Hi, I'm have the same mouthpiece with the same opening, 8*. But I have some problem with the upper register. I use Rigotti reeds N2 strong. Probably the problem is in the reeds? Too Hard? I have to use 2 medium o 2 soft reeds?
The Jody Jazz HR model has a nice darker sound for traditional jazz sounding soprano. I have been meaning to get one as I like to experiment with different sounds.
Definitely harlem Nocturn, then improv, then some crazy sick gliss-like stuff, and a high G i think to finish. Nice. I cant play soprano that well, but i played Nocturn on tenor
the 8* and 7* you are referring to are tip openings of the mouthpiece. Meaning the distance between the reed and the tip of the mouthpiece. The larger the tip opening the more air you have to put through the horn. I suggest you go try some mouthpieces before you make a purchase because no one can really advise you on what you want.
@cnelson90 generally you don't want to ask these kind of general questions on youtube. But in any case, the numbers are the size of the tip opening, and the * means it's a shorter facing, sort of like a half step between 2 tip openings. It doesn't affect the sound, only the difficulty, and the amount of expression possible. If you're serious, a jodyjazz dv is what he's using, so you might want to try that, but they run about $450 US new.
Can I have this piece if you don't want it?

All I can think of is Bruce Almighty: "Hey Evan, do you like jazz?"

i love your style of playing! it doesn't have that whiny high-pitched R&B tone that kenny g's playing possesses

I think the intonation is a little off with this piece - surprising for a Jody Jazz as his other pieces I've played were very good with it..
