  • I get it, I will have to practice it a few times though. The knot is VERY strong! Thanx for the video, I will be using this knot on my brand new crab trap.

  • Here's the rabbit hole. the rabbit comes out of the hole, runs around the tree, and goes back down the hole

  • @LaRobertos its a bowline not rocket science

  • this makes me think to play castle or a prank hmmmmmmmm

  • Beautiful thank you so much!

  • Iove it

  • What's so great about the bowline knot.... what do you use it for. Somebody pleaze tell meh

  • @coltontonamor an example i recently used is when cutting down a tree, you could wrap the rope around the tree and pull using the two rope ends, or i you use this bowline knot, you can wrap the rope around the tree and instead of pulling on two ropes, you can pull on one rope therefore extending your ropes length by nearly two times, this ensures that the possibility of you getting hurt is decreased.

  • @coltontonamor For rescue missions and any other activity that shouldn't squeeze a person, etc.

  • People that are saying they can use it for suicide are stupid. A bowline knot does not slide!

  • Haul on the Bowline the Bowline Haul.

  • i can tie this with my eyes closed and one handed because i knot that way and check out my vid on how to tie it one handed and way faster

  • This one is easy. There is also the running bowline, double bowline, bowline on a bight...

  • This knot is technically being tied correctly -- but in real-world sailing, you won't be tying a "naked" bowline (creating an empty loop). The bowline is mostly used to attach the line TO something, such as the sheet to the clew of a sail, or the halyard being tied to the head. Practice this knot by tying it TO a post or table leg in front of you. Join us at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle for SailNOW! lessons including more fun knot-tying!

  • the little brown eel comes out of the hole

    swims around the cave

and back into the hole again....hey i got it!!!!

    JAWS

  • Seven people do not know how to tie a knot --and never wanted to learn.

  • Thanks, now I know how to hang myself.

  • @Crexu LMAO

  • i have to learn this with my eyes closed

  • do it with one hand and ur a sailor

  • learned this one in the navy lol marlinspike

  • you can also tie a figure 8 with the extra rope onto the loop, it will keep extra security so the rope doesnt come loose, because it can.

  • 7 people who disliked this=fucking dumb

  • you will need:

    Rope

    Hands

    Free Time

  • AHA!!! All this time, I've been cinching it wrong!

  • you will need brain, arms, table, computer to watch this video, mouse, keyboard etc.

  • I did this at schol lol

  • @trg1408

THE BOWLINE KNOT IS NOT TO BE USED AS THE HANGMAN KNOT. PERIOD.

  • @clawsy56 WHAT DO WE USE AS THE HANGMAN KNOT THEN? DICKHEAD.

  • @Marioking707 The slipknot.

    Duh.

  • @trg1408 great now i can tie off my white friends cocks for being so small

  • @trg1408 LOL!!! That made me laugh xD

  • A Frenchman I met was extolling the virtues of the 'noeud de chaise' (chair knot). I laughed when I realized it was a bowline.

  • sounds like he is saying bowling LOL

  • @kikonin0

That's exactly what he is saying as that is how it is pronounced. Why? I don't know but this knot is said as "bow lynn".

  • @canopus101

It's true that the knot is pronounced that way but who cares that's how all the people who use it call it. But then again bow line would sound weird.

  • Here's an idea. Why dont you show the sequence using different camera angles - that will confuse em eh?

  • This helped a lot with my veterinary work. Thanks.

  • this helped with my firefighting class

  • good for hanging yourself

  • Eh, that's the slow way of doing it.

  • i needed for fire fighting course, thanks

  • this helps me a lot in scouting

  • @gerlitochagas 3 words

    I

    Know

    Right!

  • This video would have been much better if the last sections didn't have the text blocking the viewer's view of the knot. You have to pause or replay the video repeatedly in order to see the finished knot.

  • Only need this one to pass on to the next set of knots for firefighting and I still don't quite understand

  • i needed this for subaqua,,thanks

  • this is how to remmber it, the bunny comes out of his hole, he runs around the tree from the fox, then comes back in the hole.

  • Needed this to attach lines to my kite. Great help thanks :)

  • thks. u just taught me one of the knots that i need to tie tmr for npcc promotion test. if i pass, i will be very grateful.

  • tq help me alot in scouts

  • good video

  • O:O1 to skip add

  • would have helped more if you didn't keep flipping the camera angle

  • thanks was in training for my new job the other day and out of the blue we apparently had ot have the common sense to tie a knot..the way thebook they provided explined it I felt helpless..i learned it on my first try wathcng this vid..so for that I say thank you :)

  • Finally, here's somebody on Youtube who has tied the bowline correctly.

  • Ty, for boyscouts!!

  • This is not how to

  • U must be American because in da uk we say it pronounced bow line not bowl ine

  • @minieasom so alot uv peepl r

  • nice rope, good bowline check out my channel more knots

  • TY i needed to know this for a test in my lvl 1 carpentry program

  • thanks, i needed to know this for scouts lol

  • Thanks, this help me with my scout master conference I had to ^.^

  • By the way; did you know that there are at least 126 ways to make 112 different Bowlines?

  • @kkigkt: and they all work. But.... only this method will get your scout badge. GREAT VIDEO!

  • Dear MrShoeguy,

    A bowline is a loop.

The sheet bend is used for connecting 2 different ropes, for instance to make fast a rope to a flag, SIR!!!

  • Ah yes, but do you know how to tie a "dragin bowline"?

  • These have to become second nature to you in any fire department, bitch at first, but easy eventually

  • It doesn't help when you change angles on a knot tying video, jackasses.

  • LOL!! Agree

  • @LukeDSimpson If you didn't get this, you're retarded.

  • Has anyone ever noticed this is the exact same knot as the sheet bend? Just turn this knot over and look at it. It looks a little different because the tail of the half hitch part goes a different direction but it is the same knot.

  • these` are very usefull.....i need to learn them for scout

  • Thanks, that was a useful video.

  • Is that supposed to be funny or serious? Either way it's a pretty dumb statement.

  • thank you for teaching my grandmother to tie a bowline

  • So helpful!

Now I know how to tie a bowline! Yay!

  • the bowline knot was forbidden in climbing and rescue for some time because it is a very dangerous knot! It is easy to make a mistake while making it! And without the safety knot on the loose end, it is very dangerous even when it is well tied!

  • With regards to sasha11070, rock climbing comment. "8" knots are always taught to beginners due to the old safety reason myth, however anybody who has taken a fall and tried to untie their 8 knot afterward will be interested in the bowline knot. Bowline knots are NOT unsafe and are used by most advanced climbers. Didn't you watch the video? It's the king of all knots!

  • Don't forget to leave enough tail for the safety knot. But very good video there are main ways to tie this knot.

  • The rabbit comes up the hole, around the tree and back down the hole.

However this isn't the best way to tie this knot in practice.

There's another description on youtube using the 'key in ignition method' (his description, and a good one) which is faster and more reliable once you get the hang of it.

Try doing this on a wet, heaving boat at night.

  • Lol, thats basically how they taught us at the fire academy.

  • Damn, I just did it with my rope, and that is a REALLY useful knot to know, very very useful.

  • I did it! Im'm happy, she's knot.

  • hey dose any body know were to get or buy paracord

  • Military surplus shops, google it.

There's also different kinds of paracord, you can look that up too, I'll leave it at that (:

  • cool thanks you

  • They're just lucky all the people who need to know how to tie knots for killing purposes already know how to make them thanks to the boy scouts, otherwise Howcast would have a lot of blood on their virtual hands.

  • you sir are a fucking tool! they are also used for sport climbing because of there ease of release same reason in sailing! retard!

  • huh?....im a boyscout

  • Comment removed

  • thanks....really helpful and clearly performed

  • Thank you! I am terrible with knots, and your video was the most understandable of the 4 I looked at !

  • what is it with people saying that it's for emos and ppl wanting to hang themselves?...it's not a noose, dumbasses. it's a knot...

  • 1. make the bunny hole

    2. make the bunny come out of the hole

    3. around the tree

    4. back in the hole

  • i try`d doing that way once and rabbit eas a retard. it got a lough

  • its not a nouse... they are harder to tie

  • no they're not. I learned from my dad when I was in elementary school....teachers used to 'love' them

  • @xin3000 a nouse is not hard to tie...

  • Wow, you have a sick, sick imagination. -_-

  • your stupid

  • i rock and so do you!!!!!!!!!!!!
