Water got spilled on my Macbook and it only cost me $25 to buy a used keyboard for it, and learned how to replace it myself. Better yet, I bought the used keyboard from a Mac repair store and they checked its serial # cuz it's refurbished, and turns out they could contact Apple to send in a new keyboard for free and mark the old one as defective. So I got my Macbook looking like new again for only $25!
yeah you can get those specs in a laptop for cheaper than 800 bucks nowadays cause from what i heard the specs in that desktop arent all that impressive (besides the soundcard)
Most of you guys are rite ..yes mac its a great lap... so as pc is like that guy said should i get a toyota or a chevy ..or mayb a nissan mmm i guess i just get the cadi.. im pc i have owned 3 toshibas satelite and i worked few times with mac pro ...they both worked great ..just do ur window shopping rite n get what u want ..and bout a desktop wow thats all i have to said if u cant affort a laptop ..its k but carring a desktop 2 a gig may the almigty bless ur ass jajaja
Drop the laptop - junk. Spill onto the laptop - junk. Get a little hard handed with a laptop - junk. Add memory or hard drive to laptop - expensive. Cooling on laptop - sucks compred to PC. Weight - laptop obviously lighter but it's also prone to damage. Mine is a PC in a 2U rackmount case and I used a 2U blank to mount my outputs I need accessable from front. Everything fits in a nice roll around custom case with carpet including 2 tb of drive space (1 tb mirrored). On WHEELS
What o you mean expensive? I just installed 2 gb of RAM into my laptop this morning, the RAM was 25 dollars and the labor was fun. I will be upgrading my Asus 1000 he to 500 GB in 3 days... You are right though, lappies get too hot, and are very fragile.
Expensive to repair - crack your screen and it's $300 easy, spill on it and it's $400 for a motherboard easy, wear out the keyboard and depending on the machine it could be $40 to $120. Ram is nothing but still a little higher than PC memory. Put a custom PC together and you choose the processor, motherboard with options you need, expansion cards you need, power supply wattage, type of case and color, size of monitor (and way cheaper than replacing a display on a lappy), etc.
And I have been having problems with the intel atom cpu I got, But, If I spent as much money as you on a laptop, it would be superior. I was hosting a free listen at my workplace today, for all the people I work with to give a listen... Bc of a laptop. But, I mixed it on a desktop. See? Maybe the TRUE Answer is BOTH. :)
I use a 13" Mac Book playing through a Griffin iMic into a Numark 5 Channel mixer. Also use a twin deck CD player plus an iPod as backup. Never let me down yet and a darn sight easier to cart around. Back in the Seventies when I started I was carrying boxes of 7 inch singles, now in my 60s I enjoy carrying as little as I can.
Too expensive, poor construction, and very little third party support. Very few people who build their own computers would even acknowledge Mac. What an idiot...
I'm an Idiot? hope you didnt mean to say that cuz honestly.... macs just work... poor construction??? i dont even have to say anything... it speaks for itself... especially the new ones... all aluminum??? too expensive?? to some... but you get what you pay for... its like a lambo or a chevy... mac or a pc... i dont think you have ever owned a mac... my argument is pointless with you =/
I have owned three, 2 overheated due to heavy over-application of thermal grease, (I build my own computers, and have never seen so much thermal grease in my life.) It was easily two tubes, and it was dripping. I have little respect for that type of ignorance. It was incredibly depraved and I cannot support that. The third was mediocre. It took almost 1 year and 5 months for it to finally die for good, by that time I had already sold it. But you get my drift.
sux for your badluck bro but doesnt make me an idiot.... ive have had my mac book pros for (1)4 years and the other for 2 years.... never had a problem. imac g5 still runnuning. i only got the new macbook pro for the all aluminum casing. as far as djing and the dj apps... the requirements r minimal and at least i know my mac wont get a blue screen during a live gig. plus 90 percent of professional dj's use macs and 95 percent of dj apps come out on mac before they do on windows. traktor pro ftw
All I have to say is that Mac may have a great OS, but the hardware is quite sad. I like having 110% control over my computer, meaning I like to know what everything runs at, how hot... what hardware exactly is in there... Because when something happens to the comp, the last thing you want to do is go to someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Mac obviously has no clue. This is NOT an isolated incident. I have seen MANY people with thermal grease dousing and many other HUMAN mistakes.
You are an idiot!PC's have way better hardware and software! There is also more driver support for PC's!Plus I can buy 2 desktops or 2 laptops or even 1 of each for the price that I could buy a MAC.Face it man PC's are better than mac's.Everybody knows it you!You and the other peple
all legit professional dj's (i.e: dj am ztrip etc...) use macbooks. all the hottest electro and hip hop composers (i.e: LMFAO BEP) use macbook pros and mac pros... i wonder why.... and dont call me an idiot... if i couldnt afford a mac i would settle for a pc. pcs are good but i hate using them. Macs last forever. they are great quality computers. may not have supercrazy hardware but the quality is unmatched.
laptop is the best, i have a echo indigo dj sound card, and a wd 250 gb external hd power by usb port, 6,000 plus tracks with room for another 150,000 tracks and trator 3. for those cheapos out here there is a trator 2.5 with code key in lime wire,(free) have an anti virus ready cause they have trojans, once you get rid of the virus you have a traktor 2.5 fully open. if you making money djing then buy the fucking program,
i dont believe it is cost effective because although desktops are much cheaper than laptops, u still have to buy other stuff like and lcd monitor, which is not cheap, and maybe wireless mouse and keyboard, i use laptop. more convenient
I agree laptops are more convenient, and now you can get nice laptops with similar specs to mine for around 600-700 dollars on ebay. One thing is I would still want XP and not Vista. Which is hard on a laptop since most are store bought. Pros and cons on both sides :)
Might be worth mentioning that people using a laptop may have a humm or a buzz when their audio is amplified and the laptop is running from its charger. If this happens you will need a DIBOX to clean the signal. Perhaps this is whats happening with Zmans friends set up? I used a Laptop and hated it. Then used an old iMAC with touch screen but it was too slow, now use a Tower PC with 3 soundcards and USB decks so I can beat match. Then Sax and Dottys using onboard.
This problem is easily fixed by pluggin in your audio source (computer, laptop, dj equipment) into a different power strip than your equipment that is playing the sound. You are experiencing a "ground loop" . let's just say been there done that...

The Audigy BLOWS... in fact pretty much every PC sound card does. Thats why a DJ should want to get a USB 2.0 or Firewire external audio interface.

Spill a drink on a keyboard = new keyboard.
Do the math. see the difference?
