Greg Lake knew and understood great music when he infused this splendid composition into his wondrous Christmas song, "I Believe In Father Christmas." A Merry Christmas 2011 to the world!
i liked the video thats 7 min long better look up romance and troika and click the vid with a snowy place as a pic and its 7 min long... Its beaat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been searching for the chord progression for this and can't find anything other than sheet music I have to pay for. I don't want the sheet music, just the chord progression, because I'm transcribing it for guitar. Could someone help me?
@omgitsthecullens2 Keep in mind, we didn't do as many key changes as they did and we only repeated it twice, not three times. Btw, it's Ryan, the first chair sax.
Troika means 'ride of the sleigh' or 'sleigh ride' so it does have some relevance to the English concept of Christmas, but in Russia you can sleigh-ride all year round, and it's a fantastic piece :D it's a shame the original film was lost...
Oh, wow. I love this! I first heard it on a stereo in a school assembly as a small boy and I loved it then too, but I bet all the other kids would have laughed if I'd told them I liked it. I kept it to myself. At least I was smart enough then to do that. Shows I had great taste even then!! It was playing just before we broke up for Christmas too, (I believed all that crap then), and it inspires a sense of wonder in me now. Classic fantastic!!
Nice sounding version. Prokofiev's gift for melody was really astounding - Ltn Kije, Romeo & Juliet, Peter and the Wolf, the Classical Symphony, Cinderella etc etc
we sightread this at mpa, and it was so pretty i had to find it again. the director was like "this is sleigh ride music. literally, it's about riding a sleigh."
Man...I have the hard-ish part too... 2nd violin has DA DD DA DD DA DD DA DD DA DD DA DD DA DD DA DD DD DA DA DA DD DA DD DA DBb DC DC ----------------- real fast 4 times and 2 difficult Solis (solo for whole section) with 16th notes places around them.. buts its my favorite song my orchestra's playing this year.
i'm playing this on the oboe. MY teacher calls it crap, that has been toned down for a middle school band. I kinda agree. All we have is F B F B F B F B F B F B F B F. Cool tune, but easily played.
this sounds inredibly cheap... and to Gribbles87, how is this movement difficult? i would say it's one of the easier of troika's movements, that is to say, on the cello. regards.
I like it too, but try it on sax. The cut time eighth notes are a total bitch to play, especially when you're trying to read each sharp in less than half a second :/ But I'd rather hear this in regular format instead of MIDI, MIDI software just gives it a kind of nasty feel.
I don't even hear how this is troika...

Lieutenant Kije written by Greg Lake.
I'd almost swap my entire Bon Jovi collection for that song.

I've posted comments on the other front, too. So stuff from there might be heading this way.
I think I said "I would like to hear Rammstein do Prokofiev."

This song is part of a wonderful Christmas Carol called "I beleive in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake that was done in 1975!!!!
And it was also used in a film by Woody Allen called "Love & Death"
