  • I need some help dude, i got to Fl Stuido and do my drum beats there i save them as .wave and import them into sonar le, if i put double bass+crashes it sounds like it was recorded with a potato and its extreamly sloppy, Is there any way to fix this?

  • great video man :):)

  • how do you ensure that you have the correct instruments on the right midi notes. My kit my have a snare where you've programmed a midi kick drum hit.

  • Does anyone use Sonar in combination with the M-Audio Fast Track interfaces? I have followed these instructions, and the time indicator moves, but I can't get any sound out of the VST. I use the Session Drummer 3, and I haven't been able to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

  • so, are those the default midi sounds? or is there a way to use alternate "kits"? i've been trying to figure that out, but i can't find the answer.

  • Dude how do I change midi instrument in a track?

  • Please tell me.

Why MIDI tracks don't have DB METER?

How am I supposed do a mix without meters?

Programs like Fruity Loops and Cubase display DB Meter of Midi tracks.

Is there a way to fix it. thanks.

  • Interesting... My fist instinct and guess would be that MIDI isn't actually SOUND. MIDI is 'instructions' that a sound source uses to create sound. So not being sound it doesn't actually have and "DB" to show.

Rather, look at the 'sound source' for the actual output volume. The volume of the MIDI file will depend entirely on the volume of the sound and type of sound being played from the source.

Audio has "DB", but MIDI has "Velocity".

Does that help or just confuse things?

  • There's a way to convert a midifile in mp3 or wav file?

  • 1. In sonar you can simply EXPORT as a wave file.

    3. Somebody told me that Windows Media Player will automatically convert them easily, but I haven't tried it.

    2. There are a hundred thousand different converters you can find by doing a Google search...

However, most people want more control over the actual sound so I would suggest doing a 'real-time record' using whatever sound source you listen to the MIDI files in.

  • @mididrumfiles Wow, I wished I would have known THAT before!

  • I mapped the midi drums, how do I convert this midi sounds to audio each instrument on a separate track preparing for mixing... thanks in advance

  • hi, what's the deal with the latency? I use an m-audio controller with the cheapo m-audio software called Sessions, and there's no latency at all.

  • Yeah, I think in general Latency probelms are becoming less and less frequent as technology gets better and computers get faster.

  • This tutorial helped when the help file and a Sonar 7 book didn't. I hope I can buy this guys midi files.

  • Hey, thanks for the kind words.

  • Why is there always one ass that shows up for the sole purpose of being negative? It's like jermaineIndustryAnalwhore feels threatened that someone would use a different tool. i think Sonar is awesome. It has its flaws, but so does Logic and every other DAW. At the end of the day talent is going to determine the final product anyway.

    Decent tutorial.

sk8ingisfun. Do you have your outputs routed to a drum synth?

  • Yes, my midi output in this video is routed to Sonar's internal drum synth. Watch 1:37 on this video and you'll see how I have it set up. There are many drum kits to choose from. If you want to output to an external device or software synth I believe you can go to OPTIONS > MIDI Devices to set that up.

  • Thanks, but my question was for the person who said they were not getting sound :)

  • on mine, i cant hear anything, but i turned the volume all the way up, any tips-please i need help

  • who cares theyre just tools, thats cool if it doesnt work for you but it doesnt make it terrible

  • Really appreciate the video. How do I record the midi drum track to an audio track? I have Delta 66 and have my outputs to channel 1&2. When I try to record the audio, my meters work, but no audio shows in the recording.

Hope to see more from you. I just became a member of your website. Recommend it to everyone!

    Larry

  • U have seen that he has created an audio template track (which the midi track output is pointing to that audio track) , right?

Well , right click that audio track and go to:

    Freeze -> Freeze Synth

This will create an audio track from ur midi

I hope that what u was asking for , message me if u run into trouble.

  • Its helpful... but Im looking for something different. Can you suggest a program where i could lay out each indivisual drum hit?

  • You can do that with Sonar. You import the track in and then devide devide out by parts. After that you can split each part into individual hits if you want too. Personally I just find it easier to use the 'piano roll' editor than going through all that though. Perhaps I'll make a tutorial on that sometime.

  • Well that would be much appreciated! Thanks!

  • hey great video man, the only thing i noticed is that you didnt show how to extract or save the midi files, cause for me it doesent work when i do , file , export, audio. when i save i dont hear the midi tracks. let me know if u know what im doing wrong thx man :)

  • Hey, My Sonar's export settings are: Category-Entire Mix, Channel Format-Stereo, Sample Rate-44100, Bit Depth-32, Dithering Triangular. What are yours?

    Rob

  • hey thx for the reply, i just checked and i have the same settings. do you save as mp3 or.. what file type. also i use vst instruments i dont know if that makes a diffrence there all midi tracks.

  • nvm i got it to work :) finally. i did something else . edit/bounce to tracks

  • Same problem but none of the above worked for me.

  • Never mind got it.

  • Hey Rob, Cool video. Thanks a lot for posting up the tips. I appreciated seeing them. Also, thanks for offering some free midi drum tracks for me to mess around with. I was wondering if you could do some more 'basics' videos. Even with Sonar. I am just starting out, and I need stuff like...

click this button here, and then click this, and then do that.

    Thanks again,

    Al
