Human sampler. I love how he juggling Good Times. Remember depending on the exact date in 79 of this tape there were no Technics 1200 MK2's yet. So there is no telling what kind of turntables he did this on. They didnt have mixers with crossfaders back then neither. Flash had to make his own xfade mixer from scratch. This is way ahead of its time for 1979. 2012 or 2079
Ok, I understand and FULLY respect these guys for founding an everlasting phase of music for the whole world, but really, the rewind he keeps doing is retarded sounding. I can back a record up 17 times does that make me a founder too?
@crnacpanker I didn't mean to sound so "new-ear-ed" to GF on that comment. I've heard his other stuff. I was probably rushed when I wrote that, anyway. I've heard his other stuff and it's great. I'm just saying, for this particular .mp3 file song thing remix, it's just a song playing with him randomly hitting the vinyl over and over again. It has nothing to do with rhythm. It's like he stepped away and a drunk raver kept bumping into the turntables... That's all.
i remember being at a park we called liberty park pool, they used to jam in front of the pool it was a big gate separated them from the pool in brick town in south jamaica queens the disco twins was rocking this was a rough area they used to rock at night this was a few blocks down from the infamous armory were everybody who was anybody in hip hop rock and some couple white boys was there that night they had a weed spot off merrick blvd there they big snakes were they kept the weed in year 78
Das waren die coolsten DJ´s und Sie werden es immer bleiben....! So geil kratzen können die NEUZEITLICHEN MP3 aufleger einfach nicht mehr! Und das mit dem Material von damals einfach genial!
Notice how (well to me) listening to these early hip hop recordings make you feel alive, excited, just want to move around and have fun and be happy, in contrast to today's techno dance rap songs that make you move and feel like a zombie.
I was all Back-Spinning and was hard as hell; saw all of these boyz back in the day from the bronx to queens; but the real shit was in the L.E.S. down by 6th & D and the Drive YO! Amazing times - dangerous as hell - there was a shooting every time! But it will be in my blood always...
I trip out when i listen to these old school recordings. I was at a lot of these jams and I was also djing back in these days. Flash was like my idol. If i would have only known how far this music was going to go back then.
@Khultan so what if he is french or jewish? Hip hop ended in '86 with tupac and those other gangstas ruining it. It was the begininng of a new type of music to dance to which was freestyle and house.
@ghosthooker3000 Haha lol, You probably would be fine with the exception of a few guys dissing on you haha. However I would be fine cause im not white lol
@ghosthooker3000 Why do you say it that way?!? And I don't really get what Klayman299 is saying because I don't think he's from that era or even from NYC, Mr. Freeze of Rock Steady Crew was a street wise white boy (French/Jewish?) and Futura 2000 was another white dude....I think it's just, if you're chill, plus it doesn't hurt if you knew some people down with this then anybody would be, generally, okay and party, get me?
All i know is can you imagine how much fucking money these early pioneers made the techniques company, the kenwood, the pioneers, ectt speakers, mikes. And i bet there where little if any endorsement deals. Boy how we got robbed.
It sounds sloppy but remember Grandmaster flash & grandwizard theodore only pioneered this style in 1975. He may have still been been using technics sl120s with a weaker torque & startup speed & most likely doing body tricks.
so when it comes to whom Flash is in relationship to Basketball. He's bigger than a m Jordan. Herc is Bigger than a L James. Brucie B, Dj Hollywood, U God, Divine, Kendu, Jazzy J, Bam, Red Alert. No DJ now plays in parks and had a wild NY on their hand. And thats if u was wack... Guns and 40 O's are coming your way. U represented some of the biggest Drug dealers at parties... pure pressure (big up to GM Vick and DeWit) for a paycheck. When u take that into account ...than u really know.
Basically, DJs were not defined because of its uniqueness and all that still had to be understood on 2 turntables and a mixer. 1 person who i felt was sick on the turntables was Wizkid. Another was Dr.Rock. Flash and Charlie Chase understanding of timing was Unique within itself. Catching a record before the breakbeat and throwing it in on time matching up with the break already playing was science within itself, and they did it well. Kendu from Queens, Dj U-God from the real cipher of Sounds.
U can never compare flash to anyone unless they started on the streets from nothing with him. By the time he battled cheese, rules and techniques where very different. flash was the originator of on time mixing. on time fast mixing. Until people caught his style which was pioneering in works... no one was doing what he was doing. And everything he did, he was discovering as he went forward. So no one can u compare with Flash, Herc, Brucie B.

Peace run666. A foundation (in short) can be defined as a base upon which everything else stands. That being said....Herc,Bam, and Flash ARE the foundation, therefore in a class of their own. We all do what we do because of them. Much like you, I got mad love for Chuck Chillout (Hip Hop On Wax, Vol 1 changed me forever), but even he wouldn't make a statement like that. i LOVE flash but again i wasnt in the bronx clubs seeing and hearing him in 1976-1983 or so..
@first40 what i can tell you though that i was at ROXY, THE FUNHOUSE, ROSELAND, UNION SQUARE, and some other clubs around 1983-1994 and ill tell you i heard and seen africa islam, funk flex, chuck and red and they went OFFF!!!!!!! i mean im talking 2-3-4000 people DEEP all going off to the sounds of the mix from them kats. and im sure it was the same with flash..
but hey- sometimes if someones the originater it dosent mean they are the BEST!!
Damn, this sounds like the "Grand Master Flash" tapes I used to get in the 70s and early 80s - REAL HIP HOP! The Furious 5 and Flash never really got their due. The world has now bitten off the culture of the South Bronx. It's painful to listen to the ignorance they call rap today.
