say classical works best...

  • I like rap but this stuff is so calming I love it, an excellent study aid

  • I was dying -- on the slippery slope to hell.

A UPS driver made a stop just as I passed by.

He was playing classical music on his radio.

As he got out we both just stood for a minute in awe.

Classical music breathed life into me once again -as I'm sure it did for him too.

  • Ugh, so much elitism...

  • @studioworks1990 you can always play it in your rugged jeans without feeling elit

  • @anupamdixit I was talking about the comments, not the video.

  • @studioworks1990 sad that's how you interpret it. we're just finding joy in something we like. nothing more.

  • 45 people had no business looking at (or intelligence to comprehend the beauty of) this video, go back and watch the Katy Perry vids

  • All I can say is this is incredibly, nearly impossible to play. you should try before comparing it other music - it's like comparing chess to noughts and crosses - sure both are fun, and ALL music is fun if you're into it - but THIS requires a life time of effort - seen Mitzuko four times (first way back in 1986) and she is without a doubt one of the very very very best at Mozart - her control and time keeping are exemplary - OK now back to your argument over music styles.......

  • danke schoen!!

  • As someone who doesn't get "hip hop" and "modern" music, sometimes I see the behaviour of those artists a bit "odd" on stage - After listening (and watching) this video, I understand how a hip-hop loving dude might also see the behaviour of these artists as slightly odd ... long live art, whatever it might mean to you! (as long as it doesn't mean taking pictures of underage kids)

  • perfect for piano lovers

  • Who, on the face of the planet, could dislike this? *gasp

  • @KingsStrokesParty I agree. They must not be human beings. I am relatively new to classical music but I can tell when a piece of music has feeling and emotion, brilliant.

  • imba facial expressions! truly feels the presence of music on mituko's mind and heart!

  • Mitsuko Uchida lives in music. It is great!

  • imba

  • I love this performance! What a gift she has to be able to identify the elements within the piece that give it its own distinct personality and logic and to execute them with such ease and grace. I feel like she is completely engaged bringing the music to life.

  • i still think its amazing that mozart would have not only wrote this...but conducted the orchestra and performed it.....he left a great gift to mankind......and sadly he ends up in a paupers grave......life is really strange.....but the music lives on which is a blessing huh

  • I prefer Murray Perahia's more muscular approach to this concerto, just sayin'.

  • FUCKING LOL at the facial expressions. But seriously, great music.

  • @Metallideth1993 Death metal "musicians" make even funnier expressions! This I can see since I only block my ears and not my eyes when I make attempts to appreciate that particular genre of music.

  • @aortablue hmmm, you wrote the word, "musicians" in speech marks. You're a cunt.

  • Comment removed

  • @Metallideth1993 Oh good! I was hoping you'd notice! And wow, it's true what they say about 18 yr olds. It's okay. One day you will be able to express yourself without a simpleton vocabulary, shouting etc. Merry Christmas!

  • where was that performance be hold ? the place is very grand.

  • Uchida lives music. She becomes every note and really makes it sparkle like never before! Find me a better Mozart pianist and I will be very, very surprised...

  • Why are you having a go at thethikboy, you should be directing your comments at the other person. He wasn't angry or abusive the other person was clearly acting like a petty moron (ie small minded and childlike manner). Perhaps I should book my counselling with you right now "trulynot", of course my response to that would be, truly not!

  • AWESOME!!

  • super, bravo

  • HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHA im laughing so hard at the conductor!!! he looks like Igor

    YEEEESSSSSS MAASTER

  • @CziffraTheThird

What a petty moron you are when there is exquisite music being performed.

  • @thethikboy get some counseling angry abusive person, lols.

  • @trulynot instead of playin psychologist - Look at what I was responding to - a petty childness asshole making fun of the conductor when a beautiful piece of music is playing. That's the person that need help.

  • @thethikboy Lols ease up on the abuse and get some counseling...it looks like you are just trying to save face with an explanation/rant.

  • @trulynot

Yah I'll get normal and laugh at disabled music conductors. I'll do my best to shrink my deranged mind to that pea size. LOL. At least you'll let that pass.

  • @thethikboy You can keep trying to save face or you can realise that you acted unethically and uncivilised and probably didnt teach the person anything. You lashed out because you are angry - get counseling :)

  • @CziffraTheThird - come back here when you're an adult

  • @CziffraTheThird

The conductor has a back problem, I researched about him. You shouldn't make fun of him. He's very good at what he does, conducting.

  • the conductor: a funny guy, but OUTSTANDING performance

  • the conductor: a funny guy, but OUTSTANDING perfoRmance

  • Passion produces inspiration, and is this not inspiring?

  • @cellofingers yeah, most if not ALL my classes are made hearing Mozart's work =)

  • Are any of the musicians actually watching that conductor?!

  • @teapotextravaganza a funney guy

  • wonderfull

  • These Musicians have so much passion playing Mozart's piece.

  • awesome

  • why is this the "old man" concerto

  • stunning performance! Uchida is my favorite person to listen to when it comes to Mozart's music. How could 40 people dislike such a performance?

  • Mozart made funny faces too.

  • folks, why do you have to look? Just close your eyes and listen to the music.

  • listen while high. Feel like tom & jerry

  • thanks for the background info. very informative!

    Piano Concerto No. 9 "Jenamy"

  • I like rap, hip-hop, techno and metal... AND this... classical music is excellent! lol

  • Wow, Mitsuko's performance brings tears to my ears! Nothing against the orchestra, but she's really in another plane of existence, almost like she's channeling the dead. Incredible score, too! Beethoven must have considered Mozart's concerto structure the perfect foundation for his own - they have a lot of similarities...

  • I cannot fully express how this music touches the deepest recesses of my soul!!! It is so profoundly spiritual. Mozart was definitely a genius of music. Mitsuko truly brings it alive for us mortals. Wish I could attend one of her performances live.

  • that would be funny if the conductor was just some traffic stop guy! no, good stuff.

  • @nequillim mozart is a composer not a performer...

  • @SpartanZip10 Actually, Mozart did perform. :-)

  • @SpartanZip10 actually Mozart was a performer, he was directing and playing in all his piano concerti. and he played the viola on his quintets =)

  • 9:19-9:32 this must be time travel

  • I wish there were videos of her playing all the Mozart piano concertos. she's just so fun to watch - flawless, passionate, intense

  • @canyoueatme24 One thing I do when I want to look for answers is turn to history. And, odds are Biebers mediocre sound will be long forgotten while Mozarts legacy will still be referenced to aspiring musicians. Gaga blatantly ripping off Madonna seems to contribute to her fading hype as well. Utilize the internet and do some research on a subject before you advertise your lack of intelligence and destroy what little hope in mankinds evolutionary progression I have left.

  • @lolitztoeknee It's sad that from these origins spawned modern pop. It's bile-rising. Classical is closer to the fundamental tenets of musical understanding inherent in human nature than any other facet of musical expression.

Hits, sales, and subscriptions are democratic carving-tools of modern beauty. Truth by popular determination. With Lady GaGa in such demand, its no surprise kids are being taught astrology controls the weather, or that evolution is an unproven theory. Mozart is laughing.

  • @o0xemas0o Its as if pervasive attitudes of willful ignorance are manufactured to keep the public entertained at the cost of their eroding intelligence. Greed has provided the landscape for marketing our stupidity. It's resonate of a complacent, self destructive public. A time bomb thats more destructive than any bomb we'll ever construct. Classical is algabraic in its intricacy wheras crap today is banal arithmatic. And, It's easier to add and subtract than to quantify harmony such as this.

  • @nequillim Lol, nice job, troll. Now go back to your little cave and leave us intelligent folks alone.

  • @nequillim LMAO. Oh, my goodness! You've got to be kidding, right?

  • Cecille Licad could have shown us much better version of facial expression

  • hahah the conductor is fat!XD

  • @canzonaserenata i am here for the music. i think Mitsuko Uchida is incredibly talented. i don''t care one way or another what she does with her face while she plays, her playing is exquisite. i too love opera and also really don't give a damn what people look while engaged in producing their art. i know i can't produce that kind of amazing sound with my voice or on a piano. so to all you face contorting musicians out there, my hat's off to you!! Thanks for making my ears so very happy!!! (:

  • @NaoEW I agree with everyone, I think. On one hand, yes, the music is astounding, and Uchida is, by far, the best player of Mozart I have ever heard. On the other hand, the facial expressions do become very distracting from the music she is playing. In a concert, you want to hear the music, not have your eyes constantly drawn towards the orgasmic gestures being made by the pianist. To be fair, Uchida is not excessive in it; I cannot, however, even bear to watch pianists like Lang Lang perform :p

  • I doubt this concerto can be played any better at all. Immaculate. A hundred thanks for uploading one of the best videos on YouTube. :) Shame it has only 1 million views.

  • It is sad that some of the lowest comments come from people living in the more advanced country in the world. I think this is the price of lowering the budget in education. I feel sorry for your society. Freedom of speech but only if you have an I.Q. of over 90. Otherwise, limit yourself to be a nothing.

  • ChunkyCharlex you have truly missed the point. If that's all you can focus on when you hear genius like this you are clearly listening to music out of your league. You might want to set your ears on some Clear Channel FM radio, maybe a little Brittney Spears or Justin Beber would be more your type.

  • @NaoEW

read ChunkyCharlex comment and see that he's not into Bieber but is a huge opera fan. He's rightly addressing the visual aesthetics of a musical performance. I agree with him that this lady contradicts her obviously talented and musical piano playing with a rather ridiculous visual performance. Notice that that none of the equally musical members of the orchestra (or the conductor) pulls faces like she does.

  • Mitsuko Uchida and Jeffrey Tate - Certified Intergalactic! The best Jeunehomme!

  • GREAT! I LOVE THEM!

  • bravo!

    incredible talent!

  • ANYONE that criticizes this level of talent....has infantile understanding of musical expression! The facial expression is part and parcel of the musical interpretation...one's body, mind and soul is interpreting this music. Why do tennis players grunt, groan???? Playing the most complex instrument with such exquisite undulations involves much more than the AVERAGE can process!

  • She is no doubt greatly talented, but the facial expressions are something of a distraction. All the gurning and grimacing is slightly off-putting. I'm a huge opera fan, why do the great singers and players not "pull" these faces? It's purely a gimmick, like "guitar face". Something that should be parodied, not perpetuated. More "This Is Spinal Tap" than Marriage of Figaro.

  • @ChunkyCharlex

agree with you 100%, "face pulling" has unfortunately become part of the classical scene like the similar "guitar face" in rock. Many Asian pianists have adopted this approach - Lang Lang being the worst case. Quite remarkable because Asian culture strongly disapproves on losing face. The faces might be a conscious gimmick, or perhaps just bad habits that's escalated over the years. In the end it does look like a parody of emotional expression.

  • i started listening to this when i was becoming a sort of insomniac now i sleep well every night its just so peaceful i think im gonna go lie down *yawn*

  • @nud22 "The comment and rating system was created to post one's thoughts about the song, not disrespect a musical master"

Contradiction much? Are you stupid bro? Must the posters' thoughts only be positive? Surely you are one of those people that dislike freedom of expression when someone is hating on what you like/love. What a sad and pathetic person you are.

  • this is an example of dedication,

  • Visit our channel : prog-rock band Gran Torino. The new album is coming in 2011 (grantorinoProg)

  • Mozart is soo hard to play musically, but Uchida simply becomes the music in a special way that's just extraordinary...

  • Hi anyone know the concerto (piano) from Wolfgang that is very dissonant and experimental as ive forgotten which one it is.

  • @geisterbahn1 if you find it please let me know also!

  • Mitsuko Uchida is the reincarnation of Mozart...

  • @manuelspcool well, that really can be true!

  • every note drips of liquid gold.

  • Ms. Uchida is such an intense, spirited, fun performer. Enchanted and entrancing she is. Brava!

  • The conductor is one lovely looking man

  • This is clearly the facial expression of someone having a musigasm.

  • @auro1001 nitpicking but i believe the term is eargasm

  • @auro1001 That's some funny S*** right there.......true dat!

  • @auro1001 That's some funny S*** right there.....true dat!

  • her devotion and love of her art is so inspiring

  • I dont think they know that they were video taped lol but i love the song anyway

  • @lillyg95 you must have the I.Q. of a dog poo.

  • Ooo, Steven King directing.

  • she is the best

  • 38 people were so mesmerized that they mistakenly hit "dislike"...

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW great Mozart!!!! Hats up up up! :)

  • INDEED!

  • She reminds me of the one from Greys Anatomy and no I don't watch that show but I have seen like 3 episodes lol

  • holy trills :D ahaaa, that was beautiful. i loveee mozart

  • @MegSecretAgent

Holy trills!!!! I have got to use that one!!! That's just sick!

  • Certified Intergalactic! Hail Mozart!

  • mozart will never die!

  • she plays her music with a face that just reads "I love Mozart"

  • The conductor is fat. Beautifully played however

  • @PianoBart958 fat people are the best conductors

  • Her trills are PHENOMENAL

  • the tempo fluctuates.

  • I absolute love this graceful melodic style of Mozart and many of the Classic and Romantic composers, that's why I'm trying to inspire today's composers to forget the computer-generated stuff and return to this type of writing. I've just finished "Symphonic Variations After a Theme of Cesar Franck" for piano & orchestra written in the Romantic tradition; it is here on YouTube. Please have a listen and let me know if I'm setting a good or a bad example. All comments pos. or neg. welcome.

  • I like this Mozart guy. He seems to be better than Justin Bieber etc...:D

  • Great Mozart.

  • i also have wached this most powerful movement and have respect and viel to say that the character and will, to subdue and to actualy listen to the thrid min into the sonata is superb the style of uchida in her own asain way of hove is to compaire to with sutch insight and passion, has done this concerto justice. futhermore quite masterful.

  • LOL

  • Certified Intergalactic! Mozart "Jeunehomme" - Uchida/Tate Class IGBM*

    The best in its class!

*IGBM (Inter-Galactic Ballistic MIssile) - a sonar projectile

  • See asians can be musical! and very musical indeed!

  • wats the big deal about the director?! Ppl are obviously judging this video on something else other than good music :(

  • I swear to God, I know that woman playing piano. Does anyone know her name??? She looks just like a teacher I had in the past.

  • @ManOnFia isnt she in ER

  • @ManOnFia her name is featured together with the conductors, under the video window :-)

  • Relax, Asians all look alike lol - her name is Uchida .... I'm guessing she is Japanese. So unless you lived in Japan before, the chances of her being your teacher are low, keeping in mind relatively low Japanese emmigration. Even in Canada, Japanese people are hard to find (but when you do find them, YOU JUMP THEM! coz they are freakin awesome!)

  • @Byron10301 Yes She is Japanese, but more Viener than Japanese, She was born in japan but study since has 14 in Viena, She can speak german, English, Japanese and is the most talented pianist of our time = )

  • @manuelspcool indeed she is very talented! but undoubtedly t he greatest piano of our time is called Martha Argerich :) and I don't say this becuase I am also Argentinean... by the way perhaps the other musical talent that can dispute Argerich is Daniel Baremboin, also born in Buenos Aires :)

of course we can say all this now that the great Claudio Arrau sadly passed away.

anyway great concerto 9 from Mozart! probably his first masterpiece!

  • Please thumbs up if you love the conductor - every single video I have seen from him conducting has been awesome

  • Thank you, it was complete honor to listen to this interpretation.

  • does somebody know who wrote the cadenza that is performed here?

it sounds like Mozarts cadenza but I may be wrong

  • Boob!!! i just said boob but it shouldn't matter, you should be too entranced by this beautiful music to notice.

    Good day sir! : )

  • Mitsuko uchida

    She hates japan very much.

  • @yoshinori31 the music critic of the Daily Telegraph described her recent concert in UK as a "decadal event " . Ie the the sort of performance you get once in ten years. He probably goes to several concerts a week. She is a genius. Nuff said.

  • I have to say I disagree with Alfred Brendel when he says a "wonder of the world," going so far as to assert that Mozart "did not surpass this piece in the later piano concertos." I prefer and the later piano concertos, especially no20, 21, 23 and 24 his style was much more refined by this time! and has more emotional depth

  • chida younger plays concert 9 with conductor and Doctor Britain Jaffrei Tate brilhant and divine!

  • I never knew French Horns were in this Concerto! That just shows how wonderful Mozart is.

  • 37 people were drunk while listening to this superb concerto!

  • Pleasant feeling that flows into the power and ease of living.Beautiful music

  • Mozart and Beethoven were the greatest out of all the musical masters! Bach is good too, but M & B have to be the best! Such energy, emotional and pure genius! No one in my opinion could even come close!......Wonderful video and musicians! They capture Mozart's composition perfectly! :)

  • Mozart brings the best out in Uchida. I watched her play lots of other composers ,but Wolfgang and her are very close

  • Does she use ANY pedal? I wasn't too sure.

  • @rladbwjdtl doesnt sound like it, the notes are drop very suddenly, but i couldnt be sure, im not an expert, good music nevertheless

  • What a gorgeous and incredible pianist!! Bravo!!

  • She looks like she's having a perpetual orgasm

  • @ColdDadaNothing Women just love a nice, big, thick, Concerto!

  • @ColdDadaNothing why do people always talk about orgasms here?? please stfu

  • @ColdDadaNothing

I would be orgasming too, if I had that brilliant interpretation unfolding beneath my fingers.

  • look at the way she plays... so breathtaking and passionate. absolutely beautiful
