What's funny about this is the first time I saw it, and before Dorothy answered Rose's question, I was trying to imagine a dead paper bird. The only thing I can picture was an upright paper bird tipped over to its side. Dead.
I also love Rose's face when she's trying to process the same thing as well.
"Well ofcourse I had a pet... :)" How I miss her so dearly! Her tone of voice says it all from the moment she opens her mouth I started laughing this line had it all LOL
@glittersmack My fave was Blanche!!! :D I love the Mrs. Doolittle scenes though.
Blanche was queen of the slut people lol. xD nah, but I loved her acting! :) and Bea and Rue in Maude were awesome too! :'( miss stuff like that you know? Every tv show is bullshit now. I wish I could go back to the 80's....
This is a wonderful scene....I love this show and all the talented ladies who starred in it, but I must say that Bea Arthur was my ultimate fave! Her timing was incredible and her deliveries were flawless...such a funny woman! This "paper bird" scene is almost as funny as the "Mrs Doolittle doll" story scene in Season 5!
Dorothy: So everyday I'm being very good and praying and looking for any sign of life, and becoming very attached to that ridiculous paper bird. So you can imagine in my heartbreak when one morning I find it dead.
Rose: How does a paper bird die?
Dorothy: Good question! Someone used it to restart the pilot light.
I laughed so hard when I first watched the episode with this particular Dorothy story. And up until today it is one of Dorothy's stories that makes me laugh the most. I don't know why. I think it's meanly because of the way she tells it rather than the story itself. That Bea Arthur truly was a genious of acting, may she rest in Peace.
Lol @ Sophia! "They're very clean." Hahaha and Rose..."How does a paperbird die?" Lmao! This show seriously is the best. It set the precedent for the next generation of sitcoms. The references are outdated today but the show was absolutely ahead of its time. Its funnier than most of the shyt they show nowadays.
this is one of my all time fav of bea-dorthy cuz why would a paper bird die ask rose it seems she FINALLY graps a concept of conversation after all this time LOL love it then bea says Some one used it to lite a pilot how cruel LOL
i love this story haha...i included this in my monologue for our scene night at school......some of the older people who love the golden girls said it brought back memories
"And everyday I'm being very good, and praying, and becoming very attatched to that ridiculous paper bid. And you can imagine my heartbreak, when one morning I find it DEAD...."

I positively LOVE the way Rose says: "How does a paper bird die?" The way she says it, makes her (for a short moment) seem sober and intelligent.
