Troika means 'ride of the sleigh' or 'sleigh ride' so it does have some relevance to the English concept of Christmas, but in Russia you can sleigh-ride all year round, and it's a fantastic piece :D it's a shame the original film was lost...

Oh, wow. I love this! I first heard it on a stereo in a school assembly as a small boy and I loved it then too, but I bet all the other kids would have laughed if I'd told them I liked it. I kept it to myself. At least I was smart enough then to do that. Shows I had great taste even then!! It was playing just before we broke up for Christmas too, (I believed all that crap then), and it inspires a sense of wonder in me now. Classic fantastic!!

I like it too, but try it on sax. The cut time eighth notes are a total bitch to play, especially when you're trying to read each sharp in less than half a second :/ But I'd rather hear this in regular format instead of MIDI, MIDI software just gives it a kind of nasty feel.
