The Lakers beat the Celtics in the 85 finals. But had they met the Celtics in the 86 finals they would have got their asses handed to them. They couldn't even beat the Rockets in the Western Conference Finals, so there's no way in hell they would have beat Boston. In a nut shell that was a forfeit win for the Celtics.
The only teams I could think of that were better than this might have been the '96 Bulls, '87 Lakers, '83 Sixers or one of the Celtic teams from the Bill Russell era.
When I found out Bill Walton was traded to Boston before the 1985-1986 season, it was a foregone conclusion in my mind who was going to win the championship. He was PERFECT for that team.
AHHHHHH! The good old days when pro basketball was worth watching!!!!! My brother met Dennis Johnson when he was 8 years old and got his autograph for me-I was 11 at the time and thought it was so cool......
Bill Walton was the key 6th man on that team. They swept LAL by 10+ in both meetings that year. 36-6 3rd quarter in game 5 vs Hawks total domination. Game 4 on way to sweep of Bucks Larry still in the game - hits garbage 3 at the buzzer, team gets into locker room whole team chants "1,2,3 Bird!" McHale makes Sampson is a sissy disappear in finals. Larry nearly averages triple double in finals and classic Johnny call "He says here! I'm going to put a pin in the balloon right now!" vs Hou gm 6
In my opinion, for a single season the 86 Celtics are the best team of all time.

@pablocoon
Definitely one of the greatest team. It's hard to say "Best team of all time" though.

i go back and forth i can't make up my mind the 86 Celtics or the 96 Bulls which is better ? i still can't find the answer, BOTH WERE SUPER !

Its hard to see any team beating these 86 celtics. Maybe one of Jordans teams and maybe 83 76ers or 87 lakers. Maybe.

Only lost ONE game at home all year? That's unbelievable!!!

The Cavs would've tied that record this year if Mike Brown didn't sit the starters during the last home of the game season.

But they wouldn't have capped it off w/ a championship anyway.
jp3813 2 years ago
The record includes the playoffs where they were 10-0 at home. So no, the Cavs wouldn't have matched this.
