Good thing Gai used his Gates for Kisame  coz if the battle turned into an endurance battle, Gai wouldn't have a chance against Kisame. Since Kisame possesses the greatest amount of chakra than all akatsukis.

Actually if that battle was endurance Gai would win, because he wasn't fighting the real Kisame he was fighting an Akatsuki spy that became Kisame through a jutsu and that jutsu only passes 1/3 of the chakra of the Akatsuki member to the receiver.

Right... i forgot that in this episode Gai was only fighting a clone technique of Kisame. It must be Itachi that wouldn't like Kisame to fight one on one... I heard that Kisame respects Itachi's decisions without argue.
