This movie is wonderful and the characterizations are superb. I love just how needy they both are. He is dying inside because he has had to hide who he really is for so long. Lee is just as wounded and lost. What I find interesting that although she submits herself to him, it is ultimately she who takes control of the relationship and makes him play her hand.

Seeing as the submissive always retains the power of choice, it is not lost. The reason men are commonly the dominant party has a lot do with what women find attractive in men as well as male leadership qualities. The notion that dominant = superior is probably the greatest misconception about BDSM.
