what detrmines how far apart the frets are from each other?? I have an old 90s warlock, and a 2011 Gunslinger 22 fret, yet the Gunslinger frets are kinda far apart compard to my old warlock. Any ideas why?
well improper truss rod is just one of the possible causes for fret buzz and it's typically in the 5th to 10th register. most of the fret buzz occur because of poor leveling jobs or wrong neck angle. sometimes it is induced by old strings. so if you're buying a used guitar and it buzzes, it may just be the strings or maybe something beyond that like unleveled frets
I'm having string buzz but its only on the E and A strings. I'm pretty sure its the frets and it stops buzzing around the middle of the neck when i fret those two strings. Not sure what to do exactly, noticed the buzzing after I changed the strings maybe I could change the E and A first to see if that helps.
THAT WAS GREAT ADVICE - I GET SOMEONE TO TUNE MY GUITAR - TO RESTRING MY GUITAR - TO POLISH MY GUITAR - AND TO PLAY MY GUITAR - BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT ANY OF THAT, BUT EVEN I AM NOT STUPID ENOUGH TO LOOK DOWN THE FUCKING NECK AND TRY AND JUDGE THE RELIEF OF THE NECK - DEPRESS THE 6th STRING AT THE 12th AND 1ST FRET AND SEE IF YOU HAVE ABOUT .010 OF AN INCH SPACE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE STRING AND THE TOP OF THE 6th FRET - DO THE SAME WITH 1st STRING - THEN LOOK AT YOU-TUBE, NOT THE NECK!
1) you don't GET someone, you learn to fix these things yourself.
2) you don't run your finger up to check buzz. You PICK the string.
3) bottom line: all the fret tops must be level to a straight edge and that is with the neck perfectly flat/level (using truss rod after loosening strings to achieve that).
If they are buzzing a lot and/or grooved, a fret job may be necessary based on action required.
And, I might add that the factory always sets them up to an average, or in-between standard. I've bought guitars that were nearly perfect "out of the box," while others had to be readjusted. It all comes down to your own playing style and preferences. If you don't want to learn to adjust them yourself, most good dealers will readjust it to your preferences, usually for free when you buy one from them, or for a inexpensive fee later on.
@MASTERMARK360 even the best guitars may need to be set up before or after you buy them. Makers of quality guitars set them up at the factory very well, but you gotta figure that when they're shipped out to a dealer, they're bounced around in a truck for days, sometimes. So, when they arrive at the dealer, they can be out of whack quite a bit. A factory has no control over this and shouldn't be held to blame. Most reputable dealers set them up before they're sold, or if you ask when you buy it.
@MASTERMARK360 ya it was just an all around really cheap guitar. i bought it to have something to lounge around with cuz my dean is uncomfortable to sit down with, and no matter how hard i tried i couldn't get the action as low as i wanted. last fixed bridge guitar for me.
@MASTERMARK360 I got an old esp grassroots horizon with a licenced floyd from the mid 90's, once i sorted the bridge saddles out - lowest ones were in the middle and highest were on the outside strings from the factory (wtf) and i set action low, vertually no fret buzz, I'm quite surprised!! people slag these off but it's a really decent guitar now. i've also put in seymour duncans and cts pots. wouldn't sell it.
help help i have a question which no matter how i search i find no answer, i ave a guitar an old one, and while in another country i got a cable from the guitar to my amp but the head phone inlet on the guitar is not headphone inlet but a large round laptop tv out socket looking inlet socket, wat is it called so I know what to buy, i live in a country where music shops are far apart so asking is hard to do,
