  • Samba is another beautiful folk dance, but this one has origins in Angola, a country also invaded by the old Portuguese Empire. It comes from the word Semba and it was used first by African slaves settled in Brazil as a social manifestation against the humiliation and opression ruled by the Portuguese government.

  • The Portuguese invaded my country back in the 1800/1900s(i 4got my history) but this dance is nice ^.^

  • lol isto nao e nas twin towers?

  • damn id get dizzy :p im glad im portuguese

  • I was born in Lisbon Portugal, and i used to do this dnce all the time :) But since I moved here to CT i never got back to doing these dances.. Oh how I love it :) And for all of you who dont like then dont comment or watch its simple.

  • just like goa !!!!11

  • My Grandma was from Portugal. Born in 1881. Came to America on a "sailing ship around the Horn" when she was four years old. She used to talk about dancing something called: "Shama-Rita" I have no idea how it is spelled in Portuguese. :-) She was not allowed to go to school, so never learned to read or write. Her father sent her to work when she was 12 yrs. old!

  • @catzmama This dance really exists, it's called chimarrita or chama-rita (call Rita) and it comes from Azores, Portugal. It's also present in Brazil.

  • I am proud of half portugal!!! I thank my grandfather's blood of portugal. He was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1907. He imgrated to America in 1920.

  • Just for my own collection. Although I no longer collect regular music CDs unless it's not possible to download them to my iTunes. Another reason is that a professional DVD put out for sale might be longer and clearer.

  • More! LOVE it! Cannot get enough. I want to be able to order more CDs and some DVDs from U.S. stores like Amazon.

  • why would order any cd or dvds when u can watch them for free on youtube

  • Gostei!! De qual regiao de Portugal é ista dança??? No ano passado viajei a Lisboa e pude ver um festival de ranchos folclóricos. Eles tem danças tao lindas.

  • does this look like samba to you? lol NO

  • absoluely not.

  • Samba is Brazilian.

  • I know that.

  • @ahajahaba2 poi nao LOL :)

  • samba is a result if mixure between portuguese and african culture

  • I like that samba.

  • Samba não tem nada a ver com dança portuguesa, graças a Deus!

  • can u read the title ?.its folk dance

  • Hi...

I'm actually interested in getting the song for a portuguese folk dance for my children in my class... Where do you think i am able to get it???? I'm living in Singapore...

  • best folk dances r in da minho :)

  • never seen anything like it in america they dress a little more interesting

  • of corse, they must distract atentions from all the fat they have under the clothes. Long live fast food... BTW, USA doesnt have Folk music. Folk is a product of thousands os years and not of a few centuries. The Folk u see in Portugal is the same than Hundreds of years ago. Thats called HERITAGE, something US DOENST HAVE!

  • im talking about the portuguese people in America... lol im portuguese so i watch alot of it i like the dance they also move a bit faster in america

  • You should notest that Folk in Portugal is not the same everywhere. In this video, the group dancing is not from Minho witch is the region almost everyone assciate to folk music. The joyfull dances and colorfull dresses are almost always from Minho. Despite that, the fast dances are modern inventions. In the oldtimes, folk was played slowly and danced moderatly. Today it's almost only show off.. Partuclary ALTO MINHO folk who dance frenetically.. But thats what the crowd whants..

  • Cool video...I also studyed Portuguese. I lived there for 6 months.

  • Mad! =)

  • This Folklore is from Ribatejo... North of Lisbon Coast Area. Thank you for sharing.

  • The men dress like Keebler elfs.

  • viva portugal! caralho and you probably look like a keebler elf.

  • ROFL not all the costues look like that, ive never seen that dress before so i dunno what region but thats funny. xD

  • Thats funny I never thought of that yor right LOL

  • they're dressed like "campinhos" the men that guide the bulls used to dress like that! I'm from that part of portugal...
