the Old South Vietnamese flag has the color yellow, which represents the Vietnamese skin color. The 3 stripes represent the 3 regions of the country (North, Central, South).
The current vc communist flag has red color and one yellow star. Which means they simply borrowed/copied the idea from communist China. (look at the Chinese flag closely)

But authorship isn't as important back then as national spirit. This anthem is popular back then as it symbolizes independence and we need to portray our government as a more nationalist alternative than the Ho Chi Minh's communist dictatorship, because no Vietnamese will accept communist ideology.

The Capitol of Saigon would be famous such as Tokyo or Seoul. Here's the thing, the reason why South Korea and Japan have such beautiful cities is due to their intelligence and war time. @traicali2008 First of all, you're right that Luu Huu Phuoc is from the Vietcong. Of course we would have chosen a better anthem than this controversial one. But authorship isn't as important back then as national spirit. This anthem is popular back then as it symbolizes independence and we need to portray our government as a more nationalist alternative than the Ho Chi Minh's communist dictatorship, because no Vietnamese will accept communist ideology.
