I doubt they're going to see much more of a worthwhile increase by adding unnecessary performance. For now, graphical realism on a home console has plateaued. Besides, Nintendo is the innovator, Sony and Microsoft just cater to the fratboys and the fanboys by taking everything in the Nintendo console, giving it coffee, and giving it a new name.

Kay, so by 2012 I need to invest in a 3D TV, save $400 for the system, probably save about $300 to buy all three remotes for multiplayer (with a screen and shiz they'll probably be $100 each), and then save a few hundred dollars for new games for this system... Of course there are other kinds of computing power, but if the graphics are on par with current gen it's gonna be a tough time for nintendo - the technology is already outdated today. Nintendo is the best gaming company. They're always one step ahead of the competition. They brought motion control to the gaming world, and right when Sony and Microsoft start putting out motion control, Nintendo is already planning the next innovation to the business, like a 3D portable or this new "Project Cafe. Nintendo is and will always be one step ahead and though maybe they don't perfect their craft as much as the other companies do, they always set the trend and leave others in the dust

One step up on innovation, YES. But Xbox and PS4 will be true next gen consoles that will blow this out of the water. I know Nintendo doesnt care about the hardcore graphics, but to price this on par with what a PS4 or 720 might sell for, it won't be able to sway the casual gamer who bought the Wii for 300.

If Nintendo really wanted to push innovation they should have developed this new console to support future resolutions beyond 1080p, cause you know the next consoles will.

1. crappy gimick named 3DS gets owned by masterpiece NGP

2. motion controller owned by no controller ( kinect ) and motion controller with much better games( move).

why do consoles always use outdated technology?

If the rumor is true and I remember correctly, the R700 series GPU is used in the HD4xxx series of graphics cards, released back in 2008.

I'm with you! I'm hoping for HD support to make it more of a competitor to other mainstream consoles as well as more third party support and additional games from these companies. One of the things that kept me from getting a Wii for a while was fear that the console would never be worth my money if I only like 2 or 3 of the Mario games offered without any third party games of interest to me. Let's hope it's not called "Project Cafe" though. Wii 2 sounds much cooler.
