I am sure that, in a controlled environment, LSD can be as beneficial to a person as it is dangerous in a difficult setting. Although, believe me, when I took it everything went very very wrong! If you intend on taking this extremely powerful drug, please get a balance of both sides of the issue.

I'm glad booze is high. It just seems that the Most Dangerous Drugs List should consider the lethal dose and addiction of a substance, not that they did not do this through out the flick but when focusing on lsd I feel the approach may have changed slightly. Using stock outdated footage to create hysteria the same way it was done many years ago.
The ld50 or lethal dose is above 12,000 ug (micro grams) and compared to the threshold of around 20 ug that is a large gap. There are also reports of someone taking 40,000 and surviving. I do not recommend this (!!!!) but if you do the math it is a safe compound compared to the effective dose.
Also this drug is not addictive, and for that matter it has been used to treat alcoholism in some people, in the short time that it was legal. (The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience: The First Comprehensive Guide to the Effects of LSD on Human PersonalityMasters, R.E. and Houston, Jean).
Other psychedelics have also been used for substance abuse. Natives used peyote for alcoholism; ayahuasca has also been used by natives in South America for thousands of years. Another interesting drug, ibogaine has recently been used to help heroin addiction, which I personally had a family member that was successful in the treatment process.

This documentary lacks much in the way of mental health dangers. I.e: although the usage of Ecstasy in the short-term may have relatively short-term side-effects, in the long term may lead to neurosis in terms of depression, anxiety and other mental health related illnesses....?

Yes, exactly. There are so many users of cannabis, so naturally it can be thought of as a bigger social problem. But honestly, I don't necessarily see how this can be. I mean yeah if some young kids were doing it at frequent rates, and were failing school because of it, that maybe understandable. But they never really explain that. That's why they should explain their methodology more, especially what they mean by "social harm".
Well really, for it to be a scientific study they need quantitative criteria and studies to assess the drugs based on that quantitative criteria. If they did indeed do that, they should make that available, and if they didn't, then it's just their opinion.

Well, that's stretching the truth a little bit. It does deplete seratonin which can lead to addiction. I know some one who did extacy for about a month and they were in a horrible deppression for a couple of months.
Depletion of serotonin doesn't lead to addiction. Serotonin does stimulate the reward system in the brain, but not anywhere near as much as the hormone dopamine. Dopamine is released into the brain constantly when a person takes cocaine, which is why it is so addictive. Serotonin controls mood and emotions, and when serotonin is used up during an E high, it takes time to reach normal levels again, which causes the depression you speak of. All doing e for a month would do is fuck you up...
obviously you dont know your shit because lsd isnt addictive. if you try to binge you just run out of serotonin.
ive taken it many many times and my thinking isnt that much different than before. sure, i appreciate things a bit more for there beauty, but i have never experienced any negative side effects from it.
I'm the same way. I've done LSD about 10 times, give or take. I've never had a bad trip. I have had some very intense experiences but at that moment i had the presence of mind to not freak out, and just go along with my trip. I appreciate little things so much more now, like birds singing and the clouds. And for anyone whos wondering, I have done this and am still getting a 3.5 GPA in university.

I think its because GHB isn't used as much as LSD, which I suppose pulls toward a somewhat major flaw in this list. They put cannabis ahead in the list probably for the same reason. How more people using it necessitates harm is something they really should explain.

Yes, exactly. There are so many users of cannabis, so naturally it can be thought of as a bigger social problem. But honestly, I don't necessarily see how this can be. I mean yeah if some young kids were doing it at frequent rates, and were failing school because of it, that maybe understandable. But they never really explain that. That's why they should explain their methodology more, especially what they mean by "social harm".

Well really, for it to be a scientific study they need quantitative criteria and studies to assess the drugs based on that quantitative criteria. If they did indeed do that, they should make that available, and if they didn't, then it's just their opinion.

Well, that's stretching the truth a little bit. It does deplete seratonin which can lead to addiction. I know some one who did extacy for about a month and they were in a horrible deppression for a couple of months.

Depletion of serotonin doesn't lead to addiction. Serotonin does stimulate the reward system in the brain, but not anywhere near as much as the hormone dopamine. Dopamine is released into the brain constantly when a person takes cocaine, which is why it is so addictive. Serotonin controls mood and emotions, and when serotonin is used up during an E high, it takes time to reach normal levels again, which causes the depression you speak of. All doing e for a month would do is fuck you up...

I'm the same way. I've done LSD about 10 times, give or take. I've never had a bad trip. I have had some very intense experiences but at that moment i had the presence of mind to not freak out, and just go along with my trip. I appreciate little things so much more now, like birds singing and the clouds. And for anyone whos wondering, I have done this and am still getting a 3.5 GPA in university.
If anything, acid made me smarter, because it opened my mind up to so many things.

I've never heard anything about the germans giving LSD to their soldiers during the second world war. They did give their pilots stimulants to counter fatigue, but noone recieved psychoactives. That would just be silly.
