Is this the greatest perfect country singer and perfect country song there ever was? Yes,...especially when I've had the perfect number of beers. Waylon, RIP. Thanks for posting this wonderful live performance.
Jamey Johnson and Alison Krauss did very good covers of this song, but no one will ever do it better than Ol' Hoss himself. Country music needs a new Waylon to drown out the pop flavored crap coming out today.
Waylon's music touched the heart and soul of every man, wild and free with a depth of reality in life, love, laughter. He was and will always be the epitome of the music in the man!
The best in Country Music 100 years from. Even a 1000 years from now. Even 5000 years from now. Even after the Apocalypse and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
waylon is a true maverick. i was lucky enough to have been hearing his music ever since i was born as my mother listened to it constantly, like every day, while driving and then more at home - literally, almost every single day until the late 80's. rip w's.
Having known Waylon personally it was a real pleasure when he chose one of my pictures for his "Dreaming My Dreams" album cover. This album was also his favorite that he recorded. Waylon was the real deal and is the greatest singer of all time.
I listen to waylon, hank jr., merle, coe and I wonder what Nashville is thinking with this pop country garbage of today ( keith urban, darius rucker ). There are some positives coming out of Nashville today ( Jamey Johnson, Toby keith ) but they are few and far between. The majority of todays "country" musicians dont seem to have the heart felt music that the older, true country musicians have.
@21PRAVDA If you don't like it, don't pay attention to it. Don't let CMT and cuntry radio determine what you listen to. There's internet radio, satellite radio.
The only thing I know about what's being promoted on CMT and radio is that its not meant for me. I'm a 30 year old singleman. Modern cuntry is easy listening for 40 year old married women who drive minivans. Somehow record companies decided that this is the best way to make money. So I find what I need somewhere else.
@sweetdixieguitar Your right, country music has lost its way, no more songwriters like Kris, Mickey Newbury, Johnny, Waylon, Willy. I could go on forever but i think you know what i mean. Oliver
@pvmartin10 Hi! Saw your quesion here. I just found the chords via Google. Just write the song title and "chords", then look for the Alison Krauss version.
@pvmartin10 ....E,B, & A are correct. In the final refrain of the song he starts it in E, then B, F#, and ends on B, essentially modulating the final refrain.
Youza wouza. That is the best recording of that song I have EVER heard. What a song and what a voice. Ol Waylon has shoes that will never be filled. Thanks for posting!
This is exactly why Waylon will always be the best country music ever had. He could go from his big upbeat numbers and really rock it out and then go to this. It all came from the heart and the music meant everything. Thank goodness country music will always have Waylon, cos we sure as hell ain't got a whole lot out there right now.
Jamey Johnson does a great version of this song. Pours his heart into it as if he lived it like Waylon. I have a DVD of Waylon where he talks about Dreaming My Dreams of You as one of his all time favorite songs. He figured out that there was no point in being bitter about divorces--the person is always part of your life. It is just that the relationship changed along with the sleeping arrangments.
I had better own up to joking with you Waylon fans - Sorry. I just like being bad sometimes !
Actually this song is so beautiful that Waylon takes full credit for writing it. It's one of the best. It doesn't really matter who sings it - its always good.
I'm not a flag waver either for any country - only for good music.

The Aussies just show the rest of the world how good music should be played. If you don't think that Colleen Hewitt does a better job on Waylon's song, then how about Tommy Emmanuel showing the guitar world how to play Chet Atkins !
I can say Colleen Hewitt does a fine job, but Waylon is the man!!! Maybe if they could have done a duet like Waylon and his wife Jessi Colter on "Storms Never Last" it would have been interesting. It's not only the song, but Waylon's history is part of a what makes a legend. His Beard, Black Hat, Black Vest and Guitar was part of being a Star!!! Just like he sang in Nobody Knows I'm Elvis!!!
Are you kidding me? Aussies have to rip off our music because they don't have any of their own. Name one genre of music that was invented in Australia. You can play the songs but you don't have the history and culture to give them soul. Music is much more than diction and timing.

Well Waylon might be the man (!), but if you want to hear this song up a few octaves, and out of Waylon's boots, then click on to Aussie singer Colleen Hewitt - and then you will hear how good this song can really be !! - ie When an Aussie gets hold of it !!
Has any one heard Jamey Johnson's version of this on his new CD "That Lonesome Song"? It is an awesome version and an awesome CD. I have not heard of a recent country music singer sound so simular and great as Waylon.
I actually went out and bought Jamey's CD the other day - i really love it. reminds me of the way country music was back in the day. as for his version of this song - I think ol' waylon would love it!
Interesting - it's as quiet in the background as a studio recording - not a sound from the audience. What a great entertainer - he held the audience in the palm of his hand.
I saw Waylon at this show in London - it was so packed there was standing room only! He was brilliant and I seem to remember he sang this song quite late in the performance. Everyone that stayed behind to try and catch a glimpse of him leaving the Hammersmith Apollo was humming this song on the way home!
Waylon fought against Nashville but he wasn't stubborn,he was very intelligent. He disliked the nashville sweet arrangements but he didn't dislike the strings:The Dreaming My Dreams album has two tracks with string:the title track and Gipsy Woman. He even recorded I'm a Ramblin' Man without the Waylors but with Nashville pickers because he felt that the song just needed that.He did that in 1974 at the peack of his outlaw rebellion. He did everything for music's sake, even some idiosyncratic move.
Unlike many of the newer artists, Waylon Jennings had his own style and uniqueness. Truly a legend and unfortunately was never recognized by the country music association as such. A great talent, a great musician,
Beautiful song by a truly beautiful man.
