  • Magneficent evil.... Arcing while isolating onload or while isolating current storage devices is a common phenomenon

  • That is cool!!! How did that happen?

  • Woo!

  • is that how Powerstations Turn Off the Power?

  • oh my gosh this changed my life

  • CLICK, KOSHZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZBANG. "...WAH!"

  • I HAVE THE POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • What is 500 kv mean? 500.000 volt?

  • @BerkerIzmir35TR yes. k= kilo ( a thousand) .. so 500*1000 => 500'000

  • หลอกลวงเก่งจริงๆเลย

  • I LOVE Electrons! Xx SWEET! ;-)

  • That's a fuckin big bug zapper...

  • Kamehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Did he died?? :D

  • guy at end of the video: W00T! >:D

    lolz

  • *--------* i like this

  • man this video is fake :P

  • Awesome!! VIDEO HD!

  • What a waste of electricity

  • @Kitsunefan9 thats why we have in germany special times to kill the switching light

  • The "WOO!" at the end really adds to this video's awesomeness :D

  • @Dutchface101 - Great info, it sounds like you have probably nailed it on the head. Heh, I learned something useful for my job, on youtube...

  • @kenfo0 Maybe it could have jumped to something close by, but I don't see anyone near close enough for it to really be a concern. The switchyard is designed with a lot of room around the equipment for that reason. Ohh also, the fence is grounded.

@cridem07 Heh, yeah on purpose, but not correct. They may have had a failure in a different component and needed to connect for a critical reason even with the risk that they could damage equipment (calculated risk). Who knows...

  • Very pretty!

  • that is the prettiest shit i have ever seen.

  • WOW!!!!

  • For those of you asking why they would do this. The answer is they are NOT supposed to. This is a disconnect switch, not a breaker. The power is supposed to be cut off first, then this switch would be opened when no power is passing through it. There are special arc suppressing breaker devices which use inert gas to prevent arcs like this from occuring. Who ever did this seriously screwed up. My guess is they had to replace this switch after this happened.

  • @BriagoMoore they were filming it, i guess it was on purpose

  • @BriagoMoore that arc could, in theory, jump elsewhere, right? No one seemed overly concerned...I would've hit the deck.

  • @BriagoMoore I am guessing that one pole of the circuit breaker it is connected to wasn't working and didn't open, seeing as only one of the switches was arcing, thus there was still power on that one phase. The same thing happened in a 330kV substation where I used to work several years ago. There was one particular 330kV ABB breaker that was failing because of poor operating rod construction and we had to replace all of them in our network, maybe the same thing happened here?

  • can you touch it let me see what happens... lol

  • Not exactly a dike that you can plug your finger into.

  • woof!

  • what on the earth was that??

  • 1.21 gigawatts!!!!

  • Cool clip, but .. what exactly is that particular function used for, normally? The station seems designed to be able to do just that, but why? :)

  • @yseeker23 thats the buzz-bars being opened under load to shut off supply to the grid

  • Damn electricity! YOU SCARY!

  • FUCK BUISSNESS IMA BE AN ELECTRICIAN AND JUST LOOK AT THIS ALL DAY LONG

  • Wow I'm pretty sure they just achieved time travel

  • These are R & D experiments of a taser gun project for Andrew Bynum..:D

  • lol love it...

    BRRRUSSEHHRRRRRRR---- owh!

  • @westvil1 not really a purpose, an electrical arc like this is a failure. In this case the electric circuit is not properly being broken before the switches are activated causing it to "jump" and continue the circuit, which you see as an arc.

  • Lol the guy at the end WOO!

  • fuck yeah! humans are awesome

  • OH SHIT

  • Command & Conquer becoming a reality? (Tesla coil)

  • and why does it always makes thouse effects? Can anyone explaine it to me?

  • @desfire13

    Air is also a conductor

you need about 2000-3000 Volts to ionize (When it is ionized its conductive) 1mm air at normal pressure.

But if you want to know it in detail read the wiki article about the electric arc.

My english is to bad to explain it easy to you, but may this link help you :)

  • Thats probably the way we will go in Nether (Hell)

  • @desfire13 Minecraft reference ftw :D

  • Fuck that tree branch...

  • what is the purpose of an electrical arc?

  • Now this is a time warp! LOL :O

  • Whoa...

  • making some ozone :)

  • LIGHTBULB! :D

  • The purpose is this. The substation operators Opened up the disconnects to deenergized equipment that maintainence needs to work on. And when they open up the disconnect that huge arc occurs

  • whats the purpose of it? (beside being awesome)

  • Hell yeah it's real that's 500 KV!!

  • thats what happens when i ride stationary bikes

  • lol at the guys at the bottom left, there all "WTF!"

    And is this real?

  • lolololololololo, did you heard that, brief "woh!!!" at the end?

  • HOLY SHIT!!!

  • finaly someone with the right name for this video, most people call it a tesla coil or a jacob ladder wtf, its a fricken sub station

  • I use this as dental floss.

  • red alert anyone?

  • That was sick

  • this is in no way fake. the load going through this switch is about 33MVA while you house uses about 1 kVA at most. this is transmission line so as it says its voltage is 500kV. this is also an air break which is not a load breaking switch therefore when you open them the potential difference between the switch and load side is so large it creates an arch that can easily become that large. Although this does not happen often because most subs have load break switches which will not arch.

  • tihs is not fake. its just a big switch. 500kv is huge. thats 500,000 volts!

  • I just love the echo.

  • HOLY SH#T THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS?!!!

  • teleport

  • fake

  • looks fake?s it Fake?

  • @SilentbutCool19 How can this look fake? it's electricity it behaves like that in real life.

  • Good god, now thats a spark to give an electrician nightmares on the repair work to follow.

  • it's a ht contact it's normal

  • so if this is not fake, then its AWESOME!!!

  • that is so BADASS

  • wow mystic

  • how to make this?

  • the electricity in the air where you are at is just ecstatic

  • That was so cool.

  • i love the sound of electricity in the morning

  • wat als er iets fout gaat op mijn werk

  • omfg!

  • dude i want massive tesla coils now

  • the guys at the bottom left at the end where like WTF

  • TIME TRAVEL

  • TIME TRAVEL SEQUENCE INITIATED

  • Definately not fake! Thats .5MV (Mega Volts) with god knows how much current flowing though it!!!

  • Not fake.

500 KV opening with full load.

  • Fake but cool.

  • @youngeagle14 that's not fake you dumbass.....

  • @youngeagle14 Not even close to being fake, you twit. It's just like arc welding, only a few hundred times higher voltage.

  • YES!! YESSSSS! IT'S ALIVE! MY CREATION IS FINIS-.....damnit....

Imagine if they had a catapult and shot something at that wave electricity

  • @BigTymerPimp LMAO :)

  • Lol, that guy at the end "WHAT!?"

  • ok guys especially @CartoonEds, how the fuck is this fake? wat r u fuckin retarded or sumthin?

  • excuse me sir, he was just trying to be funny...he is imitating a 'troll,' because according to a fellow youtuber, that's what trolls do. They post "fake and gay" on the videos...and it seems to me as if he's trying to start some sort of trend in the comment area by sayinf fake and gay in multiple videos...kind of like, "did he died" about half a year ago.

  • Cool story bro.

  • @tonebone8 Did he died tho?

  • "Look away from the Ark Marion, look away from the Ark!!"

  • RIDE THE LIGHTNING

  • Honey! Grab the marshmallows!

  • LMAO rwj

  • You should stick a fork in a toaster. Electricity is just a myth.

  • elaborate...I'm interested

  • @b0b95eg how?

  • How now brown cow?

  • rofl

  • @b0b95eg GAY

  • @b0b95eg did you know how toaster works? rofl

  • @b0b95eg not much happened, the toaster just stopped toasting, and my toast was only half toasted...

  • YOU are the one who is fake and gay!..Fake-Gay-Man!!

  • Extra crispy.

  • thats amazing.

  • If I haven't seen shit like this in person I would think it was fake

  • Seems to me, someone discovered time travelling.

  • thats one huge arc

  • Kyrene and Palo Verde are two 500kV substations, so I wouldn't say this CAN NOT BE 500kV. Chances are it is, other wise they wouldnt have said it was

  • This video is going across the world

    Really nice. 5/5

  • lol. It's there for about 5 seconds and then...*POOF* it's just gone

  • ^^^

things you would never want to hear a girl say, lmfao.

    sorry had to say it

  • @TheJAIR1M

    Say what?

  • @June28July Look at MueldersX comment on the ~10th comment page

  • @TheJAIR1M

    Oh, I see! LOL!

  • not five hundred, but when its that high, youre still going to be brown and crispy, so it really doesnt matter.

itd be like the difference between getting shot 10 times, or 100 times, youre still dead.

  • Nice, I want it !

  • i agree with itsduh, my dad is a lineman and he took Substation [matinence] and he knows. This cannot possibly be 500,000v... its more like 110 Kv to 130Kv. transformed down to 7,900v. which is sent to the A-switches and out to the main lines.

  • St Elmos fire effect?

  • Damn, that is really cool.

  • whoa

  • Not just high voltage, extra high voltage!

  • 500kv stations are a trip to work in. so much static in the air you can't even touch anything metal without getting static shock. your hair raises up on your body too.

  • This guy seems to know his shit, listen to him everyone.

  • more power, more power....

  • lofl

  • :O

    ...pretty lights...

  • As an electrician....I wanna see this live..

  • I am electrician too and i didn't see anything like that. How is it like in real.

    I was only see 110kV.

  • cool video : )

  • aaah, aaah. aaah

  • Holy shit!

  • shit!

  • Those disconnectors opened on-load.lol. That shouldnt happen.First the circuit breakers must be turned on. Disconnectors must be opened when the load is off for maintenance reasons.

  • the disconnects weren't opened under load. what you are seeing is the static electricity from hundreds of miles of transmission lines. if it was opened under load the discos would vaporize. you would see nothing but a big ball of plasma.

  • Reactors are often switched with disconnect switches rather than breakers. With the numbers given in the info on the video the current would be a little over 100A.

  • Does that happen because the switch doesn't have a big enough gap?

  • They don't happen if the supression circuits are working. Sometimes they do fail do to lack of maintainance or not following correct proceedure.

  • I want to work in that station.

  • you wont die if you touch that... srsly

  • lololololololololol

  • Well, if it's offline, then not ;P

  • that would be a really painful saw trap!!!

  • FUCK ME !!!!!!!!

  • That looks insanely awesome.

  • Ten film dowodzi, że spawara z Quake'a istnieje w rzeczywistości.

  • HAHAHAHAHA, dobre :DDD

  • wyjebane w kosmos

  • nieźle :P

  • BeepIL that is definately not a Tesla Coil or as it is also known Lightning Generator. they are substation switch gears.

  • tesla coil

  • Нихренасе дуга

  • You say you used to climb high voltage towers. This sould make you think twice. They where videoing this to show a supplier that they had gotten a fault disconnect.

  • Can you say holy bleep?

  • Not bad considering this is daylight.

  • for some reason i find this very creepy

  • They usually blow some compressed air through the gates to blow out the arc, guess they didnt on that one.

  • HOLY HELL!!! ---

  • That looks insanely awesome.

  • greate !
